< Addendum: personal log.
The transfer was uneventful, if slightly delayed. The vessel isn't laid out exactly as Galaxy-class schematics would indicate, as it's been 'up-rated'; I need to familiarize myself with the specifics of this ship. [sigh] Additionally... I'll also need to become accustomed to sharing a room with persons other than Cadet Stiles. Some of the other cadets on board, with whom I'll be bunking, have already proven... enthusiastic to a possibly excessive degree. I hope they'll be willing to discuss and respect—terms of engagement, as it were; I know that some may see me as an oddity, and I don't want to encounter the interrogation—no, that's a presumptive term. Lieutenant Derix has demonstrated a willingness to answer questions; it's an interview, if anything. That is his choice—I only hope that I'm not assumed to have the same willingness. Still, I'll attempt to believe the best of everyone here and their intentions. After all, isn't that what Starfleet is about?
I have yet to encounter many members of the crew, including most of the senior staff. While I don't expect the captain to be personally concerned with a handful of cadets, the Science department will be... rather relevant to my time here—I'll report to the department head tomorrow, but I should see about off-duty connections as well. [laugh] I hope none of them expect someone with an abundance of experience in this dimension, because they'll be disappointed. Or, indeed, with anything that can be seen with the naked eye. Oh... elements. I really hope none of them find my freshman op-eds... [pained laugh] I'll have to direct them to my more polished articles.
In any case. It could be... pleasant, to meet officers with experience outside of an academic setting? >
