I know that they are a thing, but I can't say I've listened to any of their stuff. I'll hop on YT and check 'em out.
By the way, whose album is up next, and what is it?

I believe we are to Belle and Sebastian. I think we lost Antonio...?

I've never heard of LCD Soundsystem, sorry. I just listened to Tonite, but I sort of hated it (sorry, Alex). Radiohead are another band that have been influenced by Talking Heads (the name 'radiohead' comes from the song of the same name by Talking Heads), so I did raise an eyebrow in interest at first, but I couldn't stand the synth bass throughout the song, and I didn't think much of Murphy's voice. I know, it's just one song, so if an LCD Soundsystem album comes up for a proper listen in this thread, I'll certainly give it due attention, but in the meantime... eh. Again... sorry. (Might be a good idea if we all don't feel the need to apologise if we don't like each other's taste in music!)

Next up is: Dear Catastrophe Waitress by Belle and Sebastian Playlist here: Let's try and listen to it and try to post our opinions in say, around one week from today? Can we also please get everyone's votes in for their next album of choice? I think we'll go with whatever Alex picks next, being as he's not had an album yet. Also, if anyone else is watching this thread, now is a good time to get involved! I'll give some thought over what album I'd like to recommend, and post it when I've decided.

I've started listening to Catastrophe Waitress, and have been giving some thought to my next album. After a good deal of flip-flopping, I think I'm gonna go with something completely different: Tool's 'Lateralus.'

Trust me, he won't be at all offended by someone not liking the same things he does, so no apologies are needed. We like some of the same stuff and other things we are on opposite ends about, lol. And some of the stuff he listens to is downright weird, lol. And like I said, I find it mildly enjoyable but I don't like synth, 80's sound and am not all that interested in Talking Heads. I also find it very repetitive. But he had a great time. Seeing him get to hear them play, was worth it.

I've been thinking about albums to add to the list and I've come up with a few. I also want to suggest a Manic Street Preachers album at some point, but I'm torn between three. So, I'm going to push that aside for now and instead my next pick is going to be: Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea by PJ Harvey. I'll add it to the list!

My thoughts on Belle and Sebastian's Dear Catastrophe Waitress.
I enjoyed this album. I was reminded of bands like Camera Obscura and Crosby Stills Nash & Young (especially the Young part). There were also times I was reminded of another of my favourite bands, The Smiths (which I'll get to in a moment), and perhaps some earlier Radiohead stuff, or The Beach Boys. So I thought this was a pleasant listen. I have had it on quite a lot this past week. It's good music to have on while I'm working at the computer, nice and calm music to have on in the evenings. My preferred tracks on the album are (in no order) Step into My Office Baby, If She Wants Me, Piazza New York Catcher - all tracks on the first half of the album.
I feel like the second half didn't keep my attention as much as the first, with the exception of the closer, Stay Loose. It's all pleasant, but a little samey. If I have any issues with the album it is that at times it feels a little too saccharine for my tastes. I think that may be the main reason the second half sort of fades a bit, it's just too much twee in one go. It's like "The Smiths Extra Light and Fluffy", when I would have preferred a little more weight and chunkiness. Less golden sunbeams, a few more clouds, if that makes sense. Having a hard time trying to put this into words. Being reminded of The Smiths was good in one way, but in another it just made me think I'd rather be listening to them.
All in all, it is going to stay in rotation here, although probably not often in whole chunks. A few songs in a larger playlist. I've found it goes really nicely onto my playlist with Travis/Embrace/The Connells/The Verve. Thanks for sharing, Annie!

Hey folks!
Dear Catastrophe Waitress is a solid outing; I'd give it a 3.5 (out of 5), which indicates an album I thoroughly enjoy but wouldn't quite call a favorite. Good stuff though.
And yeah, the LCD Soundsystem concert was amazing; they killed it. I would suggest Sound of Silver album-wise for anyone interested, but probably "North American Scum" song-wise if just trying out one song. I won't be nominating them though.
I've gone back and forth on my album nomination so many times, as there are way too many directions I feel I can go with it. Apologies for taking a while, lol. In the end, I decided we need some proper electronic up in this thread, so I picked a landmark/influential album that's also very dear to my heart:
Selected Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin

I enjoyed 'Dear Catastrophe Waitress.' I've heard of Belle and Sebastian, but hadn't really listened to their stuff before this. My overall impression is that if Wes Anderson made a love story about surfer bank robbers set in the 60s, this would be the soundtrack, and none of that is meant derisively.
For a variety of reasons, Lord Anthony is my favorite track, with the follow-up '... Caught in Love' being a close second.
This is definitely an album that would be reserved for my more introspective moods, I think, which isn't a bad thing. It's got some tracks that I'll be adding to some playlists, though.

Ok, I should share my thoughts on Dear Catastrophe Waitress so we can move on, lol. Alex actually introduced me to the album sometime in the last year I think. I tend to like music that has melodies and harmonies that go in unexpected directions, which I feel like these do. And I am a sucker for interesting harmonies. I would agree with the assessment that the first three or four songs are much stronger than the rest of the album, though I feel like there are some other really strong songs too, just not quite as strong as the opening. I find Asleep on a Sunbeam to be incredibly dull, not going to lie. I think Lord Anthony is heartbreaking frankly, and still so beautiful. If I listened to the album independent of lyrics it would seem too sweet to me I think, it's got a sixties pop-ish vibe. But again, juxtaposition of the actual content of the lyrics to the sound of the music really does it for me. I really need to give their other albums a good listen, but I haven't got that far yet. When I nominated this album it was still fairly new to me honestly, but it has become a solid go to album for me.

It's been a few days since I listened to it, and I still have bits and pieces of the songs stuck in my head. Couldn't tell you which ones, but there's definitely a hook or two in my brain now.
That puts Aphex Twin up next! Annie, start thinking of your next album, if you haven't already!

I'm going to start listening to Aphex Twin this week. Antonio, we need your next pick, if you're still following the thread I kept going back and forth over my next choice but decided, at last, to go with a Stereophonics album as my next pick in the end. Its hard to pick a band, yet alone a specific album, but I've got this one down and I'm sticking with it.

Hey guys, sorry, I lost the thread for a while! And I still need to post my thoughts on AMSP (although I did discuss it with Andrew). I've been busy these days, and I will be even more tomorrow. After that, things should get quieter for a bit, fortunately! Anyway, for the next album I will nominate... Wildflowers by Tom Petty I still can't get over the fact that he passed away recently
