Ladies, Gents, and Enbies,
It is my solemn duty to inform you that it has been yet another year since we started STAB! WE DID IT! AGAIN!
I'm not gonna say it feels like we just had an anniversary, but it does only feel like six months, tops. Bananas! It probably feels like it went by so fast because so much stuff happened. The Discord server has blown up, we've had several events, we had our first joint-arc - just nonstop bananery!
At the same time, I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to. Obviously, losing Andrew sucked. I've spent a lot of this year in a low-grade panic about the game because I wasn't sure what to do, and my self-confidence is generally fledgling at best. Even so, I think it's safe to say that STAB is stronger than ever, and it's largely thanks to, well, everybody.
First and foremost, I'm thankful for Aoibhe. Not only did she step up and take over the Zorya on short notice, but she's also taken the time to reach out to a lot of our old players, bringing in Tom and Tekopo and Chris E. She's an endless source of encouragement and feedback, and I really wouldn't have been able to keep my footing without her.
I'm deeply appreciative of Einar's continued contribution, as well. Like Aoibhe, he's always available for feedback despite his busy schedule, and his continued investment means the world to me.
I also want to thank Annie, and not just because she's been willing to give GDing a try on the Chiron. She's been a tremendous help when it comes to the community aspect of the game, and I really feel like a lot of the success of the Discord server is due to her building bridges with other players, especially when it's been harder for me to do so because of my various issues.
Tom has been a force of nature since joining us. He put together a website concept for us over a weekend, and he set up our FNN Twitter bot even as he was building an interactive, zoomable map. I'm super excited to see how that all progresses, and I honestly believe that, once we're ready to launch the site, STAB will flourish even more as a result.
Of course, there wouldn't be any STAB if it weren't for all of you. I can't tell you how much it means to me, how gratifying it is, to see each and every one of you show up every week to play with us. That you continue to engage takes the energy from my self-doubt, and this game continues to be one of my biggest sources of strength as a result, and none of my fancy words can really express how big that is. You people have changed and continue to change my life, and you're all lovely and wonderful for it.
One of my biggest concerns this year has been that I haven't been doing enough to help you all tell your stories. I don't know how accurate that fear is, but I want to take the time to tell you all that this is your game. It doesn't matter how much fluff I write - STAB would not be the dynamic and exciting world that it is without you.
If you ever have any ideas for something you want to explore with your character, please let your GD know, and we will gladly work with you on ways to try and incorporate that idea - to enable your storytelling. This game is for you, and I want to make sure you all know that.
Thank you all, once again. Every ounce of energy and effort I put into this game is worth it because of you. Thank you so much for two crazy-ass years, and here's to many more!
- CJ
PS - As is now tradition, if you have any thoughts you'd like to share, feel free to leave a reply below! It's a party - pump up the jams!
