Hello all! Our very first joint-arc, between the Chiron and Zorya, is underway, and that means we need a place to summarize events so everyone can be on the same page. Thus, this thread right here!
A group identifying themselves as the Maquis has seized the USS Voltaire, a recently uprated Sovereign-class vessel, after she struck a subspace mine and members of her crew faked a warp core breach, causing most of the ship's personnel to evacuate. This brazen theft occurs mere hours after Starfleet begins a renewed offensive against Section 31, dubbed Operation Seleyan Sun. As a result, Starfleet's resources are stretched thin, and they have turned to two of their most storied crews to try and recover the lost ship.
Starfleet Intelligence has been aware of this group for some time, and have taken steps to try and identify their vessels. A team that includes former Bremen Chief Engineer Tony Adalberto managed to discover the identity of one such vessel: The SS Granuaile, a civilian frighter commanded by Niamh Danann, Tony's former lover, who also has an intimate connection with Captain Sumner of the Chiron. Suffice to say, their reunion should be... interesting.
Meanwhile, the Zorya has taken on a new helmsman, who just happens to be the nephew of Jonathan Rome, a man that several Zorya officers served with directly, not to mention Danann's past as a member of the Hyperion. The young man somewhat resents the attention he's received due to this relation, and he finds himself immediately thrust into the mess in the Alpha Quadrant, hunting down a stolen vessel. Perhaps this will take some of the attention off his shoulders, and provide an opportunity to make a name for himself. The same can be said for the ship's Captain, Jiang Zhihao, who has large shoes to fill as the commander of this particular crew.
Time is of the essence. The Voltaire is a powerful vessel, and cannot be allowed to remain in the hands of a rogue organization, especially as tensions with the Cardassians reach the boiling point.
I've made a rough map for illustrative purposes:
The green circle is where the Voltaire was ambushed, near the Gamma 7 Outpost.
The blue oval is where the Zorya is stationed.
The red oval is where the Chiron is stationed.
The yellow circle is the approximate location of the Zeta Nine system.
Week One: A Tale of Two Ships
USS Zorya: The Zorya was ordered to retrieve the personnel tricked into evacuating the USS Voltaire, who ended up in and around the Fahleena system. Among them is Captain Ishihara, the rookie CO of the Voltaire, who suffered an ankle fracture during the explosion that brought the Voltaire out of warp. The Zorya's new science officer, Ensign T'ali has begun the search for any additional mines that might be in the area as the Zorya looks to begin the hunt for the Voltaire in earnest.
USS Chiron: The Chiron has been ordered to the Granuaile's last known location, Zeta Nine, located in the Cardassian DMZ. Primarily populated by colonists displaced following the use of biogenic weapons by a Starfleet officer, the planet has unique health issues to deal with and rely upon shipments of specialized medicine from the Federation. With a war on one front and another two threatening to erupt in the Alpha Quadrant, those shipments have been disrupted, and the planet has turned to the Maquis for help. An SFI team that included Tony Adalberto tracked such a shipment delivered by the Granuaile, providing a lead to potentially learn more about the current Maquis organization, and also potentially locate whoever took the Voltaire.
This, of course, is fraught with peril, as the Granuaile is commanded by someone intimately attach to both Adalberto and Captain Sumner. What happens if and when the Chiron finds the Granuaile is anyone's guess.
