Roleplaying Rules & Guidelines
1. Do not write actions for other PCs. Each player has sole ownership of their own character, and you are not allowed to dictate how others respond to events or in conversation.
2. You must be a Department Head or Command Staff to create a Starfleet NPC. Department heads can only create NPCs for their own department, unless directed to do otherwise by a GD.
3. Get GD permission to action GD NPCs. For the most part, the GD will control their own NPCs. However, if a mission is particularly busy, a GD may give you permission to action an NPC yourself.
4. The GD determines whether non-mundane tasks are successful, or what information is gleaned from things like scans and analyses. Please do not make up your own results unless directed to by a GD. Generally speaking, your written actions should describe attempts to do non-trivial things, with the GD then either whispering you the results for you to share, or describing them in an Action or Scene line.
1. Good characters have flaws. Nobody should succeed at everything they try, nor should they seem to have all the answers. It's just not believable.
2. Remember that you're playing a member of a military organization. Disobeying orders can result in disciplinary action, from getting chewed out ICly to a formal reprimand or, in extreme situations, a demotion.
3. When you're whispered information that your character has gleaned somehow - usually from a scan or something - we encourage you to rewrite the information in language fitting your character, as opposed to simply copying and pasting. One option is definitely faster, but it also tends to be fairly obvious. Rewriting the information to fit your character's personality helps them stand out and feel more unique!
4. Here in STAB, we try not to say 'you can't do that,' at least when it comes to your character trying to do something. However, it's important to note that your actions have consequences. Being a pilot who goes rogue and takes the ship into an asteroid field in pursuit of an enemy might be badass and dramatic, but it will get your character in serious trouble. Trying to set up a stim-dealing ring on the side might be a good side arc for your character, but it could land them in prison. The GD has no responsibility to lessen the consequences of a character's action (though they may talk to you privately and give you a chance to retcon), so keep this in mind.
