I've heard a similar opinion from others, Annie, regarding Radiohead. My wife, for example, really appreciates the talent and how masterful they are musically, but can't connect with it. They don't sound quite like anyone else. I think that's alright, it isn't for everyone. I really liked reading what you thought of it.

Up next is Stop, Drop & Roll by Foxboro Hot Tubs. I'll post more in-depth thoughts later, but here's some quick notes:
As you may or may not know, the Foxboro Hot Tubs are a side project of Green Day. The story is that, while working on their follow-up to American Idiot (21st Century Breakdown), the guys got drunk one evening and Billie Joe asked if they wanted to record some random stuff. This album is the result.
Foxboro Hot Tubs is now the name Green Day uses to book not-so-secret house shows.

Hey all! Still alive, I promise.
I'll come up with an album to nominate soon. Going to listen to Foxboro Hot Tubs with Daisy later today. I'm not sure what to expect though, and I approach it hesitantly because my dislike of Green Day is well-known. I suspect I might like it marginally better than their GD material based on what I've read about it, but who knows.

Random thoughts on Radiohead. I don't love them as much as Andrew does, but they're a favorite of mine as well. I'd rank their albums as such:
1. Kid A 2. OK Computer 3. A Moon Shaped Pool 4. The Bends 5. The King of Limbs 6. Amnesiac 7. In Rainbows 8. Hail to the Thief
I try to pretend Pablo Honey doesn't exist. Not a good album in my mind, but could be worse I suppose.

Foxboro Hot Tubs was about what I predicted, I suppose. I react slightly more negatively to it than positively, but I still like it better than anything I've heard from Green Day. Unfortunately, I still don't like the vocalist and think the instrumentalists are boring, but the songs weren't really offensive or bothersome. I just thought the songs were pretty generic and indistinguishable, for the most part.
This is of course just my perspective, and no offense is meant in the slightest. I appreciate you all sharing these things even if my picky self doesn't take to it.

I've been a Green Day fan for the last 15 years and I've been on the internet, so this is not an unexpected reaction

I think my reaction was less negative than his. It was easy enough to listen to but I didn't connect to it particularly. I didn't dislike it or anything, but it didn't stand out. I would say it was a different experience than A Moon Shaped Pool though. In that case I felt like it was a really superb album, but I couldn't connect emotionally to it. In this case I felt like it was a fun listen, but not something that would stick with me. Also, don't take anything Alex says to heart. He's a prog rock snob. I'm mostly kidding.

I like a bit of everything but straight pop. My intention is to present an eclectic mix in this thread, now that it's actually a "thing." This suggestion was certainly more for fun than objective greatness.

Then you and Alex will probably get along fine. I did find it fun, so well chosen.

Hey, I may be a snob or an elitist, but only because that's how my tastes developed (not due to forcing myself to like anything I don't and vice versa), and I'm certainly not a prog rock snob, although there are a handful of prog bands still dear to my heart. Lol.

I honestly don't like when I dislike music, but some things just don't sit with these ears for whatever reason.

It's all good, I promise. I have my own streaks of snobbery, so I completely understand.

After hearing the album a few times, I think I'm pretty much in agreement with Annie and Alex. I didn't dislike it particularly, it just didn't stand out either. I should add in that this isn't a genre I often listen to, I have to be in a very specific mood and I haven't been in that mood while listening to this. I'm bookmarking it for when I do get into that mood, but yeah, it isn't bad, isn't great, it sits in the middle.

So we went to see LCD Soundsystem last night. Anyone here a fan? First let me say that I don't listen to their stuff much, but I find them mildly enjoyable. This is saying a lot since synth stuff doesn't generally appeal to me and since I feel utterly ambivalent towards Talking Heads, and they have clearly been influenced by Talking Heads. The show was pretty great, I can't deny that. The opener sucked in a major way though. But the worst thing was the weather. We sat in rain for three hours in 50F with no ponchos and just a tiny umbrella. I can't remember the last time i was that cold and I resembled a drowned rat by the end. I went to this because Alex loves LCD Soundsystem. He owes me. It was a good show though, they are pretty solid.
