Stardate 12004.18
Since becoming the Chief Engineer here, I've been taking the time to familiarize myself with a vessel of this size. A Galaxy-class vessel, one of the largest ships in the fleet, and by gods, the large maintenance list I've ever seen. It's one thing to build a big ship, but with as many systems as the Tempest has, it's a wonder the Engineering Staff can keep her together. The preventive maintenance on the saucer separation equipment alone is enough to take a team of technicians a full shift, and that's every week! I'm drafting a request for more personnel because the scheduling is a nightmare. And then the personnel inconveniences. There are so many people on this damned ship that it doesn't matter what shift we're on, someone's working and I can't do maintenance on that system. I tell you, there's so much maintenance overdue in red that if I was on any other ship, I'd have my chief's asses for this.. here, it's just a fact of life. One I intend to fix. All too tired of 'shut up and push'.
In other news, I haven't really been anywhere but Main Engineering and the Bridge since I got here. I should make it a habit to get out.. meet my fellow department heads. Yes, that'll be on the list too. But first...
"Get back to work!"
