Mission 79 – “Operation Seleyan Sun” - Part 10 Sim Date: June 9, 2018 Attendance: CJ – Game Director (GD) Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Cleveland – Chief Tactical Officer (CTO) Ensign Melody Wythe - Operations Officer (OPS) Leave of Absence Lieutenant Junior Grade - Corky Corcoran – Science Officer (SCI) (LOA) Open Positions Unassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used: OOC & Pre Sim Information: Great sim Last week, this Saturday Coming up is our last before the break, we will not be meeting again officially for the Tempest/Odyssey until after August 1st. That would put us on Saturday August 4th returning to action. As I mentioned I will not be at the next sim as I will be on a camping Trip starting tomorrow. I do hope you guys have a great time. The powers that be are looking to run some events while were on the break so there will be things happening, just keep an eye on the Bulletin boards for details. Might be some interesting fun, and give you a chance to meet some of your fellow Role Players from some of the other ships. With that being said, please have a great time off I hope to see you at some of those events if you have the time. Recharge your batteries and I’ll see you on August 4th if not sooner. Stardate: 11809.06 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, “Captains Log, Stardate 11809.06 supplemental,” Oliver shifted in his chair behind his desk in the ready room, the desktop computer bore the emblem of Starfleet Command, and a flashing ‘Standby” flashing on the screen as he waited to be connected with Admiral Walker. “My mother always said it was better to ask forgiveness than it was to ask for permission. She may have been right about that in so many ways. Funny how something like that can apply out here in the vast expanse of space and in the middle of a war zone.” He grinned. “Mom’s always right you know!” “I made a decision that may not go over well with Admiral Walker, but it was a decision none the less to venture closer to Valt. The Tempest exited Quantum Slip Stream drive about five light years from Valt and began collecting sensor data. We seemed to arrive unnoticed. Long range scans of Valt did give us the composition of the enemy force in orbit, it was not nearly what I would have expected. Only a single Cruise, and a lot of escorts to keep it company.” He shook his head in dismay. “But only twelve total ships. That’s not much of an occupational force. Let alone one big enough to hold a planet.” “Our sensor resolution out this far was not nearly as good as we would like, and seeing that no one had taken an interest, and with having detected an incoming Klingon Raiding party we decided to move closer. I ordered us to jump in to two-point five light years from Valt to give us a little clearer picture of what we are dealing with.” “A Klingon Raiding party consisting of a total of eighteen vessels dropped in on the fleet at Valt and while they put up a valiant fight the Klingon forces were defeated leaving only the Cruiser left in orbit. The Klingon’s put up a hell of a fight.” “During all of this Ms. Wythe began detecting subspace traffic between Valt and Relva a neighboring planet under the control of the True Federation. Our long-range scans were able to determine that Relva has a Standing fleet of about sixty ships which of course gave me a bit of pause knowing there is a fleet of that size this close.” “Sully came up with a brilliant idea to try and crack the encrypted traffic using information we captured previously from the smart mines we encountered and maybe even to my own surprise it worked. We got in and began pulling down the now unencrypted traffic. This gave us a good look at the True Federation’s overall fleet strength which was surprising to say the least.” “While the fleet at Valt has been asking for help from Relva, the fleet at Relva has stayed put and their request for help have been declined. Its unclear as to why at this time but I’m hoping we might be able to figure that out with a closer look at the Planet. Which brings me to my next command decision.” He said leaning forward in his chair. “Remember how I mentioned asking for forgiveness is sometimes better, I decided to bend my orders a bit given the conditions at Valt and gave the order to make for Valt direct. We’ll be in orbit in less than ten hours at this rate, but I’ve given orders that if we see any movement from Relva to bug out and head home. We’re playing this relatively safe, but taking a risk at the same time, I can only hope that Admiral Walker see’s it that way. With only a damaged cruiser in orbit over Valt it seems like its worth the risk. I don’t intend to stay long, only enough to try and convince the Captain of that Cruiser to Surrender before we have to let fate take them and gather as much intelligence as we can from the planet and get home to report all of what we’ve found.” “Something you have to make judgment calls in the field, and I feel that while I am sure I will receive hell for this one, it’s the best one. The trouble will be leaving once we’ve finished. That Quantum Slip Stream drive has helped a lot with getting around, but this recharge time is the pits. End log!” USS Tempest NCC-1852-A Intra-ship Messaging System SEND TO: All Departments FROM: Captain Oliver A. Savage – Commanding Officer SUBJECT: Shift Responsibilities General Orders: The Tempest is racing towards Valt, there is still a True Federation Cruiser in orbit which we will need to deal with, were stretching our orders a bit by making this move. No unnecessary risks, this is still a recon mission. Take the ship to Red Alert, and man Battle Stations. Executive Officer: I know it may not be the best and first choice but see if you can coax a surrender out of the Captain of that True Federation ship, of course don’t take any risks, take it out if you have to or they give you no alternative. Once you’ve dealt with the True Federation ship, make for high orbit assuming there isn’t any danger, and get scans of the planet. As soon as we have what we need, get us on the way home. The QSD should be about ready to spool back up for the jump home. Tactical Officer Department: Keep an eye on that True Federation Vessel, be ready to neutralize it if needed. Also look sharp for Operations Department: Keep monitoring Communications Traffic, at the first sign of trouble make sure to let Sully know. Also keep an eye out for any survivors that have not been recovered and report that back to Sully. Flight Operations: Continue on course for Valt. Engineering Department: Be ready to engage that QSD to get us out of here if things go south. Medical Department: Your medical knowledge may be needed to properly evaluate the condition of those on the planet, granted we’ll be working with scans from orbit but your insight may be valuable in this endeavor. Science Department: We need to take details cans of the planet. USS Tempest Status Alert Status: Red Alert – In Transit Starbase Odyssey Status Alert Status: Yellow Alert

Mission 80 & 81 – “Operation Seleyan Sun” - Part 11 & 12 Sim Date: June 16, 2018 & June 30, 2018 Attendance: CJ – Game Director (GD) x2 Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) x1 Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) x2 Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) X2 Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Cleveland – Chief Tactical Officer (CTO) x2 Ensign Melody Wythe - Operations Officer (OPS) X2 Lieutenant Naomi Idaris – Chief of Security (SEC) X2 Open Positions Unassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used: Commander zh’Nol – USS Teutonic (True Federation Vessel) OOC & Pre Sim Information: What a great wrap up leading up to the break, good job everyone. Time lapse as stated by Cj was about 4 weeks. So have some fun writing some back story stuff, character development, and Co-Logging with your fellow crewmates if you want to try and work some things out. 4 Weeks in sim is a lot of time, so post some logs! Stardate: 11806.23 Location: USS Tempest, Deck 1, Ready Room. Oliver passed through the doors to the ready room, his cheeks still burning with anger, frustration was coursing through him regarding the vents that had just transpired. His mind was a blaze with thoughts on what to do in response to all that had just transpired. “Damn it!” he exclaimed as he crossed the room, but instead of settling in at his desk he began pacing the length of the room. “Why, why does it always have to be one extreme or the other with this damn crew.” He said to himself, mumbling some unintelligible words. His brow furrowed as he stopped, “Computer begin log!” he snapped. “Captains log Stardate 11806.23, Supplemental.” He said and took a deep prolonged breath as he waited for the computer to acknowledge the beginning of the recording. “Where the hell do I begin…” he said. “No doubt am I going to hear it to no end, we went outside of our mission parameters both on my own order, and then Sully had to go and push it further. This mission may have been a total disaster.” He shook his head and began pacing again. His voice conveyed his exasperated state as he continued. “What do I do with Sully, what he did in response to the atrocity we witnessed was certainly very close to going over a line we cannot cross.” He shakes his head and takes another deep breath to steady his emotions. “I left orders for us to close with the planet, destroy or subdue to vessel in orbit, take in scans and head home. Simple orders, which already put us at risk, a calculated one that I felt was worth it at the time.” He stopped again. “I know our orders were to observe from a distance, but all the plea’s from Valt were being ignored so I felt we had time to do a closer inspection of the planet. I had another pressing matter to attend to, so I left Sully in charge with orders specific to what needed to be done.” He stopped again. “Maybe its my fault, I went outside of our orders and maybe Sully felt there was more leeway since I did so he felt he could, I don’t know.” he looked down and noticed his hands were both shaking. “Damn it!” he muttered clenching them to try and quell the twitching. “Sully did convince the Teutonic to surrender, and they essentially disarmed, but for whatever reason the crew was left aboard the Teutonic instead of moved to the Tempest and put under lock and key. Which is something were going to have to discuss as that could have been a huge tactical error on Sully’s part and put the ship in danger should they have had ulterior motives.” Oliver said finally ending his nervous pacing and stopping at the window looking out behind the Tempest and the Slip Stream Driver effect surrounding the giant vessel. “What came after I’m not sure why, but instead of scanning and gathering intelligence Sully decided to make a proclamation to the planet that our vessel had liberated the planet and they should surrender. I’m guessing he didn’t check or didn’t care that the Planet’s occupying force outnumbered us by a ludicrous amount, I don’t understand how he thought that one ship could possibly liberate an entire planet with that many True Federation Military members on the planet. It was a massive tactical error, not to mention gave away who we were, and basically taunted them.” He moved over and settled hard onto his chair. “Sully clearly didn’t think this through.” “We paid a price that was too heavy to pay for his message, that taunt got a response that no one should ever receive. It came when I arrived back on the bridge, a True Federation soldier rounded up hundreds of Valt Citizens and not only had them executed but made us watch as several of them were over open comm’s.” he said going quiet, his cheeks flaring red once again. “While our scan’s have revealed the conditions on the planet, and the people being treated poorly, this was intolerable. This stepped over a line by itself that no respectable Starfleet Officer ever should. The cost of so many lives just to send a message. Maybe it was a bad idea, but I sent a response in kind after making sure there wouldn’t be any collateral damage, I had Johnny level the building they were in with a torpedo. I’m pretty sure they received my message in kind. And as much as I wanted to stay and deal with this head on like Sully, I have over a thousand lives to make sure they get home, and that our valuable intelligence makes it back to Starfleet.” He stopped going quiet for a long moment, just staring out into space. His anger and frustration were almost palpable, he was seething with rage, and he knew it. He had to hold onto the reminder that it was his job to set the example, his job to maintain objectivity so he did so with his moment of silence, slowly quelling the rage. “The True Federation sent ships from the nearby planet of Relva, ten of which jumped to QSD, we had to work fast as we had a limited amount of time to make anything happen. So, I gave orders to Idaris to set up an insurgency on the planet, gave her enough supplies and what requested manpower she asked for before we left her behind.” He stopped, flinching at his own words. “We left her behind.” he sat quietly for a moment again. “I know that she’s a competent operator, more than her record would lead on. But I hate leaving people behind. Even with such a task and a tall order as start an insurgency on a planet to overthrow or make hell for the standing enemy forces, but I can’t help but feel a little worried about her. I never like to leave a person behind.” Oliver sat forward leaning on his desk. “We burned the QSD to get home. Blew out and melted some of the Capacitors but managed to make it to speed so we should be home soon. Another cost to our venture, but what choice do we have with twenty vessels bearing down on us.” He said. “Walker’s probably going to have my ass for all of this. But I made the best decisions I could given the circumstances. And now I have to figure out what to do about Sully.” “He went over to the Teutonic with the intent of executing the prisoners in response to the True Federation killing civilians on the planet, and while I sympathize I feel I can’t just not do something about it. But what is the correct response to something like this. How do I punish him for wanting to be emotional, hell I put a torpedo on those bastards for what they did, but they were combatants! Those people over on the Teutonic were non-combatants, and we have rules that we follow. Hell, we have morals clearly over those of the people running the True Federation.” He leaned back again, that color seeping back into his cheeks. “We pulled the crew off the Teutonic and left it as a special gift for the incoming vessels, hopefully it made another lasting impression.” “Sully’s put me in a hell of a position, do I punish him so that others do not do the same, or do I let it slide because it’s how everyone else felt in the moment. You could see it or hear it in everyone’s voices on the bridge. But what example does it set if my First Officer cannot maintain his objectivity or keep his Moral Compass set right.” He sighed leaning back in his chair, closing his eyes and began rubbing at his temples. “Damn it Sully!” he said bouncing a fist off his desk. “I’m certain I’ll be speaking to Admiral Walker soon about this incident, and I’m sure I’ll be missing part of my behind because of this, it was a terrible domino effect of decisions that clearly were of the best intentions but resulted in the worst possible outcome. We endangered our ship and crew and went outside of our orders. I’ll accept any punishment that ends up coming my way and figure out how to deal with Sully soon. End log!”

(Mission 80-81 - Operation Seleyan Sun - Part 11-12-A) Stardate: 11806.30 Location: Odyssey Station A Joint Post by Oliver & Elianna
The corridors were fairly empty as Elianna moved through the station. As long as you avoided areas where the bars and restaurants were, you could move about without running into too many people at this time of the night. The few stray people she did cross paths with gave her odd looks, since she was stalking through the station in her linen pajama pants and wrapped in a sweater. She didn't even notice any of them though, her mind was too preoccupied. Coming to the door she reached up and hit the chime.
Oliver’s eyes fluttered open, he wasn’t entirely certain at first what it was that tugged him from his sleep but the chime sounded again bringing his attention to the chronometer, he blinks staring at the time and by the third chime he slowly swung his legs over the edge of the bed, and sauntered groggily out to the door punching in the code to open it, he blinked rubbing the sleep away. “It had bet…” he stopped blinking away the sleep in his eyes, “Elianna?”
The sight of Oliver in the doorway made her suddenly feel very self conscious, “I’m sorry, I didn’t think about the time…” it was clearly later than she had realized.
He offered her a sleepy smile. “No worries. You alright? Why don’t you come in.” he said gesturing and stepping aside.
She hesitated for a moment and then entered his quarters, stopping just inside and glancing around nervously. “I’m sorry I woke you,” she said again.
He moved over towards the Replicator. “Nothing a little coffee can’t cure. Want something?” He asked punching in his order into the control panel.
“Coffee would be good, yes. Cream and sugar please.”
He nodded, and punched that into the control panel and waited for the two mugs to materialize before retrieving them. He crossed back over to her holding the mug aloft. “What’s on your mind.” he said moving over towards the sitting area, slowly lowering himself into a chair.
Gratefully taking the mug from him she followed over and settled down on the couch. She turned the mug in her hands, looking down into the brown liquid. “I talked to Sahl earlier.”
Oliver nodded, and took a long drink from his mug, he suddenly had a feeling he was going to need to be entirely more awake than he was for this conversation. “I’m guessing that was not an easy conversation.”
Elianna nodded, “It could have been worse though, I suppose. I mean, I should count myself lucky to get to have a conversation with someone who knows…” she shook her head, “well you know.” She finally took a drink of her coffee and then added, “This is actually the second conversation I’ve had with him.”
“I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that’s why you’ve seemed more out of sorts these last few days. I’ll wager it got you thinking about some things that were hard. You’ve not really been yourself lately.” he said leaning back in his chair. “Did talking with him help?”
Elianna set the cup down on the coffee table next to the doily with a sigh and turned so she could look out the window. She had been aware that they had been concerned about her, even from the way Johnny and Sully had acted at the outset, it was no secret that this was a weird situation to be in. And all of them watching how she handled it only heightened her emotions in the midst of everything. “No. I would’ve been happy not talking again after the first conversation.”
Oliver finished taking another long drink from his mug, then set it down on the table. “I think maybe some time from now you might appreciate the chance to hopefully speak your peace with him. He’s not Sahl, but he is. So it gives you kind of a unique opportunity that most people don’t get to say goodbye. At least it’s there if you haven't done it.” he paused for a moment. “Even if you already said goodbye before, maybe this will give you a chance to really let him go.”
“It is Sahl, he’s just not Ezron, and that’s the problem. I wasn’t talking to Ezron tonight. I mean obviously,” she shook her head in frustration, “it’s all so confusing and he just makes everything even more confusing.”
“Yes it certainly is. So what’s got you so shaken up that drew you here tonight?” Oliver said picking up his mug and taking another drink.
“He wants me to leave with him.” She continued to stare out the window.
He stops mid drink, and looks over at her, his eyes conveying his sudden concern and his emotions a slight hint of panic, which he quickly quells. “Are you ready for that? That seems a tall ask, where would you be going?”
She gave a sarcastic laugh, “I don’t know the answers to any of those questions.”
Oliver nodded, “Tall ask indeed. You know whatever you end up deciding I will support you. And aside from being a little selfish, if you want my opinion just on that alone I think its a bad idea. He should give you more information so you can make a well rounded decision. It’s kind of irresponsible of him to ask you to go blindly with him. You don’t even know him.” he sighed. “I mean you do know him, but not… Him.” he shrugged, with a befuddled look on his face. “You know what I mean.”
“I do know what you mean, I know what you mean better than anyone else. I don’t know him, and of course my first instinct is to think it’s just some emotions hanging on from Ezron. But…” she finally looked at him, “I’m Betazoid Oliver, I know what my husband felt for me and this is… different.”
“What do you mean different?” he asked, an eyebrow arching.
“Just different. More reckless and intense. It was unsettling, and unexpected.”
Oliver sat pondering that for a long moment. “He’s going to go back to Valt I’d wager, or back behind enemy lines.” he slowly stands up, and paces around behind his chair. “That does not seem right, I’ve met a few reckless Trill before but they usually were not joined. I thought that was part of being joined, was to protect the Symbiont. This seems a bit out of character.” Oliver had to fight to push down the feelings of worry and panic that he was suddenly feeling rise again, it was much harder this time, though it might be obvious by his rambling he realized, it was no use in hiding it.
“You’re worried about me,” she observed, tipping her head as she studied him.
He stopped pacing. “Of course I am, you are one of my dearest friends. How could I not worry about you?”
“He’s not going back to Valt, or back into True Federation space I don’t think. He seems to want away from all of it. But that doesn’t matter, it’s not what’s bothering me.”
“Okay, so what is?” There was a hint of relief in his voice.
“Jerzad was there, telling me how he felt and asking me to be with him, and my first thought was I couldn’t leave,” she sighed again, “I wouldn’t mind if you were a little bit selfish right now.” She picked up her mug and took a drink of the coffee, more to curb her nerves than anything else.
“You know that if you felt that leaving was the right thing for you even if it was to be with him, I would completely understand and support you. But if I’m to be honest, I don’t want you to. I don’t want to lose you. You’re about the most stable thing I have in my life here, and I would do what’s necessary to continue on if you were not here, but I would be lying if I didn’t say you help ground me here. I would miss you incredibly so. But I completely understand. We’ve all been through a lot and you more than deserve to make that choice.” he moved back around and dropped back into his chair. “It would be very hard, but I want you to be happy more than anything.”
“Oliver, I have spent the time since we came back feeling like I’m floating through life. Now tonight, I’m given the option of a new path and I couldn’t imagine leaving you.” She looked down at her coffee cup again, “So tell me, should I stay or should I go?”
It was too much not for him to be internally conflicted, and there wasn’t any holding back the myriad of emotions he normally kept pretty well in check, he opened his mouth to speak and then stopped considering his words carefully. “Please don’t go.” he stopped, swallowing. “I don’t know if I can do this without you.” he paused again trying to reign in his own emotions. “We have such a great opportunity here, something new. This war sucks, it’s terrible. But we, of all people have a chance to show that Starfleet still can hold to its morals, and not turn towards other means to follow the way of the True Federation just because things are tough. This may not be exploring space, but we are exploring something different here, maybe the core of what we are. The very depths of what it is to be part of Starfleet, and the Federation. I feel like we're the last remnants of a bygone time that people have forgotten.” he leans back in his chair. “What can I do to help, what would help keep you here?”
Elianna set her cup down with a clatter on the glass top of the coffee table again, spilling some of its contents. Then standing up abruptly, she turned her back to him and looked out into the arboretum, wrapped now in the darkness of it’s artificial night, “I don’t need a stump speech. I think we’ve given up as much as anyone for Starfleet and we have every right to be angry. Sully and Johnny and all of us. But we have kept on, I’ve kept on. You know as well as anyone I’m not in danger of falling prey to the True Federation’s ideals. This isn’t about the war, or Starfleet or the enemy. I don’t care about Starfleet right now, or being some kind of moral compass to a bunch of people who have lost their way. This is about knowing where I belong.”
She turned a frustrated look at him over her shoulder, “I’d like for one damn minute to do something for me, instead of for Starfleet!”
“I… I’m sorry that wasn’t intended…” he glances down at the carpet for a moment. “This job we do is taxing, that is for certain. Maybe that’s the point, we’ve let it get in the way of just allowing us to be us. So focused on the crap that's happening we’re missing the moments. I felt.. Honestly I feel the same in a way, but I’ve I guess buried myself in work trying to hide from it. The one thing that kind of pulled my focus away from that was that.” he points out to the arboretum. “For a couple of months I got to do something genuinely me, and not for just me. First time I’ve felt good in a while.” he frowns. “I’m not sure what advice to give you in finding yourself. Or having a minute to be just you. I think I’m stuck there too, maybe not as bad as you are.”
“Do you need to take some time off to do some soul searching to figure this out?” he looked back up at her.
“No, I…” she faltered, trying to figure out how to answer, “I know where I want to be, I just want to be sure of why I’m there. I didn’t come to you because you’re my boss. I came to you because you’re… you.”
“So I’ll do what I do best and ask, where you feel you should be. If I understood that maybe I can help?” he asked picking up his mug. “More coffee?” he asks pointing to her cup.
Her cup was barely touched as it was, so she shook her head in response to his request. She watched as he walked over to the replicator, and she wished this was all easier. That she could just read his thoughts or share her own, but instead she was forced to deal with this situation like humans do. “Why do you want me to stay Oliver? And please don’t talk to me about the job or Starfleet needing us now more than ever. Why do you want me to stay?” She felt like she was holding her breath, waiting for an answer that could help to determine her course.
Oliver stopped as he set the mug into the replicator, frozen. He felt the sudden rollercoaster in his gut, and his brain churned through emotions of fear, guilt, and indecision. He turned around leaning back against the wall, “I…” he started and hesitated. “Ever since you and I met all those years ago you always stood out to me.” he stopped frustrated with himself. “When we met and as our friendship grew, I became very fond of you. Our friendship has always been important and I always knew there was a line, a line I couldn’t cross and we’ve become so close over the years it’s been hard hiding my feelings for you. But my damned sense of honor, you were a married woman, and you had Ezron and I respected that and there was the line in the sand.” he stopped a moment looking down at the floor, searching for words.
“Since we came back and everything has been up in the air finding out all the time we lost, all our loved ones lost, I found myself in that position, but I’ve not known what to do about it. I didn’t want to cross a line. I’ve honestly lost sight of wherever that line is anymore. But I’ve been stuck not sure what to do about it.” he stopped and looked back down at the ground for a long moment, before looking back up.
“Why, because I care about you, very much so and I can’t imagine what it would be like without you around. You ground me in so many ways. Without you I would be lost, but I also don’t want that to stop you from doing what you feel is right for you.” he felt his heart was beating in his chest, it almost felt like it was going to burst, he swallowed hard and stared back at her letting his words sink in.
Elianna sat back down on the edge of the couch, it was the second time today she had felt disoriented by the weight of someone else’s feelings. Or was it the weight of her own emotions this time? It had been something she suspected and even sometimes thought she sensed from him, but it was different hearing it. After a few moments of silence she looked up at him, “Since we’ve come back, I’ve felt like the only thing that I could focus on was being there for you. But until I was talking to Jerzad, I didn’t realize just how important our relationship had become to me. The idea of leaving you gutted me.”
She stood up and crossed the room to stand in front of him, “I came here tonight unsure what your answer would be. I half expected you to talk to me about your duty. But I realized a few hours ago that we’ve been in some sort of pseudo relationship for quite a while now and…” she hesitated for another moment, “I can’t be half in and half out. Because if we keep going on like this, someday you will find someone to be all in with instead of me, and it will break my heart.” She placed a trembling hand on his chest and let down her mental walls, to reach out with her mind and share her emotions with him so he could understand. All the fear and uncertainty of laying her emotions bare mingled with deeper feelings of tenderness and love. Her voice wavered slightly as she finally went on, “I’ve lost someone I loved once, I couldn’t do that again, especially if the reason was because we never gave it a real chance to begin with. I can’t be half in this anymore.” She waited with her heart in her throat, wondering where he would decide to go from here.
Oliver felt the wave of emotions wash over him as she let her guard down like a wave crashing onto a beach, he felt his chest tighten and his own heart began beating in his chest feeling as it might burst. It was like a thousand pounds had been lifted off of him in just that moment. He slowly reached up and wrapped his hand around hers, squeezing it. “Then don’t, duty be damned!” he said.
He closed his eyes taking in a deep breath and slowly let it out and with it all the emotional barriers he had been taught by a friend to put up as to not give away his feelings. All the love and affection he had felt for her poured out like a dam bursting. “I’m all in if you’re willing to take that step. I’m tired of hiding how I feel.” he opened his eyes meeting hers staring deeply into them. “I’ve wanted to tell you, but I wasn’t sure it was right, or that you would feel the same.”
Elianna was filled with relief as she sensed his reciprocated feelings for her, and it was more than she could have hoped for. She had been afraid that his rank and position would have led him in a different direction. He had always been so duty bound. She smiled softly at him, “I’ve been willing to take that step for a long time, it just took me until now to realize it. This is where I want to be, with you.”
Oliver pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her hugging her tightly. “I’m sorry it took so long to get here. I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be, than here with you.” he leaned over kissing her softly.

Location: Starbase Odyssey, Quarters of Captain Oliver Savage Stardate: 11807.01 (Mission 80-81 - Operation Seleyan Sun - Part 11-12-B)
Oliver sat on the couch toweling off his damp hair, he stopped for a moment realizing that he was smiling. Something he didn’t do very often. Well he had good reason to, he felt such a relief and had not felt this happy in a long time. Tossing the towel aside he pulled his Burgundy uniform undershirt on and began pulling on his coat when he stopped staring down at his communicator and rank pips sitting on the coffee table. It was like a sudden slap in the face causing him to stare with his mouth agape realizing suddenly what he had done, and the implications. “Oh shit.” He muttered to himself, and the smile slowly faded replaced by a worried look as he settled back down onto the couch.
He opened his mouth to start to say something then stopped a moment picking up the pips one by one placing them on his collar one at a time, leaning back with his communicator in hand, he turned it over in his fingers, it was scratched and worn. Still presentable but it had… character. He stared at the backing and his name, rank, and serial number engraved into the back. He had many of these over his career, but none like this one. It was special.
“Computer begin personal log!” he said and waited for the computer to signal it was ready to record.
“Personal log, Stardate 11807.01.” he stared at the Communicator for a long moment before he began. “There comes a time in one’s life when you have to make hard decisions that can have lasting repercussions. I just had the realization that I made one of those last night and now I feel like I have to reconcile that.” He said stopping and placing the badge on his uniform jacket. “Or do I? I don’t regret it one bit. Not one bit.” He said, there was confidence in his voice, but the worried look still remained.
“The uniform code of conduct pretty much says that Commanding officers are not supposed to fraternize, let alone become involved under the same command and I crossed that line. I can’t say I have any regrets on it what-so-ever. I know this is going to put me in a place that will likely have me in some hot water, but I’ve made my decision. If I’m to be punished for my decision, I’ll accept whatever comes my way.” He stood crossing the room to the table collecting his dishes, depositing them into the replicator and recycling them.
He stood and watched as the dishes shimmer out of existence. “I thought it might be harder if one day I had to make a decision between having a life and my career which I’ve worked very hard on for so long, but it wasn’t. I made it in a heartbeat. Guess I was just waiting for the right person to come along to spark that kind of feeling and decision in me. If it means that my career comes to an end here or takes a drastically different path, then so be it. I’m perfectly okay with that decision.” He crossed the room into his lavatory picking up a brush and began taming his hair into its usual styling.
“The one thing that gives me pause is having to tell my boss. I feel like its my duty to inform Admiral Walker of this sudden change, but I have this terrible guilt that I will have let him down by making such a rash decision, and while I don’t care so much about the consequences I still hate the idea of letting someone who’s come to trust me down. But its honestly time I started thinking not just about my job, and what were doing here in Starfleet and for the Federation and actually took some time to think about me and my future too.” He studied himself in the mirror for a long moment to make sure he was suitably presentable before heading back out into his quarters.
“A future that I’ve become abundantly more aware of given circumstances. Not just the war but with everything that has happened.” He stopped, an eyebrow rising. “I feel like a broken record always coming back to that thought, but its hard to deny where you came from.”
“I think I’ve finally come to grips with knowing that I have a mortality and honestly I still have years ahead of me god willing, but I don’t want to be alone.” He stopped behind one of the chairs resting his hands on the back, staring out at the stars slipping by outside the station and the occasional ship passing by.
“I don’t want to be alone,” he said, and it resonated within him causing some feelings to well up within him. He took a slow breath, trying to push the sudden emotions he was feeling at that statement away, and it dawned on him that this was a more profound thing than he realized. It took him a long moment before he continued.
“I don’t want to die alone. I want something out of this life more than just a job and a purpose. I want a family.” He chuckled. “Never thought I would say that again, or that it would be something in my path. Until Elianna and I talked last night I honestly didn’t think it was in the cards.” He paused studying a vessel as it passed by outside, deep scars in its hull. “Now maybe I haver that chance.” He smiled again. “I’ll accept whatever punishment comes my way, but I’m not giving this up. I lost what I thought was my one shot because of this job, I’ll be damned if I’ll let it happen again.” He nodded reassuringly to his own reflection in the windows.
“I do fear that this may set the wrong example when it does come out, which is another reason to get ahead of this and tell the Admiral. I’m not sure how Elianna will feel about it but were going to have to talk about it sooner rather than later. I’ve got to have a talk with Walker soon enough, I might as well rip that Band-Aid off as well. Then figure out how to break it to the crew, they will figure it out quick enough. Nothing stays secret on a ship let alone a station for long. End log!” he said and started for the door disappearing out into the corridor.

Mission 80-81 - Operation Seleyan Sun - Part 11-12-C A joint post by Elianna Kestran and Oliver Savage Stardate: 11807.01 - Later that day
“That stack is not getting any smaller!” Oliver thought to himself as he glanced between the two different piles of Padd’s adorning his desk. The one full of completed reports and day to day paperwork was dwarfed by the stack of things needing to be completed and as much as he would like to delegate some things just couldn’t be. He sighed as he glanced over the stack at the time hanging over the door to his room, which only exasperated the feeling of being a little buried. He was however relieved for a moment as the time rolled over signaling the end of his shift for the day.
He stood taking a moment to power down his desktop computer, and shut off the stream of information on one of his office monitors before crossing the room and exiting out into Operations. He could see that the next shift was already starting to filter in and take over for the current. He spotted Sully disappearing into a lift briefly. The two of them seemed to be passing like ships in the night lately it seemed. He was starting to get the feeling that Sully was trying to avoid him.
Oliver nodded to the night shift supervising officer as he too headed for the lift, reaching up he hit his communicator. “Savage to Doctor Kestran!” he said as he took his usual spot at the back of the lift leaning against the wall.
Hearing Oliver’s voice break the silence in her office brought a small smile to Elianna’s face, “What can I do for you Captain?” It felt odd for a moment, feeling so familiar but acting so formal. She cast a glance out the window of her office, wondering if it was obvious to her whole staff or if Emily had simply been that perceptive.
“I know we’re getting off shift, but I was hoping you might be willing to meet to discuss some coming personnel changes. Assuming you don’t have plans?” he asked as the lift took off to its first series of destinations.
“I don’t have plans. I think I could manage that. What did you have in mind?”
He paused for a moment realizing he had not thought that part through just yet. “Uh. How about…” he pondered that for a moment longer. “How about….”
She could hear the hesitation in his voice, and she understood it, this was new territory for them both. “How about you come by my quarters?”
“Okay, sure that works any particular time?” he asked, there was a hint of relief in his voice, but it was broadcast through his feelings pretty obviously.
“I’m just finishing up here actually, so I’ll probably be back there within twenty minutes or so.” She eyed the time and nodded to herself a bit at her estimate.
Oliver nodded to himself. “Alright see you then. Savage out!” he said and closed the channel. He glanced around noting the crowd had thinned a bit. “Central Core, Deck 52.” he said deciding to go by his quarters first.
Elianna suppressed a chuckle with a barely perceptible shake of her head. She finished with the last file she had been working on and turned off the computer. It had been a bit difficult not to let the events of the previous night dominate her thoughts, but she had managed to focus on work just the same. Just as she stood to leave, Vott entered the office with a padd in hand. “Drop it on the desk and I’ll get to it tomorrow,” he gave her a surprised look. It wasn’t like her to duck out of work right on time when someone needed something. She usually stayed well past the end of her shift, despite her staff’s protests. With an apologetic smile she explained, “I’ve got plans, sorry. Is it time sensitive?”
“No, I think it can wait until tomorrow morning.”
“Thanks Vott!” she patted his shoulder as she passed on her way out of the sickbay. He watched her leave with a thoughtful look before dropping the padd onto her desk as she requested.
Oliver stood in his quarters not far from the door a short time later, he blinked looking around the room realizing he had come here for something, and now completely forgot. He felt perplexed by his sudden forgetful nature, he was certain it was important but now couldn’t remember. “Okay Oliver, what are you forgetting?” he asked now walking through his quarters looking around. He absentmindedly tapped a padd in the palm of his hand as he paced the room. He paused staring at his reflection in the windows and smiled holding the padd up in his hands, waving at himself. “Wow…” he chuckled. “Pull your crap together!” he said to himself, slightly amused at his own distracted demeanor.
He exited his quarters heading back to the Turbolift. “Deck 7, Central Core, Upper Spire!”
The lift ride took a little time as people got on and off at various destinations as the lift ascended. It was one of those hazards of being on a space station with so many others. He arrived at his destination stepping off the lift heading down the hall to come to a stop outside Elianna’s quarters. He pressed the doorbell, and waited.
She had arrived at her quarters only to realize she really hadn’t allowed herself much time to get ready, but it hadn’t crossed her mind. She wouldn’t have been concerned about what she would wear before, she would have to be satisfied with still being in uniform now.
Elianna could sense him before he even rang. They had been close for so long that it was easy to identify his emotions from amongst the crowd of others, but she felt her heart leap a bit as she sensed so much more than before. The bell chimed and she crossed the room to open the door, greeting him with a happy smile, “Come on in,” she stepped back to let him inside.
He smiled as the doors parted and she greeted him. “Hey, how was your day?” he asked as he entered her quarters.
“It felt like it would never end,” she laughed, knowing it was ridiculous. It had been a long time since she felt like this, and it made her a bit self conscious, “How about yours?”
“Honestly about the same.” he said before holding out the padd. “I did actually have some incoming crew to pass on, and it was a great excuse to see you of course.”
She took the padd from him with a nod, “I assumed as much, I’ve never known you to lie. Do you need me to look at this now?”
“No, not at all. They won’t be arriving for a few weeks anyhow.” he regarded her for a moment. “But there is something I need to talk to you about. Something we should get out of the way I think.” he said moving over to the sitting area.
Elianna could sense some kind of worry now, and it made her nervous, but she simply nodded and followed him, setting the padd on the desk as she passed.
“It’s not as bad as it sounds I promise. It’s just something we should discuss.” He settled down onto the couch. “You probably know what this is about or maybe it just hasn’t come to mind yet. But you know me, things like this just pop out at me and I can see the implications so I tend to jump and act on them. It’s kind of what I do.”
She realized she was probably projecting her own emotions now to him too, so it shouldn’t have surprised her that he would try to be reassuring. She took the seat next to him on the couch, turning slightly towards him with a look somewhere between curiosity and concern, “What’s bothering you?”
He hesitated for a moment searching for the right words. “What we’re doing is kind of against the rules.” he said with a shrug deciding to put it plainly. “With that being said, I don’t really care.” he smiled, and chuckled even at the admission. “Yes it might be a little out of character for me, but its like I said the other night I think it’s time the galaxy gave us back something.”
Biting her bottom lip a bit at the mention of the rules she drew in a deep breath and nodded, “Okay…” She wasn’t sure what else to say just yet.
“We both know it won't stay secret for long, secrets don’t last long on Starships, let alone a station. Not coming out with it would set a bad example to the others. We’ve been fighting to maintain discipline and the need to follow the rules and we’re breaking one. I’m not by any means saying we should get on the Stationwide and broadcast this. If you’re okay with the idea I’d like to talk to Sully about it soon. He shouldn’t be blindsided by it.” he swallowed hard, “And I need to come clean to Admiral Walker.”
Elianna looked down at her hands resting in her lap and tried to calm the nerves that she felt rising up in her stomach. He was right, she knew he was right, but it suddenly hit her that this could be over before it started if things didn’t go well with the Admiral. The idea of that was upsetting. Looking back at him again she asked, “What will happen?”
He settled back against the back of the couch, and let out a sigh. “Honestly I don’t know. But what I do know is this, I’m not going to give this up. My hope is to reason with him and find a way to make it work. Accept whatever punishment if any that is reasonable and continue on. Either way, I’m willing to accept whatever happens.” he glanced down for a moment considering his words. “I’ve had a good career, and if it means I need to change my career path to keep something that I want so badly I have no reservations about doing so.” he said, there was no hesitation, and it was honest.
She leaned forward so she could look him full in the face. His words and the certainty he felt about his decision brought conflicting emotions up within her. She wanted to either kiss him or cry. Instead she spoke her mind, “I can’t let you give up your career for me, this is what you’ve wanted for as long as I’ve known you!”
He nodded. “I figured you might say something like that. But sometimes priorities change. I wanted both for the longest time and I almost had that. It got thrown out the airlock by Johnny’s Space Girlfriend. Didn’t think that it would honestly happen, or that I could honestly and truthfully tell someone that I loved them again.” he sighed. “I was hoping you might have some suggestions, because I realized while trying very hard to get my work done today that its not just my choice anymore too.”
It sent a thrill through her to hear him call it love. She knew what he felt, but it was different with humans, saying it seemed so much more real or meaningful to them. She closed her eyes, and leaned in against him, resting her head on his shoulder. When she finally spoke, her voice was quiet and almost timid, “I wish I did. You’re right, you should tell him. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
The tension he felt, that nervousness bled away almost instantly hearing her words. “I promise I won’t throw myself on my sword without us talking about it first.” he paused a moment considering something. “Do you want to be there?” he asked glancing down at her.
Nodding with her head still resting on his shoulder, she replied, “I’m as responsible as you are,” she lifted her head slightly to look up at him, “And it means just as much to me. If you don’t mind, that is…?”
“It would mean a lot to me to have you there. I don’t mind at all.” he smiled. “Is it too soon to say it?” he asked, an eyebrow arching. “I mean, saying those three words sometimes can scare people off and all.”
“I think we’ve been working on this for a long while,” she smiled now with a playful sparkle in her eye, “Besides, even if you don’t say it, you feel it. There’s not much hiding that anymore.”
“Maybe its just the human in me, but it just makes it that much more real to say it. And it just feels right.” his smile broadened. “I do love you, I know you can feel it but…”
She let out a light and easy laugh as she heard him echo her own earlier thoughts, and then quickly realized it might convey the wrong message. Her eyes widened a bit, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean… I just… you said what I was thinking and ... “ she shook her head lamely before meeting his gaze with an affectionate look and finishing with more certainty, “I love you too.”
He smiles again and then kisses her gently. “I should probably go.”
Her mouth found his again, stealing a second kiss. She had wanted to kiss him from the moment she opened the door. When she finally pulled back, she asked softly, “Do you have to?”
It took him a moment to respond, he was conflicted wanting to stay, but knowing it wasn't right. “I don’t want to, but I should until this is... “ he chuckled. “You’re making this difficult for me!”
With a slow nod and a small sigh she stood up and motioned to the door, “Well you better go before I change my mind then!” She smiled at him, knowing this was who he was and it was part of what she had come to love about him.
“Soon enough.” he said standing, pulling his uniform straight. “Good night Elianna.” he said as he headed for the door.
“Goodnight Oliver,” she replied, reining in the desire to try to stop him from leaving.

A joint post between Oliver Savage, Elianna Kestran, and Admiral Walker (As played by Cj) Stardate: 11807.02 Location: The office of Captain Oliver Savage
Oliver paced his office nervously, it was almost time and he knew it. He had been dreading this moment for the last several days. If he wasn't telegraphing his feelings with his nervous pacing, his emotions were a jumble of nervousness and uncertainty. He knew it was not going to be an easy conversation. But it had to happen.
He had sent off all the reports, sensor data, and the ships copy of duty logs for Starfleet to mull over, and he knew it would take time for a response. They would come calling to get answers. Why they went outside their orders and risked the Tempest, how things deteriorated as a result of their actions. Oliver felt a twinge of guilt as he remembered the image of the dead on the viewscreen. Those cut down by the True Federation captors on the live feed. If there was one ounce of satisfaction it was that torpedo. He had to respond in kind, he couldn’t just let it go. They were combatants and he took every precaution to ensure low collateral damage.
Then there was the subject of Sully, he still had not fully decided what to do with him. How to handle his behavior and what Oliver was sure was a break of some kind when he went off the cuff threatening to kill the crew that had surrendered. Oliver was so conflicted about how to handle this, if he had been younger and less experienced he might have found himself in Sully’s position. But he had to learn that it couldn’t happen again and that there are consequences to his actions. Were the deaths of those countless lives enough? He stopped to ponder that thought for a long moment.
Oliver nearly jumped out of his skin when the bell rang from the door. He took a sharp breath to steady himself. “Come in!” he said continuing to pace.
Entering the office, Elianna could sense how anxious he was. She crossed the room and took his hand and laced her fingers between his, “It’s going to be alright.” She gave him a reassuring smile.
He took a deep breath. “I know. It’s just a lot to think about. I’m more frightened at the response from our actions back at Valt than anything right now. I’m not sure how this is going to go.” he offered a half smile. “Thank you for being here.”
“I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”
He glanced over at the Chronometer above the door. “Shouldn’t be too much longer now.”
She took a deep breath to calm her own nerves and released his hand, “Should I sit or …?”
He shrugged. “Make yourself comfortable.” he said and continued to pace waiting for the inevitable. It didn't take long, the Admiral was usually pretty punctual.
Elianna hesitated for just a moment before settling down on the edge of a chair, unable to make herself much more comfortable than that at the moment. She just hoped it was the right decision for her to be here.
“Operations to Captain Savage you’ve got a subspace communication coming in from Admiral Walker at starfleet.” The familiar voice of Melody chimed over his communicator.
Oliver hit pressed his badge, “Put it through here Ensign, thank you!” he said and let out a slow steady breath to hopefully let some of his tension and stress go, he knew it wasn’t going to fully work but somehow having Elianna there was reassuring and helped level him. He offered her a reassuring smile for him just as much as her. The logo for Starfleet appeared and he waited and the Admiral’s face appeared on the monitor in front of the sitting area. “Hello Admiral Walker.” he said giving a nod.
“Captain Savage,” Walker greeted with nod. “I’ve gone over some of your reports from Valt. I suppose what they say is true: there’s no such thing as simple recon.”
Oliver nodded. “No, not under the circumstances. We were able to gather some pretty good intelligence from this mission but we did end up going outside of our orders and put ourselves in a good bit of risk. While some of this could have been avoided I feel like we did accomplish what we set out to do and then some.” he shifted uneasily leaning on the back of the couch in front of him.
Her eyebrow lifted slightly, thinking that was a promising start to the conversation, but not feeling much better about her presence. This was the part that she felt like she shouldn’t be here for, so she remained silent as they spoke.
Admiral Walker took a moment to massage his temples. He seemed exhausted, and not just in regards to the topic at hand.
“Tell me about Mr. Derringer,” he said once he looked back to the viewscreen. “Dr. Kestran. Do I need to worry about your XO executing prisoners of war?”
Elianna considered the question for a moment and answered slowly, “I don’t know, Sir.” She couldn’t honestly say yes or no, because she just didn’t know where Sully’s head was at right now. And that worried her. “I can only tell you that when he went over there, he had every intention of killing them, I don’t know what stopped him.”
“It’s very clear there is a problem, I’m meeting with him soon to discuss the situation. To be honest I’ve been trying to decide how to respond to this outside of counselling, because there needs to be a response. I can’t say that I didn’t have similar feelings but I think the difference in reaction comes from experience. It’s very clear that this got to him, and maybe he’s reached a breaking point where he’s struggling with his morals.” Oliver moved around and settled onto the couch himself. “This whole war, and the experience has got a lot of people turned upside down and inside out. Most of my people are not used to this sort of playing field and it’s frustrating. To see these people fighting…” he stopped searching for the word that fit but settling on something simple. “Dirty.. and we’re continuing to respond trying to keep our moral compass pointed the right direction.” he paused a moment. “What they did on that planet, and what they are doing is unforgivable.”
Oliver stood, and started pacing his frustration and anxiety over the situation was pretty clear. “He has to know that his actions contributed to the death’s of those people, but there is no telling if that wouldn’t have happened at another time, but we don’t have that luxury of finding out later.” he stopped looking back up at the screen. “He’s a good officer deep down Admiral, he has a lot to learn still. This may end up being a very hard lesson for him indeed.”
Martin stared silently for a long moment, his expression in stone as he mulled their words. Finally he sat back in his chair and sighed.
“Their crimes might be unforgivable, Captain Savage, but that doesn't justify vengeance,” he said. “But I understand the frustration. It might even seem naive to keep adhering to rules that Section 31 doesn't, but that's exactly how it starts. You start cutting corners out of supposed necessity, you tell yourself you have to do whatever it takes, that the ends justify the means.
“That's the horrible truth about Section 31, Oliver. They weren't caricatures of villainy. They were good people who thought there was a more efficient way to benefit the Federation, and that's all it took to start down this path. It's an easier path to follow than we might want to think, and it's a path Mr. Derringer is staring down right now.”
Elianna didn’t envy him. She agreed with his commitment to holding fast to the morals the Federation was founded upon, but the hard decisions didn’t rest on her shoulders. Elianna knew she didn’t have to explain to the families who lost their loved ones. It was that much harder on him, she was sure.
Oliver nodded sagely. “I’m trying very hard to keep Sully from slipping down that slippery slope. He’s a good officer, with so much potential but he keeps slipping further that direction. One moment and we seem to have him on the straight and narrow and he flips back the other way. I’m honestly at a loss for how to help him.” he said, there was a discernible hint of frustration in his voice.
Martin sighed heavily before taking a drink of something from a mug on his desk.
“I imagine this is difficult for all of you, but especially those of you who were in stasis for so many years. I certainly didn't help matters, shoving you all into the thick of it like that. Even so, not including Valt, you've all done an exemplary job at Odyssey. You took a difficult posting without complaint, Oliver, and I'm grateful.
“With the liberation of Deneva and Weytahn, the balance of power has shifted. You and your crew have more than earned a break. Take the time to keep working with Commander Derringer, see if you can get a handle on him. I'll leave his evaluation to you and Dr. Kestran before I recommend disciplinary action. Sound good?”
Oliver nodded. “That is fair, and I appreciate that sir.” he hesitated a moment, “There is another matter I’d like to talk to you about sir. It’s of a more personal nature.” he glanced over at Elianna. “In the interest of transparency, and to be frank, we’ve gained trust with you and have been building on our working relationship so I owe it to you to be open and completely honest.” he hesitated again and took a moment searching his thoughts for the right words. “Well it kind of just happened..” he stopped, blinking at his own words clearly nervous about the subject. “Umm... “ he hesitated again. “Elianna and I are seeing one another. I know it’s generally against the rules but...we’ve talked about it, and wanted to tell you together. I realize this may cause a problem, and we’re willing to discuss any repercussions there might be. But I felt that we should let you know sooner rather than later.”
Martin stared blankly for a long moment before giving a tired chuckle. He rubbed his hands over his face before looking to Savage.
“Frankly, Captain, I don't have the time or energy to worry about fraternization,” he explained. “Consider that particular rule unenforced for the time being. Maybe don't tell everybody that, but we all have bigger concerns. Take your happiness where you can get it.”
Oliver nodded, a little confused by the response but it quickly changed to relief. “Thank you sir. Is there anything else we can do for you?”
Relief washed over her at his reply. She gave Admiral Walker a grateful smile as she considered his last statement.
“Keep Mr. Derringer on a leash, and try to learn from what went wrong at Valt,” said Martin. “Other than that, keep up the good work. Walker out.”
Oliver waited as the transmission ended replaced by the Starfleet Seal, then faded to black. He felt as if the weight of the world suddenly lifted off of him. “That…” he blinked still staring at the screen. “Did that just happen?” He looked over at Elianna.
“It’s not the same Starfleet as it was when we joined. War always changes things,” she replied thoughtfully before turning a small smile back to him. “I suppose we should just be grateful and hope that when the war ends it won’t change again.”
Oliver nodded. “By then it kind of what is it is I would think but we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we get there.” he said.
“Now all that’s left is to tell Sully. Speaking of, I know this isn’t an ideal situation, but you know Sully needs to see a Counselor...”
“I know.” He sighed deeply. “Sully kind of has me between a rock and a hard place on this. It’s time I had a chat with him.”
“I imagine he's dealing with a lot of guilt after seeing what we saw. Anyone in his situation would need to see a Counselor. Don’t think of this as an uncomfortable duty, it’s because you’re, we’re, concerned. We can approach it medically if you want. I can require it as his doctor if it’s simpler?” She knew what he would say but thought she should at least offer.
He smiled. “While I appreciate the offer, its something that I should do. He may not like it up front but maybe down the line he will thank me. I’ve been trying to figure out what if anything should come as far as punishment and I’ve been torn. Though I think I might let him decide. Put it in his hands and see what punishment he would give his first officer if he were Captain. Maybe empower him a little in a way.”
With a small nod, Elianna stood and somewhat nervously tucked her hair behind her ear. “I suppose I should go and leave you to it then…” though she didn’t seem excited to leave all that quickly.
“Dinner later?” He asked walking over to his desk picking up a cloth wrapped bottle and a couple of glasses.
“I’d like that very much,” she felt her nerves slip away as she realized the part they had to worry about was past.
“See you then.” he said as he headed for the door. He still felt a bit of trepidation about the coming conversation but he certainly felt like the hardest part was behind him.
