TO: Captain Sara Sumner, Commanding Officer USS Chiron
FROM: Admiral Cerridwyn Rice, Starfleet Command
SUBJECT: Mission Orders 11804.12
Captain,
News may already have hit you regarding the USS Voltaire. The newly upgraded Sovereign-class vessel was ambushed in a mine field along the Cardassian DMZ near Fahleena, and stolen. A group calling themselves the Maquis have taken credit for the act. This is no petty crime. The Maquis have demonstrated the lengths they are willing to go, and Starfleet will not idly sit by.
Starfleet Intelligence has discovered the identity of a ship believed to be run by the Maquis - the SS Granuaile. We don´t know much about the Granuaile other than it is an independent cargo runner. Our dossier on them is minimal and they have not been connected to any high profile crimes worthy of Starfleet´s attention. Until now.
This may be our starting point to uncovering the current Maquis situation in more detail, gather more intelligence, as well as send a strong message that these terrorist acts will not be tolerated. Your task is to track down the Granuaile - it's last known position was at Zeta Nine, located within the DMZ. As per the existing treaty, you'll be required to contact the Cardassians before entering the DMZ; it is likely a Cardassian vessel would need to be present. To be clear, you are not to enter the DMZ if by doing so it would jeopardise or break the terms of the treaty.
Before you depart, you'll be taking on one more crewmember. Starfleet Intelligence is sending a Mr. Anthony Adalderto. I believe you already know him. As he is very familiar with the operation that uncovered the identity of the Granuaile, he will be joining you in order to assist in tracking it down.
This is something of a precarious situation, Captain and isn't a time for any brash actions. Good luck.
Admiral Cerridwyn Rice

Mission Brief SD 11804.12
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
Alright everyone, we're diving right back into the thick of it. We're heading into the DMZ, so that means eyes sharp for any Vaad'waur incursions. We will be contacting the Cardassian Central Command, and it's highly likely we will find ourselves in proximity to a Cardassian vessel in the very near future.
I fully understand any negative feelings towards the Cardassians at the moment. They're responsible for our little field trip. They're responsible for three months of hardship for us, and fear and pain for our loved ones. For now, you will need to put those feelings aside. It's imperative we locate the Granuaile as quickly as possible, and we can't do that unless we lawfully enter the DMZ.
In addition, you've likely seen that we'll be hosting a VIP from SFI, one most of us are familiar with. I know we all likely have words for him, but those will have to wait as well. He is here to help us locate the Granuaile, which will hopefully help us locate the Voltaire, and learn more about this apparent resurrection of the Maquis.
XO: Raq, please direct Mr. Adalberto to my ready room immediately upon his boarding. While he and I discuss the situation, get us underway to Zeta Nine and the DMZ.
CTO: Keep our weapons cold, Marcus. If the worst comes to pass, our first and only resort is to vacate the DMZ immediately. We will not be the spark that ignites this particular powder keg.
OPS: Keep a line open to Starfleet Command for the duration. If things go south, I want them to know immediately. Make sure we have all necessary supplies before we leave, and work with Raqiin to optimize the duty roster.
CSO: When we get to Zeta Nine, we're gonna need a way to track down these supplies the Granuaile apparently stole. I want to verify the intel before we potentially spend more time in the DMZ.
CMO: Doctor Evans, I've looked a bit into the history of Zeta Nine regarding the colonists exposure to biogenic weapons. I'm sending you a list of the supplies apparently stolen. I'd like to verify whether the stolen materials would be used to treat those conditions.
NAV: I know it's not that far, but let's go ahead and QSD to within half a light year of the DMZ. Every hour could be precious.
Like riding a bike. Maybe. Let's hope.
That is all.

Mission Brief SD 11804.19
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
We're on approach to Zeta Nine. For those of you who don't know, a large portion of Zeta Nine's populace was displaced from Solosos III almost 25 years ago after that planet's atmosphere was filled with trilithium resin, rendering it uninhabitable to human life. While most were able to evacuate in time, a significant number of civilians suffered long-term genetic effects from that exposure. They and their descendants require specialized treatment.
Regrettably, this exposure to trilithium resin was an intentional act by a Starfleet Captain.
Hopefully, we'll be able to keep our contact with the general population to Zeta Nine to a minimum, but I would still expect some potential resentment by any we encounter. I don't expect a Cardassian vessel will make them any friendlier, so please keep this in mind when dealing with anyone from the planet.
XO: While we're here, I want to verify the delivery of the stolen medical supplies. Mr. Adalberto should be able to help with that.
CTO: I mean it, Marcus - weapons cold. Divert power to the shields if you need to, but we'll not be exchanging fire with this Cardassian vessel.
OPS: Please get in touch with Zeta Nine's planetary operations and request any information they have as to the status or whereabouts of the SS Granuaile. They may be terse, so be patient, but it's imperative we get that information.
CSO: See if you can find any kind of ion trail or residual warp signature that might belong to the Granuaile. If Zeta Nine is unwilling to share information, we may need to rely on physical evidence of their passing.
CMO: I'd like you to get in touch with Zeta Nine's medical authorities and find out what you can about the current status of the affected inhabitants. Find out if there's anything they need, and if we have anything we can spare to help, please make it available. A little goodwill could go a long way in repairing this world's relationship with the Federation.
NAV: Have multiple escape vectors prepared should the worst come to pass.
That is all.

Mission Brief SD 11804.26
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
Hopefully we've gotten what we need to continue the search for the Granuaile. It's time to decide how to proceed, and whether we can leave the DMZ.
XO/CMO/SFI: Please give me a summary of your findings regarding the stolen supplies and how they were distributed.
CTO: Keep an eye on our counterpart's comm activity. Let me know if you see anything suspicious.
OPS: Let me know what you've determined from what information Zeta Nine gave us. Do we know where the Granuaile went next? How long ago did they leave?
CSO: Work with Rebecca on determining where the Granuaile might have gone.
NAV: Prepare to leave orbit.
That is all.

Mission Brief SD 11805.03
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
Alright everyone, we're ass-deep in the Badlands hunting a fugitive Maquis freighter, and there might be a stolen, uprated Sovvie around as well. So... stay sharp? Eyes peeled? Another glorious day on the Chiron.
XO/CSO/SFI: Work together on finding a way to effectively track the Granuaile. There's no idea too crazy.
CTO: Yellow Alert. If we see any sign of the Voltaire, divert power to the shields. Fighting her is a last resort.
OPS: See if you can't find any comm activity out in that mess.
NAV: Have some escape vectors plotted in case the Voltaire shows up. Wait for my order to execute.
CMO: I'm hopeful that the Granuaile, if cornered, will surrender, but be prepared for casualties on either side if that ends up not being the case.
That is all.

Mission Brief SD 11805.10 TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303 All non-essential personnel are confined to quarters effective immediately. All sensitive areas of the ship are to be guarded and access restricted. XO/SFI: We need to find this saboteur as soon as possible. We're in the exact wrong place to have this problem. CTO: Red Alert. Make your personnel available to Commander sh'Hruvek and Commander Adalberto for the investigation. Keep an eye out for incoming ships. OPS: Monitor any comm frequencies in the area. If there are ships out there coordinating an ambush, we need to know. I know it's a tall order, but we need to cover all the bases. NAV: Plot the fastest available route out of the Badlands. CMO: Be prepared for casualties in case this is an ambush.
ENG: Ensign Diangelo, please analyze the sabotaged component and look through sensor logs to see how it was altered and who might be responsible.
That is all. Captain Sara Sumner

Mission Brief SD 11805.17
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
Unfortunately, we can no longer afford to delay. We'll remain in lockdown until such time as the saboteurs are discovered, but we're gonna have to go back into the Badlands. Fortunately we have some back up this time around.
XO: We're gonna have to set up some kind of pared down duty rotation. I don't want anyone near anything vital who hasn't been with us at least six months. I'm not happy about this order, but it's a must.
SFI: Keep looking.
CTO: Maintain Red Alert, and continue to secure sensitive areas of the ship in accordance with the six-month thing.
OPS/CSO: Continue analyzing those transmissions. We have to be able to find at least a direction to look.
NAV: Coordinate our flight paths with the Zorya to try and maximize our sensor coverage.
CMO: I understand you're caring for some of the Zorya crew. They're in good hands.
ENG: Please report to the bridge.
That is all.

Mission Brief SD 11805.30
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
The Voltaire has struck again, this time a civilian cargo run. Time is running out - we must find and neutralize the Voltaire.
XO: Coordinate with the Zorya and Starfleet Command. The QSD should be ready, so the moment we have a search area, we jump.
SFI/CTO: We have received a coded intraship comm frequency used by Maquis infiltrators. This should help us locate our saboteur, which we need to do before we engage the Voltaire.
OPS: Help with coordinating with the other ships in the area. In addition, get me a line to Starfleet Command.
NAV: Prepare to engage the QSD.
CMO: Prepare for casualties. In addition, we have a guest in the Brig who may need sedation. Don't do it yet, but have something ready.
ENG: I estimate maybe three hours or so before we get to the area the Voltaire should be lurking. I want as thorough of a shipwide diagnostic as we can get in that time. If any other system is compromised, we need to find a fix in a hurry.
That is all. Stay sharp.

Mission Brief SD 11806.06
TO: Senior Staff, USS Chiron NCC-77303 FROM: Captain Sara Sumner, CO USS Chiron NCC-77303
We now have the means to track the Voltaire. She's become a danger to civilian shipping - we can't let her get away. In addition, Commander sh'Hruvek has been cleared to my satisfaction, and will be resuming her duties immediately.
XO: I'm fully expecting a fight. Be prepared to issue maneuvering and damage control orders.
CTO: Of the battlegroup, we have the least overall firepower, so get creative with your shot selection. Assuming there are drones, making focus on those. Otherwise, target the Voltaire's weapons and shields.
SFI: If you know any way to try and compromise the Voltiare's systems, that might be a significant advantage. Alternatively, I'm sure they could use a hand in Engineering.
CSO: Run ECM, Mr. Hamlet. See if you can disrupt whatever's controlling those drones, or their targeting sensors, or something to that effect.
OPS: Start monitoring that comm frequency I just gave you, and coordinate with the other ships. Hopefully we'll be able to triangulate the Voltaire's signal.
NAV: We're both heading back into the Badlands, and you'll need to prepare for evasive maneuvers. Stay sharp, Ensign.
CMO: I'm sorry to keep saying this, but prepare for casualties.
ENG: Prepare for damage control.
Everyone keep your eyes peeled. We still have one or more saboteurs on board, and we're heading into murky waters. Fortunately, we have backup. We'll get through this. Just focus on your job, and we'll make it through.
That is all.
