Mission 96 – “Homefront” - Part 6
Sim Date: November 24, 2018 Attendance: CJ – Game Director (GD) Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Lieutenant Naomi Idaris – Chief of Security (SEC) Ensign Melody Wythe - Operations Officer (OPS) Leave of Absence:Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Cleveland – Chief Tactical Officer (CTO) Lieutenant Junior Grade Cameron Corcoran – Science Officer Open PositionsUnassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used:Vice Admiral Hobi – Starfleet Command Daimon Hoga – Captain of the “Neco’s Bounty” OOC & Pre-Sim Information: Story’s moving right along, nothing new to report at this time. Since there was no time Lapse between the next sim and the last I’ll be doing a quick recap of what happened in the last sim. November 17thThe bridge crew discussed the findings we came back with and what information was found on the Data Stick we were given. Upon Further investigation Ensign Wythe discovered a video in which was an introduction to the group that is fronting what appears to be a coming labor strike or dispute of some kind. It went on to detail that the conditions and the way they are treated is not as sunshine and happiness that our crew has essentially seen on the surface. Its starting to look like there is a darker side to this resort world that is kept well hidden. Oliver spoke with Admiral Hobi about what we’ve found and revealed that it was known that these conditions were present previously but since Starfleet does not interfere with local politics as long as they do not violate federation laws we don’t interfere. Which she made very clear were our standing orders. Not to interfere with planetary politics just to observe and report back to her. Sully & Elianna beamed back down for his second meeting with the Zedul Dealer down on the planet, the meeting was brief but they were given tray’s that provided some additional information which we have yet to decode. Sully & Elianna are the only personnel at this time that are on the surface of the planet, everyone else is still on the ship. Though we have NPC’s doing shore leave rotation to keep up appearances. November 24Sully & Elianna have begun trying to track down the location of this up and coming meeting that is about to occur on the planet surface regarding this Labor Dispute we’ve found out about. The Data Rod contained an explanation of what is going on, encouraging like minded individuals whom are tired of the status quo to show up at the meeting whom have been provided this information. The Tempest was contacted by a Ferengi Captain by the name of Hoga, they made some inquiries about our stay, and then pressed for information regarding our negotiations with the Zibalians. More specifically asking why we were seeking here what we could most certainly seek with them. In Intriguing prospect to say the least. I had Melody Wythe take a closer look at the data rod, trying to find out its origin, the origin of its code and so on. Just to follow that lead to its final conclusion to make sure there is nothing more to be garnered from the device. Meanwhile on the surface of the planet Sully and Elianna have worked their way into the area of a warehouse which they have made their way into despite no end of trouble. Sully kind of went off on his own as a distraction allowing Elianna to slip in behind them. Lieutenant Noemi Idaris is going to try slipping into the populace as one of the locals to see what she can find out from her angle. She seems to feel that going in undercover might give her some more creditability than her usual Starfleet Appearance, so I’ve authorized her to get with Sickbay about a make over and to proceed how she deems fit. Eventually they meet up and walk into the warehouse. Sully announces his presence, and after some hurried conversation in the distance the sound of transporter beams filled the air. This is about where we left off, with no Lapse. USS Tempest StatusAlert Status: Starbase Odyssey StatusAlert Status:

Notable NPC’s Used: Ruan – Minister of Customs Enforcement for Zalbania Hek – Ferengi Extremist Commander Fredericks – USS Cantazaro USS Cantazaro Daimon Hoga – Special Agent
OOC & Pre-Sim Information: Welcome back everyone. Hope you enjoyed the break. New Storyline is incoming. We’ve wrapped our last.
Stardate: 11906.02 Location: Odyssey Station, Officer of Captain Oliver Savage
“Captains log, Stardate 11906.02. We’ve returned from our mission to the Theta Zibal System, I would say that it was mostly a success though I fear we may have stalled out the talks between the Federation and their government. Not exactly the mission outcome I think we were hoping for, but it might have been for the better.” He slowly stands walking over to the large screen showing some tactical data. “During our mission to Observe and Report we did uncover a plot by Ferengi Extremist trying to cause financial discord on the planet and the possibility of Government Corruption. Its an internal affair and while they are not technically a federation world I guess the Federation will have to reconsider their association in that market. The plot was thwarted but not before my first officer was kidnapped and we had to mount a rescue.”
He paused a moment watching some animation on the screen which seemed to depict ship movements in the sector an eyebrow raised. “We were able to recover him without injury. I’m told he did very well and handled himself to the point where he was nearly already free before our people got to him. Just goes to prove that he is a very capable officer especially in dire situations. Never really doubted that.” He shrugged and took a drink from the mug suspended in his hand.
“We’ve returned to the station now and have debriefed and are awaiting our next task. End log!” he said, and the image faded.
Stardate: 11906.11 Location: Odyssey Station, Quarters of Captain Oliver Savage
As the camera feed faded into life, Oliver sat at his desk in his quarters. He looked as though he had been woken from sleep. He sat holding a padd, he seemed to be staring at it trying to decide to throw it, or just accept it. He shook his head before finally speaking. “Looks like our Orders for our next task have come in, once again it appears were being sidelined. Guess that’s to be expected when you have so much negative press.” He rubbed at the sleep in his eyes trying to will it to go away long enough to finish this short log entry.
“We’ve been asked to help perform a Colony Survey, at a site that has already previously been colonized.” He let that hang in the air for a moment before continuing, it was almost as if he didn’t believe it himself. “Quadra Sigma III.”
He studied the information on the Padd for a moment longer. “It was inhabited last in 2364, there was a mining Colony on the planet and as a result of a methane like gas explosion the colony was evacuated. By the Enterprise D I might add. And has sat unattended for some time. They would like to repopulate the world, so they want us to go out and take a look and make sure its still viable.”
“So, we’ll leave in the morning and make our way to Sigma III and see what we can find out. I’ve sent a notice to the Tempest Crew to report aboard first thing in the morning and we’ll get underway. End log!’
Stardate: 11906.11 Location: Odyssey Station, Quarters of Captain Oliver Savage
Oliver tossed the Padd onto the desk with a certain level of disdain, it was apparent he wasn’t happy with the order’s they had received but he remained professional for his log, but now he had to vent. “Personal Log, Stardate 11906.11. It seems our curse continues to follow us. Our actions and negative publicity have put us in fleets line of sight, and they are showing us that they wont put us in a place where we can do any more damage by sending us on menial missions. This Colony Survey mission is a load of crap, its just another way to keep us busy and out of the path of progress. “
He took a deep breath and let it out. “Guess we’ve kind of asked for that. We’ve not exactly been functioning as a model crew. Far from it, but we do get the job done. But how long will that last, how long will fleet put up with our quirky nature. With our dysfunctional crew. I feel like things are getting better, but that’s usually what happens and then everything is turned upside down.
“A colony survey…” he let out another long-exasperated breath. “We could be of much better use doing many other things, but a Colony survey… Damn it..” he stood and shut down his computer system and headed for his bedroom. “End log!” he knew morning was just around the corner so at least a few more hours of sleep would be best.

Stardate: 11901.12 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Ready Room Oliver stood staring out of the window looking aft at the swirling colors of the Quantum Slip Stream effect as the ship shot towards its destination at Quadra Sigma System. “Captains Log Stardate 11901.12, Supplemental. We began our trek not long ago heading for the Quadra Sigma system, shortly after departing Odyssey Station we received an automated distress call from a Civilian vessel its origin has me curious. Strangely enough its coming from our intended destination.” He shifts slightly his focus still on the swirling of colors outside. “Ah, for the record I’ve discussed my relationship with Elianna with Sully. While I had not intended on it being public it ended up being so. Probably for the best considering it would have come out as rumor and who knows how that would have played out. Rather it be open and known that it’s happening. To that end brings me to my next thing.” He paused a moment. “Computer, my access to Lieutenant Commander Elianna Kestran’s file is to be suspended unless released by a member of Starfleet Command.” He waited and listened to the computer go through a series of beeps. “Access Restricted.” The computers voice called out. “That should resolve and absolve me of the ability to play any kind of favoritism towards Elianna for the time being. Its only fair. Sully now knows he’s solely responsible for her review and disciplinary actions.” He shrugs to himself mostly. “Time to get back to it, we should be arriving soon so I should be on the bridge. End log!” he said and strolled towards the door as the camera image faded. USS Tempest NCC-1852-A Intra-ship Messaging SystemSEND TO: All Departments FROM: Captain Oliver A. Thanks again everyone for keeping her going! I’m very happy to nearly be crossing that threshold. You make this happen, and it is much appreciated. Thank you to all of you who show up and play your part. Thank you especially to CJ for helping keep the dream alive and putting up with our quirky crew. Stardate: 11901.19 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A Since we are only sitting at a 15 minute gap I’m just putting a brief overview of what happened last sim here tonight, here is what happened last time on the Tempest: The Tempest Entered the Quadra Sigman star system emerging from Quantum Slip Stream. We continue to pick up the automated distress call. As we oriented ourselves to the system Ms. Wythe and Idaris were able to pin point the location of the destress call. It appears to be coming from a Civilian vessel in Orbit of our intended destination of our Colony Survey. An unexpected discovery to say the least. We closed with the ship detecting minimal power readings on board the vessel, and a grizzly sight a body tethered to the vessel in an EVA Suit. Unfortunately our hopes of finding someone alive in that moment were dashed as it was determined no life signs were detected in the suit. We had the victim beamed to sickbay in quarantine where the good Doctor Kestran is conducting an investigation in to the death of occupant. We opted to go ahead and send an away team lead by Commander Derringer who has taken Lieutenant Idaris and one of her Security Team’s aboard to investigate the ship. Upon closer inspection of the vessel we detected what appears to be damage caused by Forced Tetreyon Beam damage. A common weapon employed by the Tzenkethi and Tholians but not limited to them. Since Starfleet has been seeing some activity from both it’s a startling revelation. The away Team beamed aboard to find bodies strewn about the ship, very badly damaged in whatever altercation took place on board. While exploring the ship they found a specific body which had a message badly written in the blood of the victim in Orion. Sully and team have attempted to reach out to any possible survivors to attempt to parlay with them to avoid any further conflict. They continue to search the vessel. In order to ensure there are not any vessels laying in wait and to continue their survey mission, Oliver had a Planetary Survey Probe sent down to the original colony site, and another general probe around the planet specifically over the poles to try and spot any potential interlopers still remaining in the system perhaps trying to hide in the polar magnetic field, or on the far side of the planet. That is about where we left off, tonight we continue our mission. USS Tempest StatusAlert StatusStarbase Odyssey StatusAlert Status:

Last week marked our 100th Session, congratulations on making it to 100 Episodes, Sessions, whatever you want to call it! Thanks for continuing to show up and contribute to the story. As we only had a short lapse in time between our last session and this one coming up, here is another update of what happened. January 19th, 2019 - Recap The Tempest Entered the Quadra Sigman star system emerging from Quantum Slip Stream. February 2nd 2019 – RecapThe crew continues to explore the Civilian vessel, Sully and his team of security guards arrive at the command deck to find a blood bath. They find 4 bodies on the bridge which have been cut to pieces and a Mysterious cloak that creates a cloaking field. Rather crude but effective if one is standing still. Upon further investigation they are able to access the bridge logs where they are able to view the last moments of the crew on the bridge. The doctor arrives on the bridge to reveal the identify of the floater, a Raymond Fuller. A civilian from Axanar, with a rather lengthy criminal record but nothing out of the ordinary. Ms. Wythe finds more information on the wreckage on the surface, it appears to be standard Duranium/Tritanium hull, but without a closer look we cannot tell much. Further investigation revealed a power source on the surface at a mine near the wreckage site. We are however unable to pick up anything else from the location. After a brief discussion between Oliver and Sully they decide the away teams next stop will be the planet surface, and Sully’s intention is to just take the team he has. It was also determined based on the video that the Orion woman who was wearing the Cloak of invisibility is the one who activated the distress call. We left with Sully and Company on his way to the Transporter room to beam down to the planet Surface. That is essentially where we left off last. Stardate: 11916.02 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A Oliver shifted in his chair, a padd in his hand as he read over the recent reports on the status of the captives that Sully, Idaris, and their security team recovered from the planet surface. “Captain’s log Stardate 11916.02, Supplemental.” He glanced up from the Padd for a moment before continuing. “After exploring the Derelict civilian spacecraft in orbit, the away team beamed to the planet surface to investigate an anomalous power reading near one of the mines on the planet surface. While approaching the area somewhat cautiously the away team encountered those in the mine and through some shall we say interesting negotiation tactics I’m told the away team was able to coax the people hiding there out. We’ve since recovered them and they have been undergoing medical checks to ensure they are okay.” He paused a moment glancing back down to the Padd in his hands. “Medical has reported that the people brought back up mostly are suffering from bumps, bruises, and some malnutrition so they are taking the steps necessary to get them comfortable. I’ve ordered Noemi to assign them temporary quarters once they are released by the good doctor. We’ll decide what to do with them and the derelict vessel soon. We still have a survey mission to conduct and I see no reason not to move forward with that.” He shifted. “Still need to send off an update on our status and findings just to keep them apprised of our situation here. “There are still a lot of unanswered questions, such as who the Orion woman is who helped these people escape from the Orion Syndicate element on the ship. Was this a rival hit by another group, and she had the compassion to see that they were safely recovered instead of taking them to her own people. Or is there something else at play here. It’s hard to say since we have little information to go on. I believe we should consider continuing to investigate and see what else we can find aboard that vessel it may contain valuable intelligence that Starfleet Intelligence and Security may be able to use to help slow the recent rise in pirate activity. I intend on putting Lieutenant Idaris on that task, while Sully and other teams make planetfall and start our survey. Oliver lets out a sigh. “What has the galaxy come to?” he slowly leaned back into his chair. “I has a few moments and caught an editorial from the Federation News Network talking about the Cardassians, Tholians, and the Breen pulling together a Pact to help police the galaxy because apparently Starfleet has dropped the ball, touting our warmongering as a direct cause of the current unrest with pirate activities and the brazen actions of other races like the Tzenkethi and the Breen.” He shakes his head. “The Bok’Nor Pact…” he lays the Padd that was in his hands on the desk in front of him. “This does not feel right at all. All three of those species have a history of violence, towards each other, and towards the Federation in general. This could be very good or very dangerous. But right now, the galaxy could use a bit of order, and they are right with Starfleet and the Federation embroiled in this conflict and still recovering from others we can use all the help we can get.” He shrugs, “We will see what comes of it. End log” USS Tempest NCC-1852-A Intra-ship Messaging SystemSEND TO: All Departments FROM: Captain Oliver A. We’ve got science teams scouring over all the data we’ve collected in the last hour and thus far it seems like a plausible place to return a colony. I’m actually thus far unsure why they were pulled out entirely to begin with.” He shifted in his chair. “While I get safety was a concern at the time if the last teams here would have continued with a survey, they would have seen that the relative stability was returned to the area of the original colony after the original accident.” He took a moment to take a drink from his usual mug. “We’ve taken the Orion Syndicate prisoners aboard the ship, medical has been clearing them over the course of the last hour and we’ve been sending them to get food while the quartermaster begins the tedious task of putting them in guest quarters that will accommodate them. Last I heard most were just minor injuries and they needed a good meal, liquids and sleep.” He shifted in his chair again. “There is the matter of the recently detected energy reading from the second moon of Quadra Sigma Two which we will need to investigate. Thus far its stayed constant, but I’m leery about leaving our people unprotected here at the planet given our circumstances however the science department informed me that the rest of the work needed to be completed at this point can be done by probes. To that end we’ve spent the last half hour launching probes and setting up a communications link here in orbit. Once we’ve got all that up and running, we’ll be heading to check out that signal. Kindest Regards, Captain Savage, Oliver A. USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Odyssey Station Officer Commanding As there is no Lapse between missions this will be more of an Update on where we are: The Tempest has collected its crew from the planet surface and headed for the second planet in the system it’s second moon to be specific to investigate a energy signature we detected while performing our planetary survey. A short verbal scuffle took place between Lieutenant Idaris and Commander Derringer. Medical has been releasing the individuals we recovered from the planet that were hostages of the Orion Syndicate no doubt slated for human trafficking. They are getting assigned guest quarters to make them comfortable and provided food to get them healthy again. Upon closing with the planet we narrowed the energy signature down to a specific one, turns out this is some sort of concentrated Tetryon reaction occurring. We were able to narrow this down to one specific species, the Nacene. After inquiring about this we found out that the species has only been encountered a handful of time, by the crew of the USS Voyager. An event that occurred while our crew was in stasis so were not entirely caught up enough to know exactly what that is. But some of the new crew were kind enough to give us a quick rundown of who they were. As we neared the source, we also detected a vessel down on the surface of the moon and on second glance we found that it matches the material and design of the vessel that was impacted on the surface of Quadra Sigma III very close to the mine where the Orion Syndicate hostages were located. Were still investigating. If I missed something please feel free to add it or let me know and I’ll add it to the events. USS Tempest StatusAlert StatusStarbase Odyssey StatusAlert Status:

Stardate 11903.09 Location: Holodeck 2 a joint post by Elianna Kestran & Oliver Savage
Oliver clenched his fist causing the leather of the heavy bag gloves on his hands to groan in protest before he continued to unleash his anger on the heavy bag causing it to swing wildly. He stepped around it as it swung back towards him hitting again as it passed sending it careening off at another angle. His clothes were drenched with sweat, a tell tale sign that he had been punishing the bag for some time now. “Deuces…” he muttered and unleashed again as the bag came back his way.
He continued to work the bag furiously allowing it to come in close to his body, he shortened his blows to jabs but worked furiously letting his anger and frustration pour out of him with every strike on the bag. Finally with his chest heaving as he tried to breath, he stepped away wiping the sweat from his brow.
“How is it you expect to get respect, but can’t seem to fathom that its earned,” he hit the bag hard again, his words came out through clenched teeth. He watched the bag swing again and stepped aside as it came back.
He stood there watching the bag swing lazily in front of him, his eyes trying very intently to bore a hole through it. “I can’t keep letting this go, it can’t keep happening,” he muttered then stepped back in and opened up on the bag again with another onslaught of furious blows.
“You’re forcing my hand,” he said, and this time he spun and kicked the bag as it swung back towards him sending it in a wild arc, and sent it back with a side kick.
The doors to the holodeck slid open and Elianna peeked in. Looking around the old school gym, she spied him on the other side of a boxing ring, pummelling a large bag that was swinging from the ceiling. She made her way around the ring and heard him muttering as she approached cautiously.
“Hey there,” she greeted him as she came around and leaned against the wall, out of his way.
His eyes didn’t leave the swinging bag, but he did wave a hand briefly before pounding the bag a few more times. “Hey, did I forget to meet you for something? I’m sorry, needed to run off some steam,” he finally took his eyes off the bag moving out of its way.
She shook her head, “No, I just felt… you know,” she shrugged slightly, figuring it was obvious she had felt his emotions. “I thought maybe you could use someone to vent to.” She smiled and lifted a lunch sack she was carrying, “And I brought you a sandwich in case you were hungry.”
He nodded and picked up a towel. “Sorry, I try to keep those emotions from telegraphing too much. It’s difficult…” he ran the towel over his head and face. “I’m just at a point where I don’t know what to do. I keep saying that I can’t keep doing this, and the moment I think we’re making some kind of progress with him…” he tosses the towel aside sitting down on a stool. “It literally just goes to shit. I don’t think there is any winning with him.” The frustration in his voice matched the feelings he was emanating. “Can we just brainwash him or something? He’s going to destroy his own career.”
Handing him the sandwich, she sat down on the floor facing him, her legs crossed. “It would certainly make things easier…”
He shrugs. “Easy would be great, but it’s not how we do things. I just can’t get through to him. Normally I would turn to someone like Captain Phillips for advice, but all I’ve got is that creepy program he left behind and it’s not really helping.” He stared at the floor for a long moment. “Got any advice other than blowing him out an airlock?”
Elianna drew a long, slow breath as she considered the question. Then she shook her head with an apologetic look. “I wish I did. I’m beyond even caring. If he was trying to drive everyone away, I think he’s doing a pretty stellar job. Too bad he doesn’t put that much effort into his actual job.”
“I don’t think he realizes that his actions speak volumes, I can’t let what he did stand. But if I react I’m the bad guy for going after him. I was actually proud of him for standing up to Idaris. I know he probably deserved it, but at the same time it was the first time I’ve actually seen him stand up for himself in a way.” He slowly stood, his body protesting. “If he keeps acting the way he is though he’s going to just undermine himself.”
A frustrated look passed over her face, “It’s not your job to be his friend. It’s your job to be his captain.”
He nodded. “I know, but I’m having a hard time figuring that part out I guess. How do I be his Captain now? After everything that’s happened and where we sit I don’t know if I can. I feel like my hands are tied.”
Dropping her gaze to the floor for a second as she realized she was a little too upset over Sully’s behavior to be objective about the situation, she composed herself a bit before she went on. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be so blunt. And I’m sorry if my comment on the bridge made the situation worse too. I shouldn’t have said that in front of all the bridge crew.”
“It just drives home the fact that the problem is getting worse, you just said what probably everyone was thinking. I don’t think it helped or hurt the situation.” He pulled one of his arms across his chest trying to stretch it. “Aside from this pending blow out which is no doubt coming, because I’m going to have to do something very soon about this. I’m worried about them yanking us off this mission,” his brow furrowed. “It’s not like we violated Operational Security with what we found. I’m just perplexed and a little worried about our sudden change in orders.”
“You think it has to do with Sully?”
He shrugs. “It’s too hard to say at this point. He’s caused a stir in the media, our fallout, and his general antics. I wouldn’t be surprised. If it is I doubt it will just reflect on just him.” he gestured towards the arch in the distance. “I need a shower, want to walk back with me?” he asked picking up his towel again and the sandwich she brought.
Standing up and brushing herself off, she fell in step beside him as they headed out. “Can I ask you what’s maybe a pointed question?”
“Sure.”
“If it was anyone else. Not your XO, I mean. And not Sully. How would you handle it? The insubordination I mean…” she gave him a questioning glance.
He seemed to ponder that for a moment before responding. “That’s just it, I would have put them on report, and probably given them some kind of punishment. Confinement to quarters, the brig.” he opened his mouth to say something more but then stopped pondering his words. “I have a soft spot for him. That much is true, I see a lot of myself early in my career in him. I don’t know how I got here.”
She gave a nod and waited until a crewman passed, “The thing is, you have more than just Sully on your crew. You have every other officer watching how you’re going to handle it. They need to know who they’re following.”
He pauses in front of the turbolift pressing the call button. “That is absolutely right.” he frowns. “Which brings me back to the need to do something. The question is when and what.” it was more of a statement then a question. “He glanced over at her as the lift arrived and admitted them. “You always have a way to keep me thinking, and on the straight and narrow. I really appreciate that you know.”
With wink she stepped on the lift and replied, “That’s what you keep me around for.”
Finally feeling his stomach rumble, he glanced down at the sandwich in his hands and took a bite and grinned. “I keep you around for a lot more than that.” he took another bite of the sandwich. “Oh my... this is delicious. This is great after that workout. Thank you!”
As the turbolift doors closed behind them she crossed her arms with a smirk and teased, “I really just did it so I had an excuse to come watch you work out.”

We’ll be uploading that data we gathered to the departments that need it in anticipation of the recolonization of the world or that area of space.” He shifted uncomfortably in his chair. “I’m still concerned about our sudden request to return, I’m sure orders will be forthcoming as we’ve finally made it home, life will hopefully get back to normal now. I have to ha….” “Incoming Transmission.” The computers voice called out and a prompt appeared on the desktop stopping him, Oliver’s eyebrow arched seeing who it was coming from. Oliver reached out and hit the key on his desktop causing the message to populate after he authenticated himself. <IncomingComm> <OrigSFHQ> <DestOdySB> <SecLev9> Captain Savage, Following a number of complaints, I'm sending Admiral King to assess your crew and resolve apparent conflicts amongst your crew. In addition, an experience command staff will be accompanying the Admiral, and will assume command of the station. You and your crew will remain in command of the Tempest, and the Tempest will remain attached to Odyssey. For now, this is a temporary arrangement, pending Admiral King's assessment. Obviously, I wish the circumstances were different, but with Seleyan Sun out of the way, we can no longer look the other way. It's vital that we maintain the cohesion of our critical ships and facilities, as I'm sure you will agree. I encourage you to cooperate with the Admiral - she's there to resolve issues, not create them. I also want to assure you that your crew's unique circumstances are being fully considered in the Admiral's evaluation. That is all. Fleet Admiral Martin Walker Commander-in-Chief Starfleet Command <EndComm> <CopiedToArchive> Oliver felt the wind suddenly taken out of his sails, his heart sank as the implications of the words he was reading became clear. Part of him had expected something like this, but he hoped that he would be able work things out but clearly that was the past. Now careers were in the balance. He opened his mouth to say something, and just couldn’t get he words out. He took a moment to compose himself. “Looks like this is my last log as the commanding officer of Odyssey Station at least for now…” he stopped glancing up and around the office. “This isn’t happening…” he said lightly under his breath. “I can’t do this right now. End log…” he said standing and heading for the door. Tomorrow morning was going to be a very trying day, and right now he had no idea what to do or to expect. But I will be present at this coming week. I was also not able to really get a log out which I am rectifying now. Thank you all for your patience. Sounds like you had a heck of an experience with the Admiral and Sully. Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Ready Room Personal Log Stardate: 11924.03 Oliver sat in his dimly lighted office, just the distant lights of the station illuminating him, casting forlorn shadows across the ready room. While the ship was docked, she was in low power mode, and virtually empty with just a skeleton crew aboard, he had to get away from the station, from his crew, his family. Just being near anyone right now was tearing him in two, the anger, embarrassment, the despair he felt over this, he didn’t need them to see him like this. It took all his willpower to maintain his composure after he was dismissed to get back to the ship and to the solace of his ready room. He was struggling with his mental defenses, he desperately wanted to hide the inner turmoil he felt. It was bad enough that he felt the trepidation of have the talk with Admiral Walker so long ago about this very thing, but to have it resurface with such a profound impact he was fighting his emotions. No doubt to anyone able to sense him when they could it was likely a confusing array of feelings. He sat for a long time staring out the window at the stars, the passing craft. “A war criminal…” he muttered to himself. The words were shaky coming out of his mouth. It was never something he would have thought he would be labeled. It was only a matter of time before it likely got out, but he had made the decision. Right or wrong, he caused that scenario and he know he would have to live with that one way or another. That entire trip to Valt had plagued him, and deep down he knew it would surface again. Despite reports coming out of the planet’s liberation, he couldn’t help but feel partially responsible for what he was seeing. That he and his crew had somehow contributed to the conditions and disaster that seemed to be present on the planet. No, it wasn’t entirely their fault and he knew that, but it didn’t change the way he felt now, how he had felt when they had to leave the planet behind. Or how nothing had come of it when he knew deep down it should have been an ass reaming of biblical proportions. Morally he felt he did the right thing, he was trying to stop a killer, a mass murderer. He didn’t in the moment consider the possibility that it could have led to even more death and repercussions at the time. His only justification was that he was a combatant, and he had murdered countless individuals all because of a bluff. But now he sat in judgement of others, labeled as a War Criminal, and now he sat with an ultimatum in his lap. He wasn’t even sure what that ultimatum was at this point. He had been in shock, numb even over the accusation. He couldn’t count how many times he had rerun the scenario in his head including the one that had him standing resolute in stopping his first officer from killing those people on the surrendered enemy ship. What would have happened had he not have stepped in. He had trusted his first officer to do the job they had gone to Valt to do, and his decisions to bend the rules even more than they already had turned that entire situation into a powder keg, one that lead to more death. More death of innocents. They contributed in the liberation of Valt, but they had also caused the deaths of countless thousands, and they were to blame. The two of them. ~War Criminal~ it echoed in his head. He sat in silence for a long while again, the subtle vibration of the ship his only company. He shifted uneasy in his chair picking up the glass of amber liquid sitting within arms reach on his desk, glancing at the bottle resting nearby. “So where do we go from here.” He said to himself before draining the glass, he stood wincing from the liquid as it burned its way down. He stopped long enough to pour himself another two fingers before he began pacing around the dimly lit office. “I may be a bit thinner around the behind at this point after that epic ass chewing. I guess I had it coming. Admiral King says that I must stop playing into Sully’s insubordination. It’s having lasting repercussions with my crew. I was already there to be honest. This just kind of tips the scale.” He said stopping long enough to take another drink. “She’s right, and I should have stopped this long ago. I can’t give her all the credit, someone else told me the same thing not too long ago. But why am I so afraid of it?” he asked as he began to pace the office some more. “Because I’m afraid of losing him? But I guess its pretty obvious or it should be that I probably have already. But if I give up on him that would be just as bad and prove him right that no one wants him, and it would be career ending. But letting it continue would be worse, it is worse. So, it’s time to do what’s right for the whole.” He said taking another drink. He was off duty, so it didn’t matter to him how much he drank right now, fact was he was already working his way into tipsy. “But what is right for the whole?” He stopped back at the window staring into the glass that still had a little of the brown liquid left in it, he admired the colors of the stars through the glass and how they refracted against the angles. “They took away the Station, and rightfully so. Starfleet can’t have a dysfunctional command staff heading up one of its state-of-the-art Space Stations. I don’t blame them. I don’t think in hindsight that I ready for that kind of responsibility. Or was I?” he shook his head slowly. “I don’t even know anymore. I’m not ashamed to admit that my confidence is probably at an all time low.” He stood in silence leaning on the window sill, draining the last of the liquid in the glass he dropped it on the desktop misjudging the distance causing it to clatter and wobble as it settled on the glass. He turned and walked over to the couch dropping on it he lays back repositioning the pillow below his head. “So where do we go from here?” he repeated as he stared up into the ceiling. “I don’t know, I’m lost. I thought I knew where I was going and now, I’m just lost.” He closed his eyes, trying to focus on his breathing, his mental exercises for controlling his emotions. “Computer play…” he thought for a moment trying to think of something calming “Weightless by Marconi Union.” He lay in silence for a while listening to the growing melody, it helped him focus, its floating melody almost swaying him subconsciously. “Admiral King has given me assurances that Captain th’Zran is here to help, that it may be a temporary reassignment of the station. She also said that the role may change to a mentorship type situation. Which I admit might not be such a bad thing, my mentor was taken from me so early…” his composure shifted again, his brow furrowed as he remembered that day in a flash, his Captain crushed beneath fallen debris on the bridge before they had to abandon ship. “Too early, but a Captain who has some years under their belt to call upon for advice isn’t such a bad thing. He’s been around, and since most of my old Academy friends are either dead, retired, or otherwise occupied the only other Captain I have any rapport with is Harris on the Vonnegut, but he’s usually off somewhere unreachable, and to be honest its not that much of a rapport.” He shrugs and folds his hands across his chest. “So, one good thing that hopefully will lead to more…” “War Criminal…” he muttered again. His eyes opened briefly as he scanned the ceiling as if looking for something. “Bet you never guessed that I would carry that title while we were working together Captain.” He half grinned before closing his eyes again, concentrating on his breathing. Oliver laid with his eyes closed, he could feel himself drifting off to sleep, his barriers fell, and he was a tangled mess of exhaustion, and fading emotional turmoil as his body gave up and finally drifted off to sleep. It wasn’t until the time elapsed with no activity that the personal log recording stopped.

Looking forward to seeing your character develop Stardate: 11904.13 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Ready Room Oliver sat behind his desk; a mug of steaming tea nestled between his hands as he stared at the desktop computer screen. “Computer being captains log!” he said without looking away from the screen. He waited for the computer to go through its customary beeps indicating it was accessing the file and beginning the new entry. “Captains Log, Stardate 11904.13. Meeting with Admiral King as we have over the last few days has caused a whirlwind of change, hopefully for the better. Its clear that some of it is not but that’s a more personal change than anything.” He paused a moment long enough to take a sip from his mug. “Odyssey is under new management; I get to go to counseling and its likely an Admiral is going to be posted to the Tempest at least until things change or people get reassigned.” He paused thinking about the notion of change, and reassignment. “The Admiral said we needed to decide if we want to salvage things or not, it was a difficult question given the circumstances. But ever since this all started all I wanted to do was to try and make things right with Sully, get him the help he needs, but every turn has been a wrong one. So, can we salvage things? I don’t think it’s a matter of my decision anymore, this is all up to Sully. I’ve always been willing at least that is what I’ve been trying to convey.” He shrugs and shakes his head. “Elianna’s talking about transferring the Stations Medical Department, she feels like some of this is being driven by our relationship now after our conversation, and that it’s getting in the way. While it pains me that we might have to do this, it might just be the right thing to do. She said she would make that decision soon, and while I clearly have an emotional detachment there, I would not try to convince her otherwise. I will be supportive as I always have been, and always will be.” He hit the key on his desktop and finally looked up from the screen. “As I promised to Admiral King, I have sent a request off to Eldrida requesting she add me for a regular counseling session. While I do not feel I need it and did not need it when it was suggested in the end Its not my decision now. Ms. Trost will have to make that determination, and, in all honesty, it cannot hurt to see someone regularly for a while. After all that’s happened it might be nice to talk to someone about all these crazy changes and its not like I have not been affected by what has transpired. It’s time. Maybe past time. But the first step is done, I should get a schedule soon. “Admiral King mentioned a mission is coming our way soon, it will be nice to have a hopeful distraction from all of this and a chance to get back to work. Progress is progress no matter how small or insignificant. End Log”

A joint post by Oliver Savage and Elianna Kestran Stardate: 11920.04
Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Quarters of Oliver Savage
Elianna made her way through the station with a light bounce in her step. It felt as though everyone could probably tell something was different, but in truth, no one even noticed her mood as she found her way to the airlock and crossed into the Tempest. She took the lift to he proper deck and stepped out. The ship was running on minimal support crew with power and lights on low settings, so she found herself walking down the darkened corridor, the duffel bag over her shoulder jostling with each step until she came to Oliver’s door. He had taken to staying on the ship since he had been relieved of command of the station. Elianna knew he was struggling with the transition and it was easier for him to hide here. She reached up and rang the bell, nervously shifting her weight from foot to foot as she waited for him to answer.
Oliver looked up from the Padd he was reading with a recent duty roster update for the ship, and an eyebrow arched out of curiosity, he wasn’t expecting any visitors and the ship was virtually empty. He stood, setting the Padd down and crossed the room to the door pressing the button to release the lock and glanced up from the floor as the door slid open. He smiled seeing that it was Elianna, he was relieved. “Hey there..” he said stepping aside. “You going somewhere?” he asked gesturing to the bag with a slight nod.
She smiled warmly and nodded in response to his question as she stepped into his quarters. Elianna gave a quick glance around, she was more accustomed to the quarters on the station than the ship these days. Sliding the bag strap off her shoulder, she let the duffel drop to the floor. Then she crossed over to the replicator, “Computer, two glasses of Napa Valley Merlot, please.” The replicator whirred compliantly and two stemware glasses containing a deep red wine materialized. She picked them up and walked back over to where Oliver stood, to hold one glass out to him.
He took the offered glass his smile deepened. “What are we celebrating? I’m confused.” he studied her trying to deduce what she was up too.
Elianna gently twirled her glass, causing the liquid within to swirl. “We are celebrating moving in together.” A small smile curled at the corners of her mouth as she lifted her glass to toast.
“Really? That’s great!” His glass met hers. “What made you change your mind?” he asked, his smile couldn’t possibly get any wider.
She took a sip of her wine, then looked at her glass as she answered, “I’ve been feeling your emotions these past couple days and I wanted so bad to help, to comfort you. And it just made me realize,” she lifted her gaze again to look into his eyes, “that this is where I want to be.”
He felt a twinge of guilt for hiding away, “Sorry about that, I needed some time to think.” he took a sip from his own glass. “Admiral King hit me with a bombshell or three.” his expression softened a bit. “But I knew if I needed you I could call. But this makes me very happy. I needed some good news.”
She took a long sip of her wine, delaying the inevitable confession she knew she had to make now. “I have something else I need to tell you.” She nodded toward the couch, “Maybe we should sit down.” Elianna took his hand, intertwining her fingers between his and led him over to the couch where she settled down and waited for him to get comfortable. She was hoping to ease him into the bad news.
He nods, and gestures to the couch. “Sure, but that is usually the start of a difficult conversation. How prepared should I be for this one?” he asked eyeing his glass wondering if he might need something stronger now.
Elianna shook her head with a light laugh, “The wine should be fine.” She patted the couch next to her, inviting him to sit.
He settled down on the couch next to her, wrapping an arm around her, “Alright, just do it like a bandaid. I can handle it.” he grinned as he took another drink from the glass.
“After the meeting yesterday, I stayed and talked to Admiral King about resigning my post. This morning I turned in the letter of resignation, so it’s official.” She took a gulp of her wine, revealing her nervousness.
He opened his mouth to say something, then frowned before leaning back into the couch a somewhat stunned look on his face. After waiting for a moment he grinned. “I would say that I was surprised but this isn’t the first time we’ve talked about it. Is that truly what you want?” he watched her carefully.
“I don’t think I could have both the job and this relationship, so I chose you. Yes, this is what I want.”
He nodded. “So what will you do now that your free of the chains of Starfleet?”
“I’m not sure, entirely. I mean,” she snuggled up against him as she considered her options, “I’ll still be here so I can consult as needed for my replacement. And I’ve got a couple research projects I’ve been working on for a while. I will finally have some time to devote to them now.” Elianna looked at him, “I suppose I also thought, you know, maybe someday I’d like to start a family too. Now my job won’t keep me from that either, when the time is right I mean.” She flushed in a mix of nerves and embarrassment at putting the idea out there.
He finished his glass and set it on the table, cuddling up to her. “Sounds like a future I can certainly see happening when the time is right. I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather share that experience with.” Part of him knew this was probably coming, her leaving Starfleet. Ever since they had talked about it, the potential impacts it would have on their careers, it was always in the back of his mind. He had hoped it wouldn’t be as soon, and a small part of him also felt guilty about it.
She sensed his guilt and smiled reassuringly at him, “It’s not your fault, you know. I could have stayed, Admiral King made it clear that they wouldn’t have forced the issue. I left because this was the right decision, and it’s what I want.”
“I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but there was a time I was certain that this was not something that was going to happen for me. My choice in career, the path I’ve taken in that career. I thought for sure having a relationship that was serious was probably not going to be in my future. Honestly I never expected that we would be here like this. But I can’t tell you how happy it makes me.” he smiled and knew she could feel it and didn’t need to see it. While he still held some feelings of worry, and fears about his future and this was certainly dominating his emotional spectrum.
He had a thought come to mind, “So who did you leave any suggestions for a replacement? I know this is pretty fresh but I doubt that you would have made this decision without having someone in mind to suggest to replace you.”
Elianna could tell the uncertainty of his situation was wearing on him, but she let him change the subject. “I don’t know how much my recommendation means, in the end the brass will pick the person they feel is the best fit. I told them I thought Emily was up to the job, and there were a couple other people I’ve followed things they’ve been doing that I mentioned as well. There’s a young doctor on the Chiron that I’ve read some reports on. She shows promise, I like how she thinks outside the box. But she’s untested too, it’s hard to say how she would handle an assignment like Odyssey Station. I know Emily can handle it, she practically does it all already. It’s hard saying who they’ll pick, but I’m sure whoever you get will do a great job.”
“Hey,” she set her glass on the coffee table and turned to face him, “I know you feel safer here,” she motioned to the room, “but I only packed a weekend bag. I’ll have the rest of my stuff sent to your quarters on the station. You don’t have any reason you should have to hide, we’ll get through this and you’ll be back in command of Odyssey in no time. Besides, “ she leaned in and gave him a kiss, “I miss that fantastic view of the arboretum.”
“It is a much better view than this.” he said gesturing to the windows and the stars beyond. “Get to see the stars all the time. Arboretum reminds me of home. You should come with me to visit sometime, maybe next time were back at Earth or when we can take leave.” his expression shifted as a thought came to mind. “When we deploy from the station will you be staying behind?”
“You’re the Captain, you tell me.” Elianna grinned, “Think you could do without me while the ship’s away?”
He let out a light laugh. “I don’t know, it could be difficult. But I suppose you're right it could end up being very situational. If I knew we were going into danger I might not want you to be there if you didn’t have to be.” he shrugged. “You also might have a job on the Station you can’t leave regularly so I suppose that’s still a very fluid subject.”
“We have all the time in the world to figure it all out, I’m not worried.”
“Yes we do. I guess it’s just a new change that brings a lot of questions. I’m not excited or anything.” he smiled and relaxed a bit. “I’m looking forward to exploring this with you and all the questions that might come up.”
She smiled, “It’s a new adventure together.”
“More like another chapter in an adventure that was already started and just evolving.” he blinked and glanced down at her as another one of those questions came to mind. “What side of the bed do you want to sleep on?”

Mission 108 – “Remission” - Part 1Sim Date: April 27, 2019 Attendance: CJ – Game Director (GD) Captain Oliver Alexander Savage – Commanding Officer (CO) Commander Sullivan “Sully” Emily Derringer – Executive Officer (XO) Lieutenant Penelope Evans – Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Lieutenant Naomi Idaris – Chief of Security (SEC) Ensign Melody Wythe - Operations Officer (OPS) Cadet Chall Drallach – Tactical Officer (TAC) Leave of Absence:Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Cleveland – Chief Tactical Officer (CTO) Lieutenant Junior Grade Cameron Corcoran – Science Officer Open PositionsUnassigned - Chief of Flight Operations (FLT) Unassigned – Engineering Officer (ENG) Notable NPC’s Used: OOC & Pre-Sim Information: Sorry about disappearing towards the end of the sim, was not feeling great and ended up away longer than I intended for it. New mission, new adventure. Looking forward to what’s next. Stardate: 11904.29 Location: USS Tempest NCC-1852-A, Deck 1, Ready Room Oliver stood in front of the window facing the aft of the ship, the stars steaking past steadily as the warp field effect filled the vista. They had been traveling at high warp now for a few days now heading towards the Barson system, specifically Barson II. “Computer begin log recording.” He said as he stood staring out the window. He waited as the computer went through its usual progressions of beeps to indicate it pulled the file and began the new recording. “Captains log, Stardate 11904.29. The Tempest and crew are heading to Barson II, a simple medical supply run. This is probably meant as baby steps considering out situation. We are about halfway there now, just a few more days travel and we should be at our destination. Admiral King has mostly kept to herself observing and making good use of our Conference room as her office. I don’t honestly anticipate too much trouble on this mission. Were just delivering medical supplies after all.” he pushed away from the wall and crossed the room out of sight for a moment. The sounds of the replicator went off and he came back into view settling down at his desk, a chicken Cesar salad in hand. “Our new medical officer is making herself at home slowly. She seems to be observing more than anything these last few days. Probably trying to find her place and her way with the crew. Hopefully we don’t scare her off. Our new Tactical officer likewise seems to be settling in well and seems to be making friends quickly. Which is good, new blood in the ranks is always good and a refreshing change of pace.” He took a bite from his salad and activated his desktop computer. “I realized last night while I was looking over our current roster for the ship and it didn’t dawn on me how many people have changed between transferring permanently to the station or off to other ship’s we’ve lost nearly a third of our family. Those who were with us back at Lyshan, and those who came with us during our long sleep. I guess that puts things into perspective.” He frowned and took another bite. He shrugged. “It only gets better from here right? Maybe this mission is exactly what we need. A step in the right direction. We should be arriving in another couple of days to Barson II, so far nothing out of the ordinary has happened and life seems to be leveling off as far as the crew is concerned.” He scanned through his mail, and opened a file going quiet for a moment then after a brief pause. “End log!” he said causing the image to fade to black. A joint post by Oliver Savage and Special Guest Appearance by Councilor Eldrida Trost. Around Stardate 11904.22 - Shortly before we left on our current mission.
Lights a candle. Turns on classical music. Looks at clock on the wall. Sighs. “It's always like herding a cat with this one.” Taps com badge “Captain, you are 5 minutes late for our briefing. Did you get held up?”
Oliver walked up to the door as he hears the familiar voice of Eldrida come through his communicator, he simply rings the doorbell next to the door. “I’m Here…” he says loudly enough that his muffled voice might be heard.
Eldrida looks up and smiles “Enter. How are you doing today Captain?”
Oliver stepped in as the doors parted and surveyed the room slowly. “I'm doing alright, it’s been a while. How have you been?”
“Busy as usual, but well thank you. Please have a seat.” she motions to a chair near her. “Would you like some tea?”
Oliver nodded, and moved over to the chair settling into the seat. “Ah, sure. Yes, tea would be fine. Busy is good. I imagine it has been crazy with all that's gone on over the last several months.
Pours some tea, hands it to Oliver and giggles. “People in my profession tend to frown on the use of the word crazy. Batshit bananas is the medical term.” She winked. “How can I help you today Captain?”
He takes a sip from the tea before leaning back into the chair. “Thank you for this...” He gestured to the cup with a nod. “To be honest I don't know. Admiral King ordered me, or I suppose requested very directly that I go through this. She suggested that I needed it too. But I don't even know what to talk about, where to begin.”
“Well then... Why don't we just talk about whatever is on your mind. How was your day today? Tell me about that.”
“Uh...well. Typical day, I guess. Tempest is going through maintenance while were in port for the moment, restocking for our next outing. Had breakfast with Elianna before heading to the ship to inspect some of the work being done. Went over some intelligence reports.”
“How does it feel to be at port? I know that you can get a little restless from time to time.”
“That's accurate, restless is a good word for what I feel here. But it’s worse than that lately. I've never been one to entirely care what people think of me, but now walking the halls of the station it feels like someone is always staring, watching me. Is that weird? I'm very subconscious about how people are seeing me, especially now after Admiral King removed me from command. It’s not normally something that would bother me, but it is. I've been staying on the ship, but recently Elianna got me to move back to my place on the station, but it still feels awkward.”
“No. It's perfectly normal to feel like that. While I don't think that people are judging you, I think it's completely reasonable to feel self-conscious given your circumstances. Talk to me about Admiral King's decision to remove you from the command of the station. What are your thoughts here? I know this stuff is difficult to talk about, but please feel free to be open and honest. What you say here will not leave the room.”
Oliver offers a half smile. “Thank you... What Admiral King did was necessary. She's trying to mitigate a growing bad situation both between me and Sully, and our crew and with the rest of the galaxy. Her decision was necessary. I only wish I had the courage to stop this a long time ago. We've put ourselves, Sully and I in a really bad place.” There was a short pause before he continued. “Were apparently War Criminals now. Though probably won’t be prosecuted for it, it’s what Admiral King has let us know. It makes no sense to me. But it is what it is now. Can't take back that Torpedo, no more than Sully can take back his arrogant attempt to raise a coup and start an insurrection of a heavily occupied planet.”
“No. You can't take back the decisions you or Sully made at the time, but that doesn't mean they weren't complicated decisions or absent of complicated emotions surrounding them. Let's go back to that time. Walk me through your thought process about what lead you to decide to launch that torpedo.”
Taking a quick drink of his tea before beginning. “Umm. Well we had just watched the True Federations response to Sully's call for Insurrection, one of the camps called us from the surface where they proceeded to execute tens of thousands of civilians. The entire camp was wiped out. Sully went storming off the bridge his intentions were not really clear. I checked with our people to ensure that only armed individuals were present, so we sent a single torpedo down in response to this. It seemed at the time necessary. They killed tens of thousands, so we took the few of them we could justify. It was emotional. We just watched so many people needlessly killed. Sully went off to the ship that had surrendered with the intention of executing the crew. I was able to talk him down from that. But...” he shook his head.
“It’s ok captain. Take a minute. That is a lot to process. It sounds to me like there is some conflict in your heart between whether the decision to send that torpedo was proportional or emotional. Let's explore that some.”
“Tell me what you were thinking about in the moments that lead up to your decision to launch the torpedo. I know what was going on around you, I'm concerned about what was going on internally with you. What were you thinking? How were you feeling?”
Oliver got quiet for a long moment while he thought about that question, it was clear he was searching for a response, and after a short time he finally looked up. “I was angry. I was furious and I needed to respond. I Couldn't just let it go. The True Federation have been stepping on our necks left and right and I saw my one opportunity to strike back so I justified it in my head, and I let it fly. I was angry with Sully for walking away again. At a crucial moment. He left me standing there with all the cards and I reacted. I was furious, angry, I was heartbroken for all those lives that just had been extinguished on the surface. I was confused how people could do something so against everything. Throwing away life.”
“That's, if you will pardon my archaic language, a fuck-ton of things to have to go through while trying to keep a calm head and make life or death split decisions.”
“But that's my job, I’m supposed to be the one to keep my head in situations like that and I lost it. I'm human, i know that. But I should have known better. Your right I had so much going on. Anyone would have been overwhelmed.”
“Tell me why you couldn't let go of the True Federation's actions. You've seen all sorts of poor players in your years of service. You've seen civilians die before. What was it about this time that shook you so much?”
“Not like this. This was different. We didn't have the luxury of being here for all those conflicts when billions died. Before we went into our sleep, we had conflicts yes, but this is different. Some of those people who were doing the killing, the people we are fighting they were all Starfleet. They were all part of an organization that was here for the betterment of mankind. Not this.”
Eldrida tried to keep Oliver’s feelings out of her head, but there was just so. much. anger radiating from every bit of his being. She was surprised he wasn't visibly shaking for as much anger as she was feeling coming from him. “Do you think the people in the true federation weren't doing things for the betterment of mankind?”
“I think, like many misguided parties in the past they think they are. But you would think they could see what it is they are doing. The damage they are doing to the planets they are destroying for their resources. Not only did they kill a large swath of the populous they've destroyed the echo system. That planet will never be the same. I can't see how that is progress. Not only that, the people that are surrendering or that we rescue to send to prison are starving. They are in such bad shape when we come across them, it makes no sense why they are continuing to support the True Federation. It seems to me that they are stuck and being forced to do this now.”
“This sounds like you are giving me the answer you would give the Admiral. Or an interview. It's all brain and no heart.” Edridia pauses a minute before pushing farther. “Talk to me about Starfleet. What does it mean to you? How do you feel about the organization? About the people you serve with?”
He blinked at her response, suddenly realizing that she was right it was exactly what he would have told someone in command, this made him frown and consider how to respond. “Starfleet has been my life for as long as I can remember. It’s a family business. So, it means... it means everything to me. My image of this organization has been skewed. We've gone from an organization that was primarily exploration. Now what are we? Were a space navy more than anything. I don't know how I feel about it anymore. I'll do my job. Hoping it comes back to what it once was. The people I serve with. Most of them are great officers. But...” He frowned going quiet for a moment. “Some are harder to work with than others.”
“How so? what makes them difficult? Why do you have a hard time with them?”
“Mostly Sully. Nothing I do works with him. I've tried everything I can think of. He's infuriating. He does not seem to understand why the crew second guesses him, why everyone's upset with him. And he deflects everything. I didn't want things to get here, but I have to take some responsibility in that.”
“What else?”
Oliver blinked looking at her. “What else?”
“What else? What else is difficult about them? what else makes you angry? Quit being Captain Savage and start being Oliver. You have been so angry for so long you are numb to it. You need to feel your emotions. If you don't, you will continue to make blind decisions based on them till they kill you. So, quit dancing around it. Why. Are. You. So. Angry?”
Oliver's brow furrowed a bit. “I don't know. There is so much to be angry about. I feel like I was robbed. Between losing my Captain, our near death at Lyshan. Our twenty-five-year sleep. This war. So much has changed and we were sidelined. I'm stumbling, second guessing myself because I feel like everything, I do is a mistake. Right or wrong, I cannot seem to do anything right. My first officer is kind enough to remind me. But I'm just as green at this job as he is at his. I’m frustrated because I can't find the answer.
Eldrida arched an eyebrow a bit. “Robbed you say? Is that all you have been robbed of?”
“No. I knew the station was a temporary command, I never had any delusions that I would stay in charge of Odyssey. I think though that I was starting to hope. But that's not the worst. The worst is I've been robbed of my honor. I've been labeled a criminal, a war criminal at that. How do you recover from that? I feel like I was set up to fail by the one person I should have trusted or been able to trust.”
“And who was that one person? who took it all from you?”
His eyes slowly found the ground. “I did. That's the worst part. I have no one to blame but myself.”
Eldrida's eyes soften. “And you have gotten very good at kicking the jerk that did this to you. You make him pay and pay and pay every second of the day. When is it enough? When have you finally paid him back for not living up.to your standards?”
A small grin appeared on his lips as he looked up. “I am my own worst enemy I suppose. I don't know if I have the answer to that.”
“You don't have to have the answer today. This is the first of many sessions. The Admiral and The Tempest gave you a gift even if it doesn’t feel like it. You radiate a sun's worth of anger. I can't keep from feeling it and yet you are so disconnected from it you can't feel it. Makes for a great Captain. Not so much a healthy human man. This was a great first session. You've come a lot further than I expected.”
“I would like to ask your permission for our following sessions to let down my empath wall. I keep a wall up for both my health and the comfort of others. It’s important for me that you understand how this works. I don't go digging around for things. I ask you about what your brain and your heart send to me. You will betray yourself. You will show me things you keep from yourself. It will be messy and painful, but it is necessary. Do I have your permission to do this in our next sessions?”
Oliver nodded. “If it will help you better understand me and help me get better then yes. Absolutely. I trust you. Your probably right though, you should be prepared if I'm subconsciously hiding my own problems even from me, then it’s likely to be a mess.”
“I find that we all do that to a degree. Things are too painful to process so we just don't. We wall them up and block them out. Our minds are incredibly self-reliant, but they are not perfect, and the walls only hold for so long. It isn't me that needs to better understand you. It's that you need to better understand yourself. I'm just a tool we are going to use to get there. In the meantime, rest. Enjoy the company of friends. Go take your lady on a picnic in the holodeck. Do you have any questions for me today or anything you feel like we should discuss before we end for the day?”
He shakes his head. “No, not right now. Thank you again, I appreciate this.”
“You are a good man Oliver. I'm happy to help you.” Eldrida smiles warmly. “Tell Elliana that we are way overdue for lunch. You have a great rest of your day sir. We will see you tomorrow.”
Oliver nodded as he stood. “See you tomorrow.” He said as he headed for the door. “I will let Elianna know about the lunch when I see her tonight. Thanks again
