Mission 82 – “Operation Seleyan Sun” - Part 13Sim Date: 11808.03 OOC & Pre Sim Information: I hope everyone had a fantastic break, some great writing from most. I would still encourage any of you that did not do any writing or logging during the break to try and get something in that kind of gives an idea of what your character did over the course of the month we were not active in Sim as about the same amount of time has elapsed as I understand it. Time to get back into the swing of things, I hope your as excited as I am for the coming events. So much has happened between our own experiences and the rest of the Federation and Starfleet. Couple of things I need to let you know about, while I will be here this Saturday there is a chance I may miss the 11th, I’m supposed to be going to the RenFair in Bonnie Lake, Wa that weekend and its up in the air when we might make it home. I will not be in attendance on September 1st as I will be attending a 40 Hour Airsoft Military Simulation down in Centerville, WA and will be in the field playing a Russian Militant trying to take out Nato. LOL It should prove to be fun. I’ve been training for this since about the end of May and its time to see how that has paid off. So, I will not be here that weekend. Just a heads up. I may have some pictures to share after. Can’t afford a Go-Pro yet, but sometime in the future you can see me dying lots. LOL Stardate: 11807.02 Location: Starbase Odyssey, Office of Oliver Savage. Oliver walked back into his office, bringing the lights back up. His eyes wore the signs of a sleepless night, he had tossed and turned most of the night unable to get out of his own headspace. The conversation he had had the prior afternoon with Sully had not gone well but went about how he expected. In some ways he was glad that Sully said the things he did, otherwise he wouldn’t potentially be getting the help he was getting, or hopefully getting. It certainly had not sat well with him, that much was clear. It was never easy having to discipline someone you care about. ‘Care about’ Oliver’s inner voice echoed. He stopped at the Replicator. “Raktajino, double sweet!” he said and waited for the mug of dark sweet liquid to appear. Oliver settled in behind his desk looking at the seemingly never-ending pile of padd’s on his desk. “Damn…” he muttered realizing the pile had increased in size. He took a long drink from his mug before discarding it out of the way. “Computer begin duty log!” he said and waited for the computer to access the file and indicate it had started the recording. “Captains log, Stardate 11807.02.” he paused trying to find the words. “Last night I had a candid discussion with my first officer Sully Derringer regarding the actions taken at the Planet Valt during our recent reconnaissance mission. Needless to say it went about how I expected. I fear that he may have already moved past a line in the sand that I had hoped he wouldn’t. What do you do when your presented with such a thing, a man who you believed to have a good moral compass looses magnetic north.” He sighed leaning back in his chair. “Sully’s lost his way, that much is clear. Or maybe he just found the right path for himself and I was completely wrong about his character.” Oliver sat in silence letting those words hang over himself for a long moment. “I’ve relieved my friend from duty, not just because he did what he did, but because I feel like he’s lost and needs help finding his way again. I understand his frustrations, but they are taking him a direction that we cannot follow, should he choose to go that route I fear what it might mean.” He shifted uneasy in his chair. “Sully will have to get a clean bill of health from his councilor before he will be allowed back on duty, and if he cannot it may mean the end of his career.” The words came slower for him realizing how finite those words might be. “I have the confidence that our chat might make him angry enough to just hang on, and maybe, just maybe him going to the councilor just to spite me might lead him back to the right path. What that does to us, I don’t know. But what I do know is something has to change, or we may not be able to work together any further.” “I don’t want that, it’s the furthers thing from what I want. But its kind of in Sully’s hands now.” Oliver opened his mouth to say something more, but his emotions swelled up as he realized that this might not be something they recover from, he took a moment to compose himself. “End Log.” He said plucking a Padd from his desk, he breathed a sigh as he started reading over another intelligence report. Stardate: 11808.03 Location: Starbase Odyssey, Office of Oliver Savage Oliver sat at his chair behind his desk starting across the room, he seemed lost in his own thoughts. It had been days since he had sat down with Sully to discuss what would come next, and the conversation had gone about as well as he had figured it might given the tension between the two. He had high hopes that Sully would get help and they could move on, and hopefully get past this but part of him knew there was a chance that it may already be too late. “Computer begin Duty log!” he said, glancing at the Chronometer on the wall. It was almost quitting time for the day which was a relief. He had managed to get mostly caught up with his paperwork. Soon he would have to pay a visit to the Tempest to inspect repairs done on the ships Quantum Slipstream Drive since they had to burn it to get home after Valt. Oliver heard the computer joyful tweet letting him know the file had been accessed and started. “Captian’s duty log, Stardate 11808.03, I’ve finally managed to get caught up on my paperwork, this last month has been nice and quiet which has been great for moral for most, and good for getting caught up on work.” He swiveled in his chair and moved to the replicator punching in his usual selection. “Engineering reported about an hour ago that the last major repairs to the Tempest were completed and they were starting work on some minor things, and last-minute equipment upgrades. We just must wait for them to rearm her and we’ll be good to go. I’m looking forward to a chance to get out there again. If you had asked me a few years ago if I ever pictured myself on this side of so much red tape I would have told you to take a walk.” He settled back into his chair taking a drink, he shook his head as Sully past through his thoughts. “I’ve still not heard anything back yet about Sully, he’s still off duty until I get a release from his councilor, so we’ll see what that culminates into. I honestly hope he gets the help he so desperately needs. I stand by my initial assessment of him, he’s a good officer and will continue to grow into one if he does not continue down this reckless path. I’m hoping to hear back on this soon. I hate that we have come to this point, but it had to be done.” He sat suddenly found himself reflecting on Sully’s words again, it was something that kept going through his mind, over and over. While Sully did have some points Oliver still knew he had done the right things, the only thing that still did not sit well in his mind and continued to torment him was that he had left Noemi behind on Valt and they had not heard much as of yet. But often that was good. “I’m also hopeful that we will hear something about Valt and Idaris, Starfleet has been pretty tight lipped thus far and I wont lie and say that I’m not worried, it was a huge risk to leave her behind, but we needed to do something. Sully was right about that, maybe just a little bull headed about it. It’s my hope we get to go back there with the fleet if and when they decide to go back but I respect Admiral Walker and his methods so if we don’t, it will be understandable.” He shrugged and took a quick drink. “No orders as of yet, but I suspect they will be in before too much longer. But then again that’s the life of a Station Administrator, right?” his brow furrowed as if he was even unsure of the answer to that question. “I’m going to pay the Tempest a Visit at the start of my shift tomorrow to see how things are coming together. End log!” he said standing and heading for the door leaving behind his mug. USS Tempest StatusAlert Status: Green – Docked at Odyssey Starbase Odyssey StatusAlert Status: Green

Will depend on what time I get home from the Renaissance Faire. Stardate: 11804.08 Location: Holodeck 2 About 2 hours till arrival at Valt… Knowing they had several hours before they would arrive back at Valt and given the conditions on the bridge, Oliver had to walk away from the bridge. Between Sully’s continued passive aggressive comments, and Johnny doing his usual stuff it was making an already tense situation much worse. He needed a moment to clear his head. He was struggling enough with several things on his mind. He stood on a wooden bridge overlooking a river that was lazily moving by, the soft sound of the rushing water helped sooth his mind. He glanced up and let the soft breeze wash over him, the Cumulus clouds floating by above, and the sunshine on his face. He knew it was simulated, but it still made him feel a bit better. “Your back here again?” A familiar voice asked, as a pair of boots began to fall on the bridge with the newcomer’s approach. “Didn’t think you’d come back after your last visit.” Oliver glanced over and nodded. “Needed a minute.” The old man nodded, his bushy beard rubbing against his chest as he stared down at the water below. “But why here? There are plenty of other similar programs with similar terrain.” “This is weird.” Oliver said glancing over once again. “I didn’t think I would come back, but I didn’t know where else to go right now. I am stuck. And seeing you, thinking about what you would have done if you were in my shoes.” He shrugged glancing down river again. “I was hoping seeing you would help me find my way, because I’m lost again. Each time I think I’ve found my way I end up back here.” “Weird?” the older man asked, curiosity in his voice. He ran his fingers across his beard. “Interesting response.” “Yeah.” Oliver said absentmindedly. “Why weird?” he asked giving Oliver a quizzical look. “Because your dead.” He said flatly. “And this…” he gestured with his chin. “It’s odd this was even here.” “You know I was nearly eighty when I made this right? I knew that my time was eventually going to come. It seemed a logical thing to do at the time. I have been in Starfleet for a long time, and a Captain for most of it. I figured at some point putting my knowledge and advice some place might help someone much like yourself.” Oliver nodded his head in quiet understanding. “So you’re here…” his old mentor said as he settled down onto the bridge taking his boots off. “What’s on your mind Ollie?” Oliver took a moment to consider his words. “I’m in a bit of a pickle.” “Clearly.” The old man said dropping his feet in the water below the bridge. “Otherwise I doubt you would be here.” Oliver glanced down, and laughed. “Yeah you’re just like him.” “That was the point, so get on with it already. I’m sure you don’t have a ton of time, and if you do maybe you need to re-evaluate your schedule.” The holographic Captain Phillips said. “Okay, where do I even begin, I’ve got an estranged first officer who hates me because I’ve tried to help him by forcing him to get help for a problem he cannot even see that he has. He made decisions while in Command that lead to the death of civilians, and then tried to punish those who murdered them by committing murder himself.” He shrugged, taking his boots off as well and dropping down beside his former Captain. “He tried to bluff a surrender of a planet occupied by millions of troops, and was pretty cocky about it. The result was executions calling his bluff. A fleet was sent to essentially run us off. We could have done more before we had to leave but it again forced our hand. All because he had to fire off at the mouth.” “What did you do about it?” “Nothing at first, I can’t blame him for wanting to do what he did. And while I wouldn’t necessarily admit this to him I was probably wrong for dropping that torpedo on the guy who did the deed. It was justifiable by the book, but it was a risky move on my part. It could and may have led to more casualties, but I couldn’t just let it stand and they were combatants so I had no qualms about dropping that torpedo on them.” He shrugged. “And then when I had reflected on it, and was prepared to not only take whatever punishment I might have been given by my own boss for my actions and Sully’s…” Oliver blinked, and sighed. “Nothing.” “Nothing?” “Yeah I was surprised.” Oliver said picking up small stones on the bridge and tossing them into the water. “I even admitted to fraternizing, and nothing.” “Really? I would have ripped you a new one on that alone. You know better Oliver.” “I know, but it couldn’t be helped. It kind of just happened.” Oliver said. His Captain nodded. “Okay, well I wouldn’t count out something coming back on this just yet. You never know with Command, they have a tendency to mull things over while looking at the deeper picture and then come a calling.” Oliver nodded. “It’s still in the back of my mind. I am honestly still getting my footing. I wasn’t ready for this Captain.” “Balderdash,” he said now turning toward him pointing a finger. “You were ready, you have everything you need up in that brain pan of yours son your problem is confidence.” “Confidence?” Oliver asked, blinking as he stared at the sudden outburst. “Yeah, you constantly doubt yourself and second guess what you’re doing. I Know I watched you do it and I tried to guide you away from that.” Oliver’s face wore the look of confusion. “How would you know that?” Captain Phillips tapped on his head. “I spent a lot of time making this program, not just for everyone Oliver. I put a lot of information in here because one day you would need a voice of reason and someone who was not going to sugar coat crap for you. I was a no nonsense leader, you know that. I also knew you would not be that way when you got your own command. You would try and find your own way and well here we are.” Oliver frowned and looked back out over the water. “Well your right, I did try it my way and its put me in a terrible spot.” “So it’s time to get back to reality and evaluate what you’re doing and make it right. What do you need to fix?” Oliver let that sink in for a moment and thought about it. “It’s time I put my foot down and stopped some of this…” he stopped unsure of what to call it. “I am all for friendly banter but the blatant disrespect, and negative chatter its only proving to be a growing toxin that’s slowly poisoning us as a team. It’s time I put my foot down and interjected and stop hoping they will find their way on their own.” “See, was that so hard?” “No.” Oliver said. “What are you going to do about your first officer?” “I don’t know, that’s a bit harder.” Oliver shrugged. Captain Phillips stared at him for a long moment. “What did you do in response to that situation?” “Mandatory Counseling, and relived him of duty.” “Why Counseling?” “Because there is something wrong that goes beyond Valt. He is holding onto some things that he needs to work out because it is effecting his judgement. I’m not the only one who sees it.” “Do you think that was justified?” “Yes,” Oliver said. “It wasn’t meant as a punishment because of Valt, but as a result of his overall Behavior, this has been ongoing since we got here in this time. I do not think he has ever really resolved his issues from our time travel event if you can call it that. Most everyone else has, well maybe not Johnny. But that’s another subject for another time.” “Did you explain this to him?” Oliver shrugged. “I tried, but the conversation was entirely focused on Valt. He threw everything he could back in my face. It as a candid conversation, so I honestly expected as much. I was trying to see just how bad it was and his actions, his words, just told me that this was the right course of action at the time. So, no I guess I really did not. But he was so intent on blaming me, and trying to sidestep any punishment that might come down.” “You know I remember how bullheaded you were when you came on board. You were so intent on trying to find ways around some of my orders, and do not think I did not know. You are not too far removed from your own First officer. It is kind of Ironic really. Maybe not nearly as bad and with less baggage, but you were a pain in my backside for the first year you were aboard, and it took me letting you fall on your face to get it right, but when I knew I could not wait for you are to fall on your face I came down on you hard. I didn’t let you get away with anything that I didn’t want you too.” He paused a moment. “You really want my advice?” “I don’t think I would still be here if I didn’t.” Oliver said. Captain Phillips slowly got to his feet. “Go tell him how you feel, be honest. Admit to him your own faults, communication is key. If he is ever going to trust you and you him, you are going to have to build a relationship. Your crew depends on it. You stay divided then you might as well turn in your own pips or get him off your ship. There has to be discipline and unification in your command crew or it might just fall apart in the worst possible way. You keep dancing around hoping they will work it out and it is going to bite you in the ass. Stop hoping that your people are going to do what you need them to do, make them in a way that works for you and your team. But if you keep this up you’re going to get more attention from fleet than you want. They are only so patient, even with new Captain’s.” he slipped his boots back on, and brushed off his pants. “If you are honest with your first officer and he still continues on his course, yours is clear. He’s still on board, and seeing the councilor?” Oliver nodded. “Then he clearly doesn’t want to leave, even if it’s to spite you.” “That much is clear.” “But he is still there, and that’s important. Talk to him, and I mean really talk to him Oliver.” “You never did!” Oliver said quickly, and it was rather pointed. “Nope, but I’m not you Oliver. You mean well and communicate well when it matters but when it is your family, you are terrible. You spend too much energy on trying to hide how you feel from them. And don’t think for one minute that these people you work with are not your family. Because they are, and inside you know that which is why it’s so hard.” Captain Phillips said staring at his former pupil, he grinned. “I’m not you Oliver, and you’re not me. You’ll only hurt yourself trying to be like me.” Oliver watched his former Captain disappear into the woods. It took him a moment to realize his mouth was on the bridge before he snapped his mouth shut unable to find the words. He slowly got up and pulled his own boots on. “Computer arch.” He said, and passed through the doors without missing a beat, on his way back to the bridge. Location: USS Tempest, Ready Room A Short time later… Oliver stood staring out the window at the back of his office, he swirled the contents of his mug in one hand. Soon they would arrive at Valt. Part of him knew there was a chance they might show up and Idaris might not be there, or worse that she might not have made it. Was always a risk when performing a duty like she was. But she was skilled and knew what she was doing. “Captains Log, Stardate 11804.08, supplemental. Here we are rushing headlong into another conflict. Granted our role is much simpler in this of coordination and defensive of our ground forces as they make landfall at Valt to liberate the planet. The preverbal cavalry we are. I have to admit to a certain level of trepidation about our return as we have no idea what we are rushing back into. I can only hope things have gone well for our forces that we left behind when we last left, and that my security officer is still down there causing no end of trouble. We should arrive soon.” He said stopping a moment to take a drink from his mug of Raktajino. “I finally decided to pay that program a visit down on the holodeck. I’m not sure that I’m glad I did or not. But it gave me much to think about. Nothing like getting scalded by your former deceased Captain. But I think its partly what I needed to hear. I just have to decide how to go forward.” He stopped pondering that for a moment. “How do you make a change like this, I know what I have to do. But I’m still not sure how to make it happen.” He shrugged. “I may just have to do what Captain Phillips suggested.” “We will see how this visit to Valt goes, hopefully better then the last time.” He took another drink, he felt a certain level of anxiety about their return. He was pushing it down, but unlike the past he wasn’t trying to hide how he was feeling anymore. Not now that he didn’t have too. “End log!” he said and turned to head back out onto the bridge. A Joint Post by Oliver Savage, Sully Derringer, and Elianna Kestran Stardate: 11808.11 Location: USS Tempest, Ready Room
Sully finished collecting himself after his laughing fit, and was surprised to hear his Captain’s voice calling him to the ready room.
Oliver passed through the doors to the Ready Room, heading straight for the desk. His anger was spilling over, and he was fighting to maintain his composure bouncing a fist off the top of the desk. He clenched his fist staring down at the desktop wanting so very badly to pummel it into oblivion but he held back. He let out a long resounding Sigh. “Damn it!”
Giving a quick glance around the bridge, Elianna stood and headed into the ready room after Oliver. She stepped inside just in time to catch his outburst. With an understanding look she asked, “How can I help?”
He leaned forward against the desk, “I don’t know. I cannot keep doing this with him!” He frowns, staring down at his desk. “I’m not going to keep doing this.”
She gave a nod, thinking this was a long time coming. Crossing the room she placed a loving hand on his shoulder, attempting to send him some calming emotions. “If it’s any help, I think you’ve shown considerably more restraint than I could have in your shoes…”
He takes a deep breath to help steady himself before moving back around behind his desk knowing Sully wouldn’t be long now. “Yeah…”
Sully waved a farewell to the crew he’d been talking to in the hall. “Guess he wants to….haha….have a team meeting haha!” He turned around on a dime and smirked, walking back towards the ready room with a concealed air of purpose. On his way he passed the rest of the bridge crew, noticing that Elianna was conspicuously absent. Giving them all a hearty salute, he stepped into the ready room with a beaming grin.
“What’s the scoop.” he asked, looking only slightly confused to see Elianna had joined them.
Oliver dropped heavily into his chair, looking up at Sully. “Have a seat.”
Elianna moved away, feeling slightly self conscious. “I can leave you two.”
“I’ve found it better for my circulation if I stand.” Sully replied, waving a hand at El. “You can stay, I’m sure whatever it is it’s probably best if you’re here to hear it as well.”
Oliver nods. “You can stay.” he says looking past Sully at Elianna, then returns his attention to Sully. “Have it your way.” he shook his head. “We cannot keep doing this you and I.” he said shifting in his chair. “This round and round bullshit we keep doing.”
“Language, Oliver, there’s a lady present.” Sully shook his finger disapprovingly.
Oliver smiled for a moment. “There are some things I’m good at, and others I’m not. You are so convinced that I’m the bad buy, that I have it out for you, that I’m the problem.” He shook his head. “We are the problem, this isn't a you or I, its both of us. And I’ve made the mistake of trying to let just let things slide, and let you figure it out. Or Johnny figure it out. But I can’t do that anymore.” he stood and walked to the window. “I was ready to defend you to Admiral Walker, and say we had to work on it. That you needed help for whatever you had going on upstairs.”
Wiping the side of his face, Sully interjected, “I’m gonna have to stop you right there. Last time I checked only one of us got relieved of duty and sent to a therapist so this really doesn’t seem like a ‘we’ problem, Oliver. And as for you ‘defending’ me? Be a man you absolute jackwagon. That’s such a lie. You defended me how? By ruining my life? By tossing me to the wolves? You’re the one who stuck the dagger in my back, so don’t sit there and expect me to thank you for it. You were looking out for yourself, like always. That part makes you a jerk, the lying makes you a sociopath.”
Sully shot a glance at El, adding “Did he tell you he tried to get me drinking so he could add it to my report, make me look like some schmuck?”
“The counseling was my recommendation Sully. As your doctor. You can blame Oliver, or Walker, but you should know the truth of the situation.”
“Sully, I told you I wasn’t the only one who saw you were struggling with something. While you’re right, this could very well be the end of your career in Starfleet, you needed help. I wanted you to get help so it didn’t happen. I want you here, you may not think so but why do you think I’ve given you the latitude to deal with the things on your own and not just started discipling you for all the insubordinate things, and everything else that's been going on. I was trusting you could figure it out. The thing is, I didn’t have to defend you to Walker, nothing came from it. He didn’t even come down on me for anything at Valt.”
Sully blinked, shaking his head at El. “You...you did this?” the words caught in his throat like glass and for an instant his eyes welled up, and the confidence and anger in his voice vanished.
“Stop.” he returned his focus to Oliver. “Stop saying you give half a shit about me when we both...we *all* know that’s not true. Do you even hear yourselves? You want me here, but the moment you can, you sell me out and leave me bleeding on the street. I almost blew myself up for this crew, the both of you included, and what do I get? You scheme behind my back together and get me blackballed. I’m done in Starfleet thanks to you two. Nobody will take me seriously. Nobody will want me on their crew. Nobody will give me a chance because all they’ll see is that black spot you put on my record so you could get your jollies.”
“Damn it Sully if I didn’t want you here, I would have shipped your ass off back to Starfleet long ago and got someone to replace you, but that’s not what I want. What do I have to do to show you I care? Let you continue to self destruct?” he gestured between himself and Elianna. “And we just get to sit back and watch? You’re right, you almost killed yourself for the crew, and we are grateful but why? This ship would be less without you. I don’t want to loose you, but you keep putting me in a position where I have to consider what’s best for everyone on the ship when you are out of control.”
“You’ve only ever considered what’s best for you, you piece of shit.”
“Really? Then why are you still here? Why is Johnny?”
“Because we have nowhere else to go. Family looks out for each other, they don’t toss each other to the curb like you did to me. Like you BOTH did. I can’t believe this. I would never have done this to you Oliver. Or you El. And to try and justify this kind of betrayal the way you two have been?”
Anger flashed in her eyes and she shot back, “How dare I what? Do my job? No! How dare you put me in a place where I have to choose between my friendship with you and doing my job! I did what I had to, now the question is can you? Get your shit together Sully! It’s only going to end your career if you continue down the path you’re on. And I don’t want that, because I believe in you, in your ability to lead this crew!”
Sully sniffed, pressing his thumbs against his eyes for a moment. “Doing your job, huh Doc? How many times did you ask me how I was doing, how many appointments did we have before you and someone who *isn’t me* decided I should see a therapist? Does that sound like doing your job to you? And I uh…..” He stopped mid-sentence, unnerved. “I wouldn’t worry about having to choose between our friendship and your job anymore. Seems like you’ve made that choice plenty clear.”
“Yes, I will choose your well being over you liking me every day of the week Sully. Precisely because I do care. And I’m not a Counselor, my job is your physical well being, until such time as your mental health puts yourself and others at risk, that’s outside of my area. You can’t wait for us to force you to do what you know you need to do.”
“Why would we go through all this trouble if we didn’t care?” Oliver moved back over to his chair. “Having you see a counselor isn’t a career ending thing, it can be yes, but that's up to you Sully. You’ve been struggling with something since we got here in this time. For a while I thought you had shaken it, but its just…”
“You’re right.” Sully began. “I’ve been struggling to find my footing here. Surrounded by murderers, terrorist, spies, and everything else. The death, the scheming, it’s all been really heavy. But I’m glad the two of you seem to be fitting right in. You look just like them, you’re right at home.”
“So true, I go around on a daily basis taking entire worlds, and murdering innocent civilians, and subjecting them to terrible conditions and servitude. Yes, just like everyone else.” he holds up a finger. “OH, lets not forget trying to overthrow the legitimate government… lets not forget that part.”
Elianna dropped down into a seat wearily and shook her head, “I don’t know what to say anymore. I’m sorry for all the times you feel like I didn’t support you. But I won’t apologize for this decision. I won’t.”
“I am sorry. I feel terrible. Not that you would believe it, but it was what needed to be done. I don’t want to sit back and watch you continue to self destruct. I won't watch a friend do that and do absolutely nothing. But as I said before you’re traveling a path that I can’t follow, it will endanger the lives of everyone on this ship at some point and you wouldn’t put up with that. Why should I? I would love to have the faith to think you would not, you’ve shown you wouldn’t but there may come a day that this isn't the case and then what?”
“You want to prove you care so much about me, or about anyone other than yourself Oliver? Relieve yourself of duty right now on the spot and sentence yourself to counselling for killing that ‘combatant’ you nuked from orbit. You do that and we might be close to even. But you’re not going to do that and we all know it. The Great Oliver Savage can do no wrong and suffer no insult. I don’t have any friends.”
It hurt her just to hear him say that, but Elianna sat quietly still. She just didn’t have the energy to argue anymore.
“I will make you a counter offer, how about we finish this mission that we’ve been sent on and I’ll request a formal inquiry from some other admiral other than Walker, or the Judge Advocate General’s office, and let them decide what should happen to me? I’m not mentally compromised, but I agree with you that maybe that shouldn’t have happened. I was waiting for Walker to come down on me when he called, hell I was surprised he didn't. You don’t feel that I made a good decision, I’ll gladly take it to the court or an Admiral Mast, and take whatever punishment comes down. But that does not detract from the fact that you need help. You continue to try and push this off anyway you can that you’re not having a problem, that everyone else deserves to be punished. Fine, we can put this in front of someone and put it to rest if it will help. But I’m not going to walk off the job and leave the ship with no Commanding Officer, or Executive Officer that is fully capable to execute his duties. That would be just as bad.”
Sully pointed his finger directly at Oliver “See? I knew it. When it comes to whether or not I’m some looney, that’s a decision you can make with the snap of your fingers. Taking me away from my ship, my crew, my whole life. But when it comes time for you to pay the Piper suddenly we’ve got to launch a full scale inquiry, call in Sherlock Holmes and the Hardy Boys, really *dial in* on what exactly it is we’re looking at. You’re a joke.”
“Funny, I offer to pretty much throw myself on my own sword, and you still throw it back in my face. You said I’m essentially invincible of any blame or trouble. This is about as big as it gets Sully.” He shrugs. “Hell they might even find me entirely unfit for command and remove me from my post. And yet you still can’t see it. I’m a joke. Trying to talk to you about this and getting you to see reason is the joke.”
“I hate you both. I told you not to do this Oliver and now you see why. I don’t even care if they slap you on the wrist or not. That’s not what this has ever been about. I’m gonna walk out those doors and get back to work, and here’s what the two of you are going to do: You’re gonna leave me alone forever. Forget my name when we’re off this ship. Don’t ask me out for drinks, don’t recommend me any new books to read, don't invite me to the Fantasy league, don’t even CC me on your communications. Beyond the job, I don’t exist. You do that for me and I’ll do whatever you need me to do on this ship, for my crew. That’s your counter offer, you scumbag.”
Sully didn’t even make the mistake of waiting for their responses, turning his back and walking out of the ready room without another word.
She sat in stunned silence for a brief moment before looking again at Oliver. “I don’t know how to stop him from throwing himself over this ledge,” her voice sounded somewhere between sadness and frustration. “At some point you have to think about the damage he is causing to the rest of the crew…” Elianna couldn’t believe she even felt like they might be reaching this point. Somewhere deep down she had been holding onto hope that Sully would see what he was doing. For the first time, she wasn’t so sure of that.
Oliver shook his head in dismay. “I know. He’s forcing my hand. Nothing I say gets through. I have no idea where this has come from. But it’s clear that nothing I can say or do will make this any better next to me doing what he somehow thinks is right. There is no reasoning with him and his insubordination will just continue.” he closed his eyes rubbing at his temples, his head was aching now. “I don’t want to end his career. Despite what he seems to think it wouldn’t be the end of his career if he moves on from here. Removing him from his family might do just as much damage, but he does not see that he is hurting his family. Captain Phillips would never have let this get this far.” he shook his head again. “I guess my only option left is to remove him from the crew. We can’t work together if we don’t trust each other.”
It was just as difficult for her to watch Oliver struggling with this as it was to watch Sully throw his career away. There was no easy answer here, and as much as she wanted to fix it for them both, she knew she couldn’t. “Maybe we should get through this mission first?”
Oliver nodded. “If we can get through it. He’s not going to make it easy.”
“How can I help?” She circled back around to her initial question. Though this time it was less about the situation with Sully and more about her concern for Oliver’s emotional well being. It was probably obvious that this was the case, but she didn’t see a reason to try and hide it. He knew how she felt about him, and that she cared.
Oliver stood pondering her question, he wasn’t exactly sure and the uncertainty was obvious. “This isn’t going to be easy, and being here helps. I’m not sure how this is going to affect me in the end. Right now I know I have a job to do and I need to do it. But once we circle back to this, I’m probably going to be a wreck. Just…” he took a long steady breath, it was clear he was losing his composure. “Just be prepared I guess for that eventuality. It shouldn’t be this hard, but I have a feeling it’s going to be in the end.” he shook his head in dismay again.
“He truly does not understand how much I do care. I don’t know how to show him that, not in a realistic way. It seems like it’s too late.” he could feel it snap inside him like a rubber band, and his chest heaved. “I’ve really screwed this up.” he looked down at his shaking hands, and he wiped away the dampness growing at his eyes. He couldn’t look up at her as his emotions began to flood over his artificial wall. “Damn it…” he leaned over at his desk holding his head in his hands, trying to hide his deteriorating composure but it was impossible.
Elianna was not surprised by the rush of emotions as he lost his composure, she had felt it there beneath the surface the whole time. It was why she had followed him into the ready room in the first place. But it didn’t make it any less heart rending to witness. She leaned forward instinctively and reached across the desk, resting her hand gently on his cheek. She wiped the tears there away with her thumb. If not for the desk between them she would have thrown her arms around him and held him. Instead she said softly, “You don’t have to try to hide it from me, I can feel it and I’m here for you.”
Oliver fought to rub away the wetness in his eyes. His mood quickly going from sadness to anger; it was not directed at her, not anyone. “Why can’t we just be normal! What the hell is wrong with us? Are we cursed?”
She drew back at the sudden shift in emotion, unsure how to answer that question, or if she really wanted to even. “I…” she paused, thinking about all that had happened since Lyshan. “If you had asked me that a month ago I would have said yes. But now…” she drew a deep breath and let it out slowly, “I think we are just trying to find our way again. Everyday can either be a little better or a little harder depending on what we do with it. You can’t hold yourself responsible for what Sully does. Not even if it’s in response to your mistakes. He chooses what to make of every situation. Not you. We aren’t cursed, it’s not out of our control. We decide who we will be and how we will respond. Sully is only a victim because he chooses to be.”
She mustered an encouraging smile, “And you are a good Commanding Officer. You’re not perfect, but you have control of your own decisions, so don’t start thinking you are a victim either.”
A pensive look crossed her face as she finished up, “I did that for too long and I almost missed what I had right in front of me. Don’t be like I was, or Sully is.”
Oliver nodded. “I’m sorry, you’re right. I can’t help but feel terrible about this, but you’re right. In the end it is his decision.” He runs a hand back over the top of his head and the other down his face. “Thank you for being here, I probably would have fallen apart totally, and it helped keep me grounded during the conversation.”
Elianna nodded, “I promised you when we showed up here that I’d always be here to ground you when you need. I’m not going anywhere, especially not now,” her smile turned just a bit more gentle as she said this.
Oliver smiled half heartedly, while he still obviously had an internal storm of emotions going it was a relief to know he wasn’t alone. In his mind he knew he wasn’t but it was calming just to hear it. Slowly he stood and moved around the table wrapping his arms around her. “Thank you.” He hugged her tightly. “I need to get cleaned up and get back out there.”
Despite his words, she held on to him and they both lingered a moment longer. She wished the rest of this stress could just fall away, that it could just stay like this. Finally she pulled back and looked up at him, “I’ll see you out there.” Elianna headed for the door, but paused a moment to prepare herself to face everyone. Drawing a steadying breath, she stepped out onto the bridge, leaving Oliver to get himself together.
Oliver watched her leave, he felt it too, wished they could just stay there holding one another but he knew that they had a job to do. He took another long breath, and then stepped into the head pulling the sink out to activate it. Reaching up he pressed the buttons to turn on the water, and splashed some water on his face trying to wash away any signs of his moment of vulnerability. He stared back at himself in the mirror after toweling off his face. He closed his eyes, and took several long breaths falling back on his teachings, centering himself before he too headed out onto the bridge.

He began stripping out of his usual duty uniform without skipping a beat as he headed for the bedroom. “Computer begin Captains Duty log!” he said as he tossed his jacket onto the bed. Settling down to take his boots off as the computer went through its usual indicators that it had accessed the file and started the recording. “Captains Log, Stardate 11808.18, the Tempest has made contact with Urcine of the House Degra. She’s made an interesting impression to say the least using us a bait for another house. We came out relatively unscathed which is good all things considered. We are under way heading for Donatu, and should arrive soon.” He stands and shrugs out of his pants and then walks over to his closet pulling out his dress uniform. “First impressions are important during diplomatic actions, and…” he pauses as he pulls the dress uniform of its hangers. “We’ve in our usual Tempest Fashion have made a shining example of Starfleet.” He shakes his head as he begin pulling on his pants. “Our internal conflict between Sully and I is spilling over and it’s only a matter of time before it ends in something bad happening. It was enough that Urcin noticed after but a few minutes of conversation. Not exactly, the first impression I wanted to give opening up. I hope the Diplomatic corps gets here soon.” He began shrugging on his Jacket. “I have to officially enter into the log that I was forced to deliver a punishment to Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Cleveland after repeated warnings to stop his actions. For the next twenty-four hours, he is confined to quarters while not on duty. I’ve reached a point where I am going to have to start coming down on them if they continue this behavior. It’s not doing any of us any good.” He shrugged fastening the jacket shut. “I have a feeling that Sully’s going to be disappointed when he finds out he’s not going down to the planet for the dinner. It’s a diplomatic function, and one of the few times I can actually get away with going on an away mission now. I need him here on the Tempest to help pull us out if something does go wrong. Johnny was right about one thing, it could very well be a trap. But let’s hope it does not come to that. We will see how this goes.” He said as he slipped his boots back on, and stood walking into the bathroom to put his pips, and communicator on. “Things have to get better from here right?” he asked staring back at himself in the mirror. His frowned knowing the answer to that, knowing it might get worse before it gets better, but part of him still had hope. “End Log!” he said, as he crossed his quarters and left his room behind. Mission 90 – “Relief” - Part 8Sim Date: September 22, 2018 Attendance: CJ – Game Director (GD) Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ensign Melody Wythe - Operations Officer (OPS) Lieutenant Naomi Idaris – Chief of Security (SEC) Open PositionsUnassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used: Stardate: 11809.22 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Transporter Room 2 A joint post by Oliver Savage, and Elianna KestranOliver’s sense of relief as the transporter beam finished its cycle depositing him on the Transporter Pad was obvious, he did everything in his power to put on a good show down on the surface for the Klingon’s but in truth every inch of his body ached. He exchanged weary looks with Melody and Noemi. “You two should head to sickbay, get checked out.” he stopped staring at Noemi for a long moment. “You both did an exemplary job down there. Not exactly what I expected but..” he shrugged a sore shoulder still holding onto the Bat’leth he had recovered in the hall. He watched as they both nodded and left, Noemi still looked like she could take on another small army of Klingon’s despite her injuries, he admired her energy. He also knew that she wasn’t about to show how injured she was, it was one of those things you learned and had ingrained in you while going through Security Classes ‘Never show weakness, or your enemy will exploit it.’ he heard his instructors voice echo in his head. He glanced over at the Transporter Technician. “Klingon Parties, nothing like them in the galaxy!” he shrugged slowly walking off the pad himself towards the door. Oliver stopped just outside of the transporter room and found his way down the hall, getting the occasional look from a crewman as he passed. He stepped into a lift that was vacated by some wide eyed blue uniform clad officers. He leaned heavily against the side of the now empty lift. He could still smell the blood that stained his uniform, mingled with bloodwine and his own sweat. “Uhh…” he said considering his first move. “Deck 8!” he said finally deciding to head to his quarters instead of sickbay. He could visit there later, he wasn’t that bad off in his mind so he felt like getting cleaned up would help more than a trip to medical. He stepped off the lift and when he tried to take his first step his muscles groaned in protest, but he pressed on heading for his room moving past the doors taking just a moment to drop the Bat’leth off onto his couch. His clothes fell to the floor as he stripped out of them heading for the bathroom. He stopped and started the water for a bath. He didn’t partake that often in such things, but today he felt like he needed it. He stopped staring at himself in the mirror before he hit his communicator. “Savage to the Bridge!” he said. “Bridge, go ahead.” He heard Sully’s familiar voice. He tried to mask the pain in his voice, “Can you please send a subspace message back to Odyssey and let them know we’ve had some success with the House of Degra, and to send the diplomatic envoy. I”m going to need a bit to get cleaned up.” He said. “Sure.” Sully’s response was to the point. “Thank you Sully, Savage out.” he said before closing the channel. He made a mental note of checking in with him later to see what his take on the battle in space was. He pulled out the sink in front of him, and then flipped on the water splashing himself in the face. When his vision cleared of water he watched as various colors streamed down his face. “Gross…” he said to himself. He slowly looked down and despite his uniform which lay in a multicolored heap on the floor, once what would be called a dress uniform was in serious need of recycling, but when he saw his own body he sighed. “I’m getting old…” He was bruised and cut in various places, most he didn’t realize he had until seeing them now that he had peeled himself out of his uniform. He gingerly touched a large bruise that ran up the right side of his rib cage. “Crap...” he inhaled sharply and now thought better of touching them again. Sickbay hasn’t been overly busy, despite the battle. Some minor injuries mostly associated with getting tossed. One burn from an EPS conduit that exploded, but otherwise they had escaped from the scuffle relatively unscathed. Elianna had been immediately aware of Oliver’s return to the ship, so it was no surprise when Wythe and Idaris had shown up in the sickbay. What did surprise her was the fact Oliver was not with them. She could sense him on the ship, so she tried not to worry, though it was difficult. Between herself and Julie, they had checked out and released Noemi for duty a short time later as well as taken care of the minor injuries. “Are you ok boss?” Julie eyed Elianna curiously. She seemed preoccupied to the younger woman. “Hmm? Yes I’m fine. Can you get the Kelotane for Lieutenant Carlson’s burn?” Julie stood there looking at her chief in surprise, “I already treated his burn, you signed off on it fifteen minutes ago, just before the away team showed up.” Glancing over at Carlson and back at Julie, Elianna flushed in embarrassment, “I’m sorry Julie, I think I’m a little distracted.” The truth was, she was mildly concerned by what she was sensing from Oliver. “I think I’ve got everything in here under control if you need to go take care of something else…” Julie offered and Elianna flashed her a grateful smile. “Thanks. Just call me if anything comes up,” Elianna said as she headed out the door. As soon as the sickbay doors closed behind her, she asked the computer, “What is the location of Captain Savage?” “Captain Savage is on Deck 8, Room 808.” Elianna frowned slightly as she headed off down the corridor, recognizing he had gone to his quarters instead of checking into sickbay. Oliver laid across his bed where he landed, he had opted for a sonic shower and while somewhat painful it had done the job of getting the grime off of him. He wasn’t sure he would be able to get out of the tub if he had honestly decided to to try it. His body ached, especially his ribs, there was a constant throbbing coming from his right side. He had considered dressing and heading to sickbay but decided better of it after trying to get up. Laying here on his soft bed was nice. He knew he was going to have to get up sooner or later but now was not yet the time. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but something pulled him back awake. He glanced around the room trying to figure out what it was and then realized what it was when it happened again, it was the chime of the doorbell going off. He blinked to himself, “Ut oh…” he rolled onto his side then into a sitting position when the chime went off again. “Come in!” he said. From inside she could hear him answer on the second chime, so she stepped up and entered. Elianna glanced around in confusion at the state of the room. A bat’leth was tossed on the couch, and clothes strewn on the floor. She leaned down and lifted the dress uniform tunic, looking it over with concern as she could see the torn fabric had various stains, including blood. She dropped it to the floor again and called out somewhat tentatively, “Oliver?” “I’m not dead I promise!” he said finally sitting upright, there was an edge of pain in his voice. His voice was coming from the bedroom, so she crossed the living room and came into the bedroom to find him sitting on the bed in a towel. Elianna frowned as she saw the bruises and cuts. “Oliver!” She moved over to look at his injuries closer, chiding him as she did, “Why didn’t you come to sickbay?” He shrugged and winced in pain. “Didn’t seem that bad when I got here, couldn’t see most of it. Bloodwine’s kind of dulled the senses some too I think. But yeah, I was planning on it.” he pointed at the larger bruise. “Just a little difficult to move around with this and laying here I wasn’t in pain so…” Sitting down on the bed next to him, she dug in her pocket, glad now that she had neglected to take her medical jacket off before she left sickbay. She retrieved a medical tricorder and a dermal regenerator. As she scanned him she commented, “You know away teams should report to sickbay…” She dropped the tricorder back in her pocket, satisfied there was no serious injury. “I should just let you suffer since you didn’t think you needed help,” she joked. They both knew she would never. “How bad is it? Give it to me straight doc am I gonna die?” he poked fun at her. “Depends on how much of a smart ass you intend on being,” she replied as she turned on the dermal regenerator and began treating the cuts. He smiled. “I appreciate you coming to check on me.” he let her go about his wounds. “That was a heck of a brawl down there. And Melody, holy crap. I had no idea she could fight. Never would have guessed it.” “Melody?” Elianna couldn’t hide the surprise in her voice, “she always seems so subdued.” She ran the regenerator over a wound thoughtfully, “You know, now that I’m thinking about it, she did mention to me that she studied Tai Chi, the fighting form.” She was quiet for a moment as she worked before she finally commented softly, “I was worried about you,” as a way of explaining why she came to check on him. He glanced over at her. “It got pretty crazy down there, and everything seemed to happen so fast. One moment Grahl and I were talking, and then all hell broke loose.” his expression softened a bit. “It was hard not to think about what was going on up here, but I was confident that you were in good hands. Sully may be having problems, but he’s true to his word that he cares for his crew.” Healing the last cut, she turned the device off and slipped it back into her pocket before finally looking back to his face, “I was fine, we were safe.” She didn’t want to talk about Sully, he was her friend and it hurt that he was so angry at her, so she didn’t want to think about it at the moment. Her eyes drifted back to one of the scars on his side from Lyshan. She reached out and traced her finger over it gently, remembering what she felt from him while he had been captured. She had seen the scars before, but as his doctor. It was different seeing them now, it reminded her of how quickly he could be gone. “You can’t worry about me when you’re doing your job,” she finally said, knowing how hypocritical it was of her to say. He studied her for a long moment before he finally nodded. “I can’t say that I won't, but I will try my best to keep my head in the game. I know if I’m thinking about you though in most cases the rest of the crew is safe too. If that makes sense.” he said his brow furrowing. “We have a dangerous job and I know that I have to stay focused and I will do my best to maintain my objectivity.” Focus. Objectivity. Clearly she was having difficulty with this herself. She had been too distracted in sickbay to even remember they’d already treated Carlson. She wasn’t sure how to do this, it hadn’t seemed so difficult with Ezron. Maybe because he was on a different ship and she didn’t have to watch him walk into danger every time. Or maybe because she knew now how easily she could lose Oliver after what happened to Ezron. Elianna looked back into his eyes again, “I love you.” He smiled. “I love you too.” He studied her for a long moment before he spoke again. “Something is wrong, did I do something wrong?” With a small smile and a chuckle, she shook her head, “No, you didn’t do anything wrong.” She scooted up next to him and rested her head on his shoulder, “I’m still just getting used to this, relearning how to worry about someone else.” Oliver took her hand in his. “I’m not going anywhere. We both knew what we were getting into when we entered this relationship. It’s going to have its moments of joy, and most likely sheer terror. But thinking about you in moments of danger will only serve to push me to want to survive so that no matter what I get to come back to you.” he rested his head on hers. “Its funny I always had this idea that it would be hard to change my priorities when I fell for someone. This was just natural.” he closed his eyes, wrapping his other arm around her, he squeezed her hand. “Sorry if I had you worried, I’ll make sure I check in with sickbay next time regardless of how I feel. I should know better.” For a moment she was still, enjoying being held by him. She felt safe and at peace in his arms; she didn’t want to ever leave. Even as she stalled, prolonging the moment as long as she could, Elianna knew she had to get back to work. Lifting her head and turning slightly, she captured his mouth in a gentle kiss. Once she broke the kiss, she leaned her forehead against his, eyes still closed as she exhaled a soft sigh and said quietly, “I’ve got to get back to sickbay. My duty shift doesn’t end for another hour …” Still she remained, not really wanting to go. He let out the breath he was holding slowly, and opened his eyes. “I know. I think I’m just going to lay here for a bit and rest. That bloodwine packs a wallop.” he said, then gently kissed her forehead. “Dinner tonight?” he asked hopeful. A slow smile spread on her face and she nodded, “I’d like that. And I’ll bring a pain killer when I see you.” There was a mischievous twinkle in her eye as she stood up and went on, “You’re not as young as you used to be, can’t be fighting Klingons anymore.” Elianna gave him a wink and headed for the door. He watched her leave, a smile on his face which slowly faded after she left as he was reminded of how sore he felt. She was right of course, granted he was still in his forties, but technically he was in his sixties. That was a strange concept to him to be so young, and yet so old. This experience today though reminded him of the effect of sitting in the big chair. It took him a moment to stand enough to maneuver his way around the bed so he could lay down properly this time, taking a painful moment to pull on a pair of boxer briefs and shorts. He decided against the tanktop as he knew it would be entirely too painful to try and pull on. His head hit the pillow and he took stock of the time before he spoke. “Computer set an alarm for two hours.” he said before closing his eyes. Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 8, Room 808 Stardate: 18809.23 Oliver lay in bed staring up at the ceiling, the low rumble of the ships engine’s in the background as they blasted their way back to Odyssey station. The lights were dim, and he didn’t mind. The shimmer of the Quantum slipstream effect outside had been dimmed by changing the polarization of the windows that gave him a pretty stellar view out of his quarters out the front of the ship. His fingers fumbled across the nightstand next to the bed finally finding the controls, and by feel he brought the lights up a little brighter and slipped slowly from bed. He quietly crossed his quarters finding his way to the replicator, he punched in a selection into the panel above it and a steaming mug of tea shimmered into being. He walked back to the door to his bedroom peering in before pressing the button that would release the doors to the bedroom to close the room off from the rest of his quarters. Settling down slowly onto the couch, he stared out the windows for a while, he was lost in his own thoughts. He played back over the events back at Donatu in his head. Something that Elianna had said had struck a couple of cords with him. “Computer begin personal log.” He said, wanting to get the thoughts out of his head. It was partly what was contributing to his current bout of insomnia. “Something Elianna said, about getting used to this.” He said gesturing with his hand in a circle indicating some unseen idea. “This relationship we’ve started on, its new. I think before she said something some of the idea has yet to catch up to me too, and now after the events of yesterday it has. I took some pretty big risks in that fight with the Klingon’s.” he paused the scene of him picking up the Bat’leth in favor of the phaser, his safety net that protected him from their attackers played through his memory like a video on a screen. “What do I do when I’m presented with such a situation again?” he asked. He sat contemplating that, several thoughts about how differently that fight could have gone if he had stayed behind the relative safety of his phaser. Grahl might have appreciated the fact that he joined in the fight, but he also could have seen it as an act of cowardice hiding behind his energy weapon. While in his mind he was sure he had made the right decision, but it suddenly dawned on him how cavalier he had made the decision. Thoughts of Elianna’s safety mingled with his crews on the Tempest, but he had trusted Sully to keep them safe, and he did. “It’s rare that I will ever have the opportunity to go on away missions, and while that is somewhat a comforting idea, that does not mean that she wont be going regularly. How do I keep my emotions on that subject in check? How do I avoid hesitation when a decision has to be made and she’s in danger?” he frowned going quiet again. “I have a problem in that I need to talk to Sully about this but he’s angry with the both of us, what exactly do I do. Because I honestly will need his help in that regards to make sure I am not playing favorites or making rash decisions because it’s her. Its easy to say that we knew what were getting into and that this is part of our jobs and we have to maintain objectivity but how do you reconcile that when the time comes?” he shrugged to himself. “I don’t want to seem some kind of callous uncaring bastard by not reacting, besides I don’t know if I can do that anyhow.” He ran over in his brain anyone he might know that’s ever been in his position before and no one he had served with had, or at least had admitted in the time he was in the service that they had a relationship like this, but he wasn’t stupid, there was likely to be people out there. But in his situation with Sully it was kind of a unique problem. “I’m going to have to stop dancing around it and let him know sometime soon. We’ve been careful not to let on to anyone but the Admiral but as this grows its not going to stay secret forever.” He said. “But going back to the original problem, I’m clearly going to have to keep in mind that someone else is counting on me to do my job and right the first time and not allow my emotions to cloud my judgement. And until this situation with Sully works its way out, I have to do my very best to be as subjective as I can with regards to Elianna.” He shrugged. “What bothers me is that I didn’t hesitate at all to make that decision to wade into something that could have very well gotten me killed or pretty badly hurt. I suppose some of that comes back to my previous training in Security. They teach you to act decisively and quickly otherwise people die.” “From a political standpoint what happened was probably the best thing that could have happened, but from every other respect it was not a good idea.” He glanced down at his body. “I’m getting older, and that was another point that hit home. I clearly am not as agile as I used to be, but how much of that is sitting in the big chair, and behind a desk. I’m going to have to make some efforts to fix this. Even if I never go on another away mission again, I should be better prepared physically.” He nodded to himself. “So, I’ll start that as soon as I’m healthy enough to do so.” He stared out the long windows in front of him for some time before finally speaking again. “End Personal Log!” he said drinking the last of his tea. His attention slowly turned to the doors to his bedroom as they hissed open as the image faded.

Stardate: 11809.25 Location: Starbase Odyssey, Office of Oliver Savage Oliver sat behind his desk, a serious look gracing his feature as he continued to pour over the mountain of work that had accumulated in the days that they had been gone. It was the curse of being in charge of both a station and a ship, paperwork for days. Even with some help it was still a mountain. They had arrived late last night and docked with the station, the crew having departed and engineering teams began repairing the minor damage the ship had sustained that had not yet been completed by the crew. “Computer begin Captains Duty Log!” he said without looking up. He waited as the computer went through its usual series of trills and beeps as it accessed the file and then gave its usual tone as it began. He didn’t respond for a long moment finally laying the padd in his hands down in front of him. He leaned back against the chair letting out a resounding sigh. “Captains Duty Log, Stardate 22809.25.” he said then considered what to lead with then shrugged. “The crew of the Tempest has returned from Klingon space after a brief diplomatic stop over at the planet Donatu. We assisted briefly with the beginning liberation of Valt, and then were asked to head up a Diplomatic mission to meet with the Klingon house of Degra. I have mixed emotions on how I feel it went, we certainly left an mixed impression on the Klingon’s I think.” He paused shifting in his chair. “During our visit and the start of talks another Klingon house decided to come calling and the Tempest and our Away team were caught in the middle of it with no real recourse but to participate in the fight. Its not really known how this will play out amongst the Klingon houses but one thing is for certain it at least left an impression on Grahl, the head of House Degra.” He slowly stood plucking his mug off the deck, walking to the nearby window swirling its contents He took a drink, lost in the view for a moment before he continued. “I think while the first impression we gave when we first met was not a good one per-sey when we left I think we gave the diplomats a good starting point. Klingon’s respond well to things when they see you are willing to fight along side of them, and I can happily say we did that part well.” “Not that we didn’t come out with some bumps and bruises.” He said dropping a hand to his ribcage where things were still tender. He knew that under his uniform that there was still an angry bruise. “I have to commend Ensign Wythe in her combat prowess. Didn’t know she had it in her. It’s obvious she has a lot of patience, and is very well centered most of the time so to see her bust out and leave a pile of unconscious bodies like she did was something…” he stopped considering his words. “Impressive to say the least.” He said unable to find a good word that fit. “Lieutenant Idaris of course put down her own fair share of our assailant’s. Of all the people I’ve worked with in Security and other branches related she scares me a little. But it’s great to have someone with her skill, drive, and energy on our side.” He shifted his weight, taking another drink. “Sully and the crew aboard ship did a fantastic job defending themselves in the orbital firefight, they even helped to bring the Klingon’s planetary defense system back online. Looking over the information from Sully and in turn from Torin the defense system was in sore need of some electronic security.” He let out a chuckle. “You’d think that Klingon’s would leave nothing to chance in a combat related area but it would seem this was not the case. Sully and Torin got some tactful suggestions over to Grahl’s people on ways to better secure there system as an added bonus.” He crossed back to his chair, and slowly settled back down. “I sent a request into command asking for an update on the liberation of Valt, hoping to hear something back that the planet was liberated. I feel somewhat responsible for what happens there I guess so knowing that those people were freed is important. Hopefully by now they are getting the aid they need and life is working towards returning to normal, though with as ravaged as the planet was it will take a long time to get there. Yet something else the True Federation needs to pay for.” He said, those last words coming a little angrier than he intended. “For the moment were back to maintaining the station and getting ready for whatever comes next from Starfleet. End log!” he said and picked up yet another padd off his desk thumbing it to life as the image slowly faded.

Mission 91 – “Homefront” - Part 1 Sim Date: October 7, 2018 Attendance: Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Lieutenant Naomi Idaris – Chief of Security (SEC) Open Positions Unassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used: OOC & Pre Sim Information: Thanks for sticking it out and participating in our Off Duty Antics last week, it was fun. No Specific orders, business as usual on the station. Hopefully once Nate gets his Character figured out we will have another player soon to join us. Stardate: 11807.10 Location: Starbase Odyssey, Office of Oliver Savage Oliver sat in on the couch in front of the large wall mounted monitor, he watched as data scrolled past slowly on the screen. Casualty reports, and recent engagement statistics, it wasn’t the best work but it was work. He tried to stay up on recent activities, so he would hopefully see something coming their way. “Computer begin duty Log!” Oliver said taking a sip from the hot mug of English Breakfast tea he had been nursing. The computer went through its usual tones indicating it found and opened the file. “Duty log, Stardate 11807.10. In the last few days we’ve seen in an increasing number of protests to the war currently being fought against the True Federation, it’s got temper’s elevated as one would expect with the introduction of such things into the general public. It’s never easy to be on this side of the fence knowing that we do is right, but also deep down agreeing that war only causes more problems. Nevertheless, here we are. My first officer seems to have taken to them which in some ways kind of scares me. I half wonder if its not due to our current state of disagreement or if it is simply because he believes in ending the war.” He paused taking another drink from his mug. “The problem I have is he’s gone from one extreme to the other, first it’s kill them all, to now peace for all.” He shrugged, the confusion on his face was obvious. “I have no idea what to think. Maybe that’s the point.” He leaned forward tossing the Padd he had in hand onto the table. “I’m concerned that the protest can and likely will get out of hand, but Lieutenant Idaris seems to have things in hand but I would rather avoid any unpleasantries with the protesters. They have a right to speak their mind, but if it turns to something more I fear what that could turn into. It’s a delicate situation to say the least, hovering on the edge of a powder keg.” He stood slowly crossing to his replicator. “Chicken Cesar Salad, Earth Traditional.” He said and waited as the bowl shimmered into being. He picked it up and walked back over to his seat settling down with the bowl of salad. “The Tempest repairs from the last engagement we were in with the Klingon’s should be finished this morning so that is a relief. Most of the crew has recovered or has been sent home on bed rest I’m told.” He takes a moment to load his fork. “It has been nice to have the last few days to just get caught up on work and rest. So, while part of me is anxious as to what our next mission will be, I’m glad for the respite. End log!” USS Tempest StatusAlert Status: Green – Docked and in Standby while undergoing repairs. I’ll be back posting a few things here and summarizing our last few missions since there was no lapse after the last mission. But I will have a log to go for the sim prior. Please welcome Mr. Horn to the group, he’s still fleshing out his character and hopefully will have that finalized soon but will be joining the crew! I’m not sure he’s decided entirely on a position, but it sounds like he might be coming in as our engineer. But we’ll have to see how that pans out. I received a message from INH AKA: Johnny Cleveland that he’s going to be taking a leave of absence for a while due to work complications. His schedule at work has changed and for the time being he’s not able to attend the sim right now until his schedule changes back, he has every intention of returning when he can. We might see some logs from him during that time to keep his character alive in the world. I would encourage you to reach out to him if you can think of a way to log with him. Stardate: 11815.10 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Ready Room (This takes place during out Transit to Theta Zibal III) Oliver settle down into his chair with is recently replicated Chicken Cesar Salad, he was about to take a bite when a message prompt appeared on his screen, it had the emblem of Starfleet Medical on it, and confidential which gave him pause. He set his fork down and paused again when he tried to access the message and it indicated it required a security clearance. He hit the button and punched in his code. He leaned forward and began to read with interest noting it had also been copied to Elianna. From: Lieutenant Commander Myla Bostock, Starfleet Medical – Mental Health Division To: Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Starbase Odyssey CC: Lieutenant Command Elianna Kestran RE: Lieutenant Junior Grade John Cleveland Captain Savage, I apologize for not getting in touch with you directly, but needed to get a message to you regarding your Tactical Officer John Cleveland, it is with much regret that I inform you that Mr. Cleveland has been relieved of duty of his own request and after an evaluation with one of our staff was granted this request and will stay in effect indefinably pending completion of his medical treatment and a medical review to evaluate his medical status at that time. Due to the sensitive nature of his condition and patient confidentiality I am unable to elaborate further but needed to ensure you were made aware of his situation. Thank you for your understanding and your time. Kindest Regards, Doctor Myla Bostock – Starfleet Medical Oliver sat back in his chair, his brow furrowed wondering how they could have missed that he was in such a state that he had to seek outside medical attention, but part of him was relieved by the situation. He knew that Johnny much like other members of his crew had been struggling since they had returned, it was not an easy thing to move past. He was certain a lot of Johnny’s behavior was a by product of his own coping mechanism, but he had no idea that it might be that bad. He shook his head, and closed the message filing it away. He pulled up Johnny’s Starfleet Record and made the notation necessary for the office of Starfleet Personnel. Summary of Events: 10/14/2018The Tempest was ordered by Vice Admiral Hobi to join a diplomatic mission to meet with the Zibalians, a trade eccentric species in the Theta Zibal system. Our mission is twofold, support the USS Catanzaro a Diplomatic Cruiser in their efforts with the Zibalian’s and Observation on the planet Surface. Starfleet has been hearing some strange reports from the planet and is asking us to put boots on the ground to see if we can determine what’s going on. But observation only. The crew of the Tempest was recalled, and the ship departed for the Theta Zibal system at Slip Stream! 10/21/2018The Tempest has arrived at the Theta Zibal System. We were greeted by an automated Tourist Message as we closed on the Third Planet in the system, and then greeted by a representative of the planet. Our request for shore leave was authorized and we entered the designated traffic pattern they specified. I ordered Sully to pull together an away team to go down to the surface to look around and start trying to find answers to what might be afoot on the planet surface. The Away Team consisted of: Sully Derringer, Noemi Idaris, Emily Reed (NPC), and Casey Torin (NPC) While the rest of us have remained on the ship for the time being. We are still awaiting the arrival of the USS Catanzaro, we have arrived about twelve hours ahead of them. Despite the few we have on leave of absence I’d say were getting there slowly but surely. Still waiting to hear back from Nate about his Character so hopefully that will pan out positively. Stardate: 11827.10 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Ready Room Oliver leaned back in his chair rubbing at his temples, his eyes closed looking up at the ceiling. He was silent for a while before he finally spoke. “Captain’s duty Log, Stardate 11827.10. The Tempest sits in our orbital parking space and continues to monitor things down on the planets surface. The USS Catanzaro is slated to arrive anytime here in the next hour to open some diplomatic accord with the Zibalian’s. I’m honestly unsure of what our role will be here once they arrive other than to assist as needed.” He let out a sigh. “If I’m honest with myself in regard to this I feel it has more to do with keeping us busy so that were not making a scene. Mainly my first officer. However now that we’ve arrived it does not feel that way so much. There is something coming on the planet and its unknown at this time who might be perpetrating these events, but it sounds like something is coming.” Opening his eyes, he leans over to his desk and picks up a Data Rod and tumbles it between his fingers. “Sully was able to uncover what appears to be some sort of Socialist manifesto written by someone going by the name Varga, were pretty certain its an alias. What is troubling about this is that it seems to point towards a general labor strike soon.” He set the data rod back on his desk and shrugged. “I can see how a labor strike would be bad, but I’m not sure honestly yet how this play into an effect on the entirety of Starfleet or the Federation, but then again I’m more of the hammer, and not the guy sitting back trying to figure out why were hitting this nail.” He shrugged again. “Assuming our orders do not change we’ll continue as we have sending teams down to the surface for shore leave, and to investigate to see what else we can find out following that avenue.” “Lieutenant Idaris has a lead of her own, and I’m curious to see where that one goes as well. She did not seem entirely convinced yet but has the feeling that she’s somehow connected with a resistance cell on the planet. To what end I’m not sure, perhaps the two are related but it’s hard to see right now why this world would have need for a resistance. Unless there is entirely more going on here than meets the eye. Needless to say, were going to continue exploring this as well. End Log!” USS Tempest NCC-1852-A Intra-ship Messaging SystemSEND TO: All Departments FROM: Captain Oliver A. Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Bridge
Oliver sat reading over a report, his head still throbbed despite the injection he had gotten down in Sickbay but he had a duty to perform and a minor irritation that was a headache was not going to deter him from doing his duty. A slight beeping caught his attention and he looked up first to the viewscreen. The planet spun past on the screen as they continued their orbit the soft glow of engines and occasional flash of vessel running lights of all the other traffic visiting the commercial world could be seen.
“Captain, you have an incoming communique.” Melody’s voice called as she half looked over her shoulder. “I believe it is your mother sir.” She said.
Oliver blinked and stood laying the Padd down on his chair. “My ready room please.” He said and crossed the room heading for his office. He passed through the doors without a second thought heading for his desk. He settles down into his chair, it was clear he was worried about this as his mom rarely called. He hits the button and the viewscreen was blank.
“Mom?” he asked and waited.
“Hello Ollie.” She said, the camera panning down to show her face. Somehow, she looked aged more than the last time he had spoken to her, she had oxygen tubs running from her nose.
“Everything alright?” he asked.
“Yes, just needed to see my son.” She said offering a smile.
“You had me worried for a moment.” He said and let out a sigh of relief.
His mother smiled and nodded. “Not my intention, but on top of wanting to see you I needed to talk to you.” She looked tired all the sudden, the smile faded. “Oliver, I…” she seemed to trail off suddenly her expression going blank.
“Mom?”
“Sorry dear.” She said waving away at his sudden concern. “So, these damn doctors are telling me that I have to give up my rights to make my own decision because of this stupid memory problem I’m having. I keep telling them I’m fine, but they don’t listen.” She said, frustration filling her voice.
“Is it getting worse?” he asked leaning back in his chair as the implication struck him.
“No, but they say it is.” She said looking off camera, she had a look that could melt Duranium. It was a familiar look that he knew all too well from his childhood.
“If the doctors are saying that’s the case then you should, just to be safe.” He said.
“I know, I may not like it but its what’s best.” She rolled her eyes, before returning her attention back to him. “So, I’ve done it. But wanted to explain some things to you.”
“Okay.” He said.
“I’ve given the primary decision making over to your sister Jessica. It’s no slight against you Oliver, she’s just going to have better opportunity and the time.” She took up a cup and drank. “I’m actually on a transporter right now on my way to Denobula, I’m moving to a facility on the planet where she can better keep an eye on me at the request of my doctor.”
“That’s probably best.” He said, he still felt a certain level of concern over his mother’s health and that she decided to skip over him obviously considering how busy he was. He suddenly felt a twinge of guilt tug at him.
“Oliver you’ve got a hell of a job doing what it is you do. Taking care of that Station of yours, and your ship and crew. You don’t need the responsibility of decision making of what happens to me also hanging on your shoulders. It wouldn’t be fair to ask you to do it.”
“But I would have if you had asked.” He said.
“I know. That’s why I made the decision not to put that on you as well. This was my decision while I can still make it.” She said with a smile. “You’ve got your hands full with that crew of yours I suspect anyhow.”
“I’m sorry.” He said solemnly. “This job I do…”
“Is necessary son.”
“Is it? Might not have this job for much longer if things continue the way they have been.” He opened his mouth to retract that, but his mother was quicker to the point.
“Oliver, you can only do the best you can. Your young, learning, your going to make mistakes. The question is will you learn from them. You struggled with that some as a child as I recall. Do you remember that cave you and your friends used to play in, the one that I forbid?” she asked an eyebrow arching.
“Yeah, I remember.”
“Do you remember even with as many times as I forbid you go in that place that you still did? Even well after I forbid it!” she said a bit harshly. “Yeah, I know you did.”
Oliver’s head cocked slightly, his own eyebrow arching. “You knew?”
“Oh son, when you have kids, you’ll understand one day how those things work. Parents know, even if you don’t think were smart enough. You know what gave it away?”
“No, I don’t.”
“The clay on your boots.” His mom said with a smile.
“Really?” he chuckled.
“You were a clever boy, but sometimes you missed what was right in front of you. You have to make mistakes to learn from them Oliver. No one is perfect.” she shrugged. “You remember what happened to Balin?”
He nodded. “Yeah, broke his leg and got banged up really bad in that cave. It was the last time any of us went down there.”
“Exactly.” His mother said with a nod. “Took a friend getting hurt to get you all to realize how dangerous it was despite how simplistic that hole in the ground was.”
He nodded. “I think I see your point.”
“Never did understand why you could have just built a tree house instead…”
“We did, just too easy for others to find.” He said with a shrug. “You going to be alright mom?” he asked.
She paused a moment as if considering his question. “Yes.”
“What are you not saying mother?” He asked after seeing the indecision on her face.
“Its fine Oliver.” She said offering him a smile, her eyes shifted again a blank stare as he studied her. Her face portrayed a sudden shift through several emotions, before she gave him a broad smile. “There’s my boy. I need you to go by the store on your way home from school Ollie”
“What?” he asked suddenly confused by the shift in conversation
“Sugar, Milk, not that replicated stuff. I want the real thing, going to make some cookies. Real sugar cookies.” She suddenly seemed as if she was miles away, mumbling to herself.
“Mom?”
The camera panned away, and a woman’s face appeared. “Sorry Oliver, she get’s like this from time to time. It may be a while before she comes back.”
“Is her Illness progressing?” he asked.
She only nodded.
“Is there anything that I can do?”
The nurse shook her head. “No Oliver, I’m sorry. We just need to make sure she’s looked after and kept as comfortable as we can. You should call her more often, its always good for her to stay connected with the family.”
He nodded. “Okay. Can you put my mom back on?”
The camera swung back to his mother, he blank look cut deep into his heart. It pained him to see her like this. He summoned his strength and smiled. “I love you mom.” He said.
She slowly turned and smiled brightly. “I love you too Ollie.”
“I’ve got to go now, we’ll talk again soon.” He said.
“Don’t forget to stop at the store…” she seemed to continue listing off stuff, but her voice trailed off and he couldn’t entirely hear her. He reached forward and severed the connection with the press of a button. His chest tightened, and his heart hurt. Oliver had known that it would eventually come, the point in which they started to lose her. She might still live for many years, but her mind was deteriorating.
Oliver took a moment to steady himself, he felt guilty for not being there, but he knew he was where he needed to be. At least for now, he thought to himself. Taking one last breath to pull him back to his center, he headed back out to the bridge to take up his post one hand subconsciously rubbing at his temple.

Mission 95 – “Homefront” - Part 5Sim Date: November 17, 2018 Attendance: CJ – Game Director (GD) Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ensign Melody Wythe - Operations Officer (OPS) Leave of Absence:Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Cleveland – Chief Tactical Officer (CTO) Lieutenant Junior Grade Cameron Corcoran – Science Officer Open PositionsUnassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used:Vice Admiral Hobi – Starfleet Command OOC & Pre-Sim Information: It was good to get back into the swing of things, thanks to everyone who was able to show up. The Date’s have not been announced yet, but just a head’s up there is going to be a holiday break coming up. We’ll get you those dates as soon as possible. Since there was no time Lapse between the next sim and the last I’ll be doing a quick recap of what happened in the last sim. The bridge crew discussed the findings we came back with and what information was found on the Data Stick we were given. Upon Further investigation Ensign Wythe discovered a video in which was an introduction to the group that is fronting what appears to be a coming labor strike or dispute of some kind. It went on to detail that the conditions and the way they are treated is not as sunshine and happiness that our crew has essentially seen on the surface. Its starting to look like there is a darker side to this resort world that is kept well hidden. Oliver spoke with Admiral Hobi about what we’ve found and revealed that it was known that these conditions were present previously but since Starfleet does not interfere with local politics as long as they do not violate federation laws we don’t interfere. Which she made very clear were our standing orders. Not to interfere with planetary politics just to observe and report back to her. Sully & Elianna beamed back down for his second meeting with the Zedul Dealer down on the planet, the meeting was brief but they were given tray’s that provided some additional information which we have yet to decode. Sully & Elianna are the only personnel at this time that are on the surface of the planet, everyone else is still on the ship. Though we have NPC’s doing shore leave rotation to keep up appearances.
