Hello everyone.
For those of you who didn't see his message on the Discord server, Andrew has parted ways with STAB in order to focus on his personal life. We, the Admin team, want to thank him for helping make the game what it is, and we wish him the best and hope he can join us again somewhere down the line.
Obviously Andrew was a big part of running the game, and filling in the gaps will require a bit of shuffling. Aoibhe, Einar, and I have been working on a solution, and we've got a plan in place for moving forward.
We're also taking the opportunity to implement some changes that will provide you, the players, with additional opportunities to contribute to the game, both narratively and logistically. Our aim is to provide a space to encourage and enable you to tell stories in our shared universe, and to share ownership with the community so that the game isn't too dependent on any one person.
Before we get to that, though, here's what changes to expect on the weekday ships after the break:
ZORYA
Aoibhe has kindly agreed to take over Game Director duties for the Zorya. This will allow me to focus more on implementing those improvements we'll be talking about later in the post, and just generally relieve some of my STAB-related stress. Aoibhe is an Original in more ways than one, and there's no one I would trust more to carry on what we've built on the Zorya than her.
I'll have more to say about stepping down as Zorya GD later, but don't worry - you'll still be seeing me on Mondays as part of the Zorya crew!
As for the Big Chair, Gunther will be stepping up to fill the role of Captain. He's a long-time player with plenty of experience, and I have no doubt he'll be a great CO for the ship. Thank you again, G!
CHIRON
The most dramatic change will be at the Chiron’s Game Director position, which will become something of a rotation. Anyone who wants to give Game Director a try will get a 4-5 week block to run an arc on the Chiron. Essentially, this is an opportunity to learn the ropes of being a GD with the guidance and input of us old timers, and with a well-established crew.
It has always been the intention for STAB to grow beyond the three ships we have, and doing this allows us to start training potential GD candidates to facilitate that. So, if you've ever had any interest in trying, or if you want to try something new, just let us know!
OTHER THINGS
The other changes we have in mind are all about giving you more of a hand in shaping the game going forward. I think It's safe to say that the Discord server is becoming a successful community resource, and we plan to expand its uses. If you haven't already joined the server, you can find out how to do so here.
First, we'll be adding a storyboarding channel. This will effectively replace the Lore Committee. If you have a story idea, whether its for a character or events happening elsewhere, you'll be able to suggest and discuss it in that channel. We'll also be talking about where things stand in the wider galaxy, and our ideas about future events so that you can give your input.
In addition, we'll be having log competitions (like the current one, which you can find here!) and we'll be looking for people who want to write FNN articles and other vignettes to help flesh out the lore. We'll have more information on these and other features in the coming weeks, and as always, if any of you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us either here on the board, or in Discord.
Once again, I want to thank all of you for playing with us. The best is yet to come!
