Hey everyone,
Matt (Corky) had a great suggestion about making an introduction thread. I hadn't thought of it primarily because most of us already know each other, but that's not true for everyone, and we'll be looking to add more players at some point, so here we are!
I'm C. J., and I've been playing since 2006 or so, which makes me old to some and young to others, but I'm used to being the middle child. I am part of the small army of Star Trek fans who feel that Deep Space Nine was the superior series, and I think it shows in the missions I run as they tend to feature a fair amount of moral ambiguity and also insanity.
The Sisko is my favorite character, the Jem'Hadar are my favorite alien species, and my favorite ship class is a toss-up between the Defiant and Akira; the former due to it being so incongruous to the ideals of the Federation that it essentially embodies desperation, and the latter because it looks like a space katamaran and can launch fifteen torpedoes at once.
Pew pew!

Hello All,
I'm Daniel and I play Oliver Savage on the Tempest.
I've been tooling around the simming world for a long time. I started back in 1997 on AoHELL in Spacefleet Academy, back then I went by a lot of other names. But some form of "Vidiot" My first Screen name was given to me by my Dad it was VidiotGOD, it was a joke my dad had for me. Stood for his loving and affectionate "Video Game Idiot God" LOL Well it stuck and I stayed a Vidiot forever. My first simming name was CptVidiot. My first role was as a helmsman on board a ship called the USS Longhorn which was in the OSG if I recall under my then tutor WildWheel1. Did that for a time and eventually became an engineer on another vessel in the same group but I canna remember the ship name. I took to running nightly sims in Spacefleet after all the normal SFOL peeps left and the same people started showing up time and time again. Eventually it became a thing when WildWheel (Travis) came to me and said your good at this you should start your own ship. Wait. You already have sorta. So he was kind of my kick in the tail to start something. I got together with those people that kept coming and though Originally she was going to be the USS Renegade she became the USS Dark Angel, and Akira class that was beat to hell every chance someone got but she brought us home. We simmed nightly for 1-4 hours for a long time. About a year and a half. Brought us really close together. We got approached by a friend who joined the group from another to toss in our chit to the Tournament of Sims which was then hosted by the "Simming League". We played in that event and killed it. It was great. Then came the offer to join a large group. We merged several months later with a Group called "Trek Online" or TOL. I continued in my role as Captain of the Dark Angel and eventually became president of TOL for a few years, ran several other activities and helped in a bunch as well. Then I had a child. Got promoted at my job and had to step down and slow it down. Unfortunately the club went downhill, and no matter what I did to help it kept dying. It was devastating, at one point during my administration we had close to a thousand people on the roster, but it was all crushed. If you look up Charles Hammers Simming History he toutes me as the Killer of TOL. LOL I had enough and took my ship back independent and a lot followed me, so in a way I did spell the end of TOL. Not proud of it, but it happened. But a lot of people had a hand in that. The RFSG (Rogue Fleet Sim Group) was born from that and had a short life. I eventually retired as Captain of the Dark Angel after 5 years running. Tried to bring her back to life and had close to another year of sim time then things died out again and once again she slipped back into retirement, likely for the last time. I was involved in Groups like ECF-Exporitory Crews of the Federation, and played bit parts in sims in the FSF-Federation Sim Fleet for a time. Eventually I retired all together from the simming aside from some Bulletin board things with friends (So semi-retired i guess...LOL). I could honestly go on for a long time about my simming background as there is a lot. I have a list somewhere of all the activities and sim's I participated in, but eh.
Then I got a query from SpaceDaisy (Elianna Kestran) about starting up another sim. And so here we are again, back in the thick of it. LOL So I blame her for all this!
My favorite character honestly was Trip Tucker. A lot of people didn't care much for Enterprise but he was one of my favorites. I was crushed during the season ending when they cancelled the show.
Because of my time serving aboard an Akira Class, developing that ship from the ground up and all the time we played aboard it has to be my favorite hands down honestly. That ship was designed to fight, and so versatile. So this ship class has a special place in my heart.
Deep Space Nine is still my Favorite Series. I actually didn't like it too terribly much when it first aired but boy did it grow on me. Running a Sim parallel to it helped. There was such great Character development. It was awesome.

Hey guys, We're the new kids around here so I'll join Dan in introducing myself. I'm Spacedaisy, aka Annie, aka Elianna Kestran. I started simming back in July of 2001. I was watching some Voyager cruising the internet, bored senseless and happened upon TOL. I applied to join the Dark Angel and met Dan and his crew. I quickly became CMO with the Dark Angel and then I was asked to start my own ship, the USS Sotrilla. I mentioned it elsewhere, it was an Olympic class medical ship. At the time that everything went to crap in TOL, the Sotrilla, the Dark Angel and the Tailchaser were really the only stable sims running there. I was faced with a decision similar to what you all just faced yourselves. And it was a no brainer for me to follow Dan out of the club. We simmed for a while as RFSG but life got the best of all of us and it died off. I still did a lot of board simming and writing with some close friends over the years. I even currently still run a Firefly themed board sim called Jenny Wren actually.
So I simmed off and on since then in various ways. Then I became involved in online mafia/werewolf games and it took a lot more of my attention. My then boyfriend, now husband came to me with the idea of starting a new site, specifically for a Mafia community. So we did and it has been a pretty tremendous success. Last year we were discussing ways to grow the bond of community and friendship within our member base and I threw out the idea of starting a sim because I remembered how many friendships were forged over simming on the DA and Sotrilla, among others. I talked to Dan, we got the ball rolling and it has been a ton of fun ever since. We decided to join up with you fine folks because we knew our Star Trek base was limited so we wanted to connect with other players in the simming community and be part of something bigger. So now we have our roots in mafia and are growing into the larger simming community. It's the best of both worlds.
I grew up on TNG so I would say it is my favorite, mainly for the nostalgia factor. That said, I think the most interesting characters were in Deep Space 9, but I preferred the story lines of Voyager. And I think honestly, my favorite Star Trek character is now The Doctor. In my younger days I would have probably said Tasha Yar, but tastes change as you grow older. And really I'm almost always drawn to the doctor characters, which is why I went for medical when I started simming. Ironic actually, because there isn't anything medical about me in real life. But Bones was my favorite in TOS, Crusher in TNG, Bashir was not my favorite but I really enjoyed him, and of course I already said how I feel about The Doctor. So yeah... I think that about covers it.
I pretty much just love the storytelling aspect of simming, whether live chat format or bb format or whatever. It's always been a creative outlet for me, so I am very happy to be back to it regularly.

Hi folks,
I'm Gunther, 36, I live in Belgium (the Flemish/Dutch speaking northern part) in a little town named Schelle, just south of the city of Antwerp. I also run a vegetarian food blog (veguru.be) and I am an avid photographer.
I started playing text based roleplay in september 2000. Enrolled in ST:ACTD as a Counselor on board the Ambassador class USS Orion with my then new, 500 year old El-Aurian caracter Cix Jordaïn. The real time text based format really wroekd for me, and has helped me develop my use of the English language, as a non-native speaker. Some time later, the USS Orion got blown up, its crew transferred to a new Akira class ship, the USS Tal-War. At that time, I also played/npc'ed a Dark Vulcan-Trill character, WkteH Prasosh, on the USS Cherokee, the most intensely hectic gaming experience I've seen. Full crew of fourteen players and six or so NPC's, playing 3-4am on saturdays, often after going out with my mates. utter madness... I was also doing a French Engineer on the Scimitar for a brief stint, and some mission-dependent NPC'ing on the Sharikahr, and on the Andromeda, and on the Seleya, once or twice... Some time later, Jordaïn switched uniform, to become the Tal-War's Chief of Tactical, and on to the ship's Captain not much later. Then, after less than three years of playing in ACTD, I was over-promoted to become the ship's Manager. I say over-promoted, because I was not experienced enough to deal with that sort of responsibility yet. I quit the game mere months later.
In-character, Jordaïn had become an admiral, linked with Stafleet Intelligence. I did pop up to play him a few times, attending a few special celebration missions and jubilees, on the Seleya for example, in the years after.
Aoibhe kept trying to tempt me into rejoining from time to time, but I didn't feel ACTD to be as open and "realistic" as I'd have liked, so I stayed out. Then, ST:E got launched, where I did go and watch a few missions. It wasn't until around the death of Keshir Suder that I seriously began considering joining up. Then, after lots of chatting with Aoibhe, I hatched the idea of having my original character of Cix Jordaïn, in my mind an ex-Section-31-Admiral-on-the-AWOL-path by then, to get in under deep cover. Thus, the facade character Andrew Harlan was born and I joined the Bremen. Some twenty months later, all of that played out in mission, involving Jordaïn's blind determination to have a certain planet called Twissel returned to the Prime universe environment, out from a tight spot caused by S31. You might have picked up some rumours about that, as referenced by CJ's great log for Sarah Sumner in the "State of the Federation" thread. Anyway, he's off to chase some Portuguese tail now, way out south beyond Pacifica.
After he left, I began playing my current character, the Aldebaran born human hot shot pilot/racer dude Marcus Trevanion. A dominion war veteran, he landed a cushy job at Starfleet flight school, until he headbutted his commanding Admiral and nearly got his butt kicked out of the fleet. He had to accept a demotion from LtCmrd back to Ensign, and hand in his wings, in order to be allowed to get a position as Tactical officer on the Bremen. He's been running around, smiling at the ladies and lacking respect for superiors ever since.
For me, getting back into play after many years was really a great thing. I rediscovered my love of writing sci-fi, and felt uninhibited by strict log writing rules and censorship as had been the case with ACTD. The grittier and deeper atmosphere in ST:E and on the Bremen really suited my personal style and preference, and the chance Aoibhe had given me in running that whole undercover thing, with a decisive mission arc to boot, made me feel thankful and proud to behaving fun, along with playing together with such great people and characters. My thursday nights have been reserved for play, and the people in my environment know it. So, yeah, I'm extremely happy with this STAB effort here, and with CJ's work.
I'd be bringing Trevanion over to this iteration of the game, although I can't guarantee Jordaïn is going to be able to stay away, once he learns about what the wake of the Twissel case has set in motion... ;-)

Greetings! My name's Matthew (Matty to my friends although I'm happy to be called 'Corky' ) and I'm from Brisbane, Australia. I've only started this whole 'simming' thing last December with my colleagues on the Tempest. I was invited to try it out and found I enjoyed it immensely and just keep coming back. I chose the Chief Science Officer role on the Tempest for two reasons. Firstly, although I consider myself to be creative and I enjoy interacting with people,I appreciate the discipline and structure that a Science Department role offers. Secondly, I consider myself a 'ducky trekkie' - one that loves Star Trek, and floats along on top of the lake only occasionally sticking my head under to get immersed in it in any depth, I own the entire DVD box set of the original series. I couldn't take to TNG but I love Voyager. I've not seen DS9 or 'Enterprise' despite my brother banging on and on about it. I figure a Science role is a great opportunity to get involved in these sims from a more limited or specific perspective. For all of you, Corky is a great guy, intensely loyal and level headed. He has the potential to let his emotions get the better of him but struggles to keep them in check. He tries to be very professional in his Chief Science Officer role aboard the Tempest and comes off as a little highly strung. He loves being a part of the Tempest crew and understands that being part of a crew on a Starship is like being part of any family - you can't pick them but each of them brings something unique that makes you a better person in the long run - even if that means challenging you from time to time.

Hola.
I'm Rob Wright. I've been playing the previous versions of this game since around 2002 and I'm really looking forward to this games launch. I started way back in the day with a Bajoran character Named A'an Selzah and started out on a Sovereign class ship, U.S.S. Seleya. That's where I met a lot of the players here, and eventually carried that over when I took command of the Intrepid Class ship U.S.S. Kraken. We had a blast, though in hind sight I feel I played A'an too rigid during that time and I'm pretty happy I retired him. More recently I played a character named Elijah Stark, OPS officer on the Hyperion, and again had a great time watching that character grow with the other players on the ship. I personally love doing long detailed logs, though recently I've not had the time or creative flow to do that. Hopefully that will change going forward.
As for influences, I also gravitate more to DS9, though I'll always have a soft spot for TOS. I grew up watching it in reruns with my dad, and Kirk will forever be the man to me. As for ships, I have a fondness for the Intrepid and Galaxy classes, but my favorite has to be the Sovereign. It's the cutting edge for the Federation, and I find the design to be a nice departure from the norm. Doesn't hurt that I'm a big fan of John Eaves, the man who designed it.
As for characters, I'd have to divide them up by series. Sulu for TOS, he was just enigmatic and cool. TNG it was Riker, the fist to Picards open hand. DS9 had my two favorite characters ever, Kira and Sisko. Voyager....well, I wasn't the biggest fan of voyager, but I liked Harry Kim. The early version of him was part of the inspiration for Stark. While I disliked Enterprise, I did find I liked a few of the characters. Malcolm Reed was interesting and I have to admit to liking Dr. Phlox. As for the new movies, well, its hit and miss for me. I dislike most of the design elements but I do like the casting, especially Zachary Quinto as Spock and Karl Urban as Bones. The last movie felt a little more Trek-like, though the story was weak and they completely wasted Idris Elba as the villain Krall.
I'm not sure what I'll be playing this game. I have a few old characters that were shelved that might be fun to pick back up, or something completely different could be interesting as well. I guess it'll depend on what the settings going to be and what I think will fit in best. Whatever the case, we've got a great group of people working on this game and I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Fun Fact: My first character, Henry Sumner, earned his second court martial while serving under A'an on the Kraken (pulled a phaser on him). He's semi-retired now. ETA: Also he hooked up with A'an's ex.

Hello, Meg here, living in the back of beyond up on the most northerly coast of the British mainland. I've been a ST simmer since the mid 90's when a friend at high school introduced me to UCIP. I've had a load of years out and have been a table-top RPer in the interim. I've tried other places but this is the most relaxed and friendly I have found. Not that I didn't enjoy an Academy experience, actually I think it can help people learn where to find the information needed for successful simming, but some places take it far too far!

Yes...yessssss...add to my growing list of People Who Liked Enterprise... Come to me! I'll mention Ent frequently, and drive A up the wall. It's a fun time starting to capslock the theme in OOC chat while she screams in rage.
Sup, I'm Shawna. (Yes, you say, we see your screenname.) East coast US resident, 20-something who doesn't have her life together (and remains unconvinced that such a thing is possible). STE was my first Trek-specific game in the sim-sense, though I've been roleplaying for uhhhhh call it about 15 years, from the likes of Neopets and Gaia, to forums like this, to livejournal and dreamwidth, and in recent years have finally started tabletopping. Fun fact: on and off but mostly on, I've been RPing Malcolm Reed for ten years. He's my forever muse, apparently. STE was really my first honest foray into RPing any original characters, and I'm truly amazed that it's gone off so well.
I joined the Bremen with my Aenar/Andorian science cutiepie Raqiin sh'Hruvek, who will absolutely be coming back. She's been a blast to write, pretty upbeat on the outside with attempts at being the optimistic one, but despite her base understanding of psychology, she's bad at dealing with the pain she internalizes. She, Sara, Tony, and Henry were all instrumental in leaking the word out about Twissel, the thing that kickstarted this whole... ::motions to the Lore:: THING. It's, in fact, her report that got distributed, reproduced to the best of her ability.
I also joined Sentinel with Vikram Baudin, an ex-31 agent with a traumatic past looking to start fresh. I admit I never was quite so interested in him as Raqiin, and I wasn't the best at the XO position with him. Very stoic, very serious, germaphobic, and willing to look a situation in the face and decide the answer is to kill. He did have some good banter and lightened up sometimes, and then he got dragged back into 31, unbeknownst to anyone else. In light of the lore and the evolution of the quadrant, I might actually wrangle him back into the fold to see where he stands in the wake of all of this. Depending where he lands, he might be an NPC, but we'll see.
I also sometimes get deeply into STO, and then stop playing it for a year, so if you ever see Raqiin running around you instance, say hi. (I'm on the off cycle after Q's Winter Wonderland, so it might be a good while before I play again.)

Hello all.
I'm Andrew. I've been in role playing since '97 or '98 when I was 12 or 13. I started in ACTD, and had multiple characters. Over time, I also served as XO and CO of a ship, and then I was GD for a number of years. I also helped behind the scenes with the transcript archive and a few other things. Long story short, I got tired of some of the crap I had to endure as a staff member there as well as the general attitude towards the game by those in charge, and decided I would create my very own role playing game. Hence, Star Trek Engage! I asked Aoibhe and James to help, and as a team we got STE off the ground. But, as you know by now, there were issues relating to how James treated Aoibhe and I. Eventually, I felt forced out of my very own creation and I stepped away. I rejoined now and then as a player, but as you can imagine, it never quite felt the same after that.
And here we are now in ST:AB, and I'll be helping CJ and Aoibhe run this game, as well as being a GD for one of the ships. I'm really excited about it, and finally getting to do what was in mind when STE got started.
As for favourite Trek, my favourite is DS9 by a long way...
