For Immediate Release from the office of Admiral Tetia Xanic, Starfleet Communications:
In times of conflict, it is natural to despair. This is an inescapable fact of sapience, and is one of the many things that must be considered when engaged in heavy conflict. The past two years have been trying on our Starfleet family, to say the least. As we continue to work to bring conflict to an end, Starfleet Command is keenly aware of the issues of morale and camaraderie. It is vitally important for us all to understand that we are in this mess together, that we have each others' backs, and that as long as we continue to do so, there's no obstacle we can't overcome.
To that end, Starfleet Command, the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, and the Daystrom Institute of Technology are proud to announce the development of the Personnel Integration Promotion System (PIPS). The goal of PIPS is to develop a centralized, persistent holodeck program accessible by any ship in the 'fleet, allowing for real-time interaction between crews at all corners of Federation space and beyond.
PIPS is the result of nearly twenty years of research into advancements in subspace communications, and represents a revolutionary leap in our ability to communicate with ships at previously impossible distances. While primarily theoretical, these advancements have recently entered practical tests, and are ready for limited live trials.
In the coming days, a handful of select ships and installations will be fitted with prototypical communications upgrades in order to facilitate a limited test of PIPS. The crews of these vessels and facilities are encouraged to spend some of their downtime in a dedicated holodeck, and enjoy a casual setting in which to meet and chat with their comrades.
Assuming all goes well, this could lead to an extraordinary new way to improve fleet cohesion and morale, to extend the reach of home to our most distant worlds, and enhance our resolve as we continue to promote peaceful exploration and coexistence throughout the galaxy.
Starfleet Command is looking forward to the results of this test, and we hope the service proves as beneficial to each of you as early signs indicate.
Thank you for your time, and have a wonderful day!

OOC Notes (in no particular order)
- We'll be playing on the official STAB Discord server! If you don't have a discord account, you can go here to create one for free. You can access the server in a web browser, or you can download a desktop or mobile app, which I recommend doing. Once that's squared away, you can join the server by clicking this link, or in the app by clicking the dotted circle/plus sign, clicking 'join server', and putting discord.gg/gZnRTan in the box.
- The timing of this event is somewhat nebulous, as not all the ships got to a sizable in-game lapse before the break (my bad!), or are in a non-quarantine state (Aoibhe's bad!). So, for funsies, we're gonna say this happens during late December 2397, which will be weeks ago in-game, and not too long after the events of the first joint-arc and Operation Seleyan Sun. Also, we're in 2398 now, and I never got around to establishing that for a variety of reasons, so... there you go.
- Obviously, this is meant as an opportunity for your characters to interact with those of other ships, potentially even your own! Feel free to take it as lightly or as seriously as you'd like. As with the previous Discord event, please use <> brackets to indicate which character you're writing as.
- I'm gonna get the channel set up later today, and there'll be a description of what your characters will see in the program, and some basic interactive elements and the like.
