We are currently building a new section of the forum for welcoming in new players as our push to expand begins, and that has required establishing a few things. Since we transplanted from our previous game, the rules and guidelines of the site have remained largely unwritten. Basically, don't be a jerk, and everything's fine, which is the modern equivalent of the Golden Rule, and that has been good enough.
As we look to add more players, however, it will become necessary for us to be more specific about the things that are and aren't allowed here in STAB, whether in-mission or on the forum. To that end, we've written up some Rules & Guidelines, and we're posting them here provisionally so you can all be aware of them, and can share any thoughts or concerns you have about anything included or not included. As always, this is meant to be a community-driven game, so your input absolutely matters, and we will consider any suggestions or clarifications you think are necessary!
Let us know what you think!
Site Rules
We're a fairly easy-going bunch, but it's still good to have some basic rules that we all agree to follow. It helps keep things friendly and jovial, and makes life easier for all involved. Promise!
1. You must be at least 17 years old. STAB missions can involve mature (though not gratuitous or explicit) subject matter, so we require that prospective players be of an appropriate age.
2. We welcome members of any race, nationality, cultural background, belief system, sexual orientation, gender identity, or spectrum of ability.
3. We have zero tolerance for any discrimination, harassment, or abuse of any kind directed towards our members. Such behavior will be grounds for removal. This includes but is not limited to derogatory comments based on any of the qualities in Rule 2, any unwanted innuendo or in-character advances, or any refusal to cease unwanted behavior directed towards another player (or their character) after being asked to stop.
4. We ask that you include a name in your signature that you would be comfortable being called. We'd prefer not to call people 'user427' or anything like that!
Guidelines
These are some common guidelines to give you a sense of what our community is like.
1. All of our missions are run in English. That is the language common to our current player base, but we will do our best to accommodate those who might rely on translation programs to communicate in English.
2. While we welcome members of varying writing skill, attempts should be made to use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
3. Feel free to make use of the 'like' button! This is a good way to encourage others when you don't have something specific to say. It's always nice to see that little notification pop up.
4. If you're playing in a chat mission, please try to be there 10 minutes early. This will help the Game Director be prepared to run the mission. In addition, players are generally expected to stay for debrief, which can last up to 10 minutes after the mission (though usually done in less time).
5. Be judicious with your critique. People's writing prowess differs, and not everyone is open to serious critique of their writing or their character work. Generally, unless somebody asks, it's probably best not to tell them what you think they could do better.
