Educational History
Joanne was accepted into the Academy after her parents were killed in a Borg attack. Before then, she had been home-schooled by her parents. It had been a happy childhood, on a Starfleet vessel. However, her family had been on leave during the attack, and it was a privately owned vessel that was a victim of circumstances. Her parents ensured her survival by putting her in the only escape pod that was working, but damaged. On being picked up by a Starfleet vessel, they safely returned her to Earth, where the Academy accepted her, despite being under the traditional age for acceptance.
She followed what appeared to be a generic path through the Academy, not picking a favoured department or command to specialise in. However, she had been recruited early by SFI, due to her orphan status, and they controlled her education in order to mould the recruit they desired.
Career Summary
On graduation, she was not assigned a vessel. She, instead, disappeared from most records, only appearing occasionally, and rarely mentioned by name. There were tenuous connections of her name with deals made with Ferengi and a woman who matched her description and a certain Romulan Officer, high ranking in the Tal Shiar.
11302.04 she arrived on the USS Scimitar, escorting Captain Rome after his experiences with the Section 31 agent Dixon. Her assignment was to shadow the Captain, ensuring his safety. As such, he insisted on her performing the duties of a ship tactical officer alongside her SFI role. On 11402.17 she transferred to the USS Hyperion, following Rome.
Eventually, her loyalty towards SFI shifted to that of the Hyperion and it's Captain. This was accentuated when a previous fellow SFI agent also joined the vessel, showing that it was possible to have a 'real life'.
After the destruction of the USS Hyperion and the death of Jonathan Rome, Joanne initially refused to serve with any of her previous crew mates. She choose instead, short assignments on different vessels over the three years working for both Starfleet, and occasionally Intelligence, until her current assignment on the USS Zorya.
Starfleet Medical Profile
Feyna's medical file is only accessible from 11302.04, and her earliest documented medical was generated on the USS Scimitar. It lists no permanent injuries, noting that over her tenure with Starfleet she sustained several recoverable injuries. It should be noted that during a leave of absence, a serious phaser blast to the chest occurred, that required extended recovery time.

Zero Log:
She looked down at the PADD in her hands. A new assignment. She briefly wondered why she was being transferred, not really caring. It was probably Captain Bill. He wasn’t really called Bill, but it was what she had nicknamed him. Maybe, once or twice, she’d called him that to his face. It hadn’t been appreciated. But now, she was going and Bill wouldn’t have to worry about an inappropriate nickname anymore. How was Jo supposed to have known about his habit of paying Latinum late?
She smirked down at the orders slightly. Of course she had known. She always found out that kind of stuff. It’s how she managed to become like Danann used to be. Promoted, despite her attitude, to occasional Executive Officer, moving from vessel to vessel. Moving from job to job, wherever she was needed to get something done fast, and not always clean. Not staying anywhere too long. The longest had been with Ro….
The war has lost many lives, and many officers. She suspected the her assignment as XO to the…she looked down again at the PADD…USS Zorya was more from lack of available suitable officers, not because of her particular skillset or previous references.
She was to report to a Captain Jiang. Jo didn’t expect much from him. She didn’t really with any of them, anymore. Captains just sneak off and let themselves die without her permission. Without saying goodbye. Without letting her tell him that she forgave him. Without…well, they just died. So there was point in getting attached anymore.
Bob. This one could be called Captain Bob.

XO Feyna and CO Jiang, SD 11703.27 Joint Log
She had waited until the shift changed. There was no point in letting Soule and Stark and the others sense her discomfort. She used to be beyond that. Now she finds herself hiding until after they leave before doing what she needed to be done. Holding the PADD in her hand, she made her way to the door of the Captain's Ready Room, letting the chime ring to signal her presence. Jiang looked up from his screen towards the door. "Come in," he called out. “Captain.” She stepped into the room, showing confidence that she definitely didn’t feel, but that had never stopped her from faking it before. “I require your approval on some requests. Engineering have shown interest in, as the Chief put it ..” She looked down at the PADD in her hand “’Ripping the damn thing out and starting again'. I think maybe a revamp within protocols is allowable, but that big a request needs to be approved from the top level.” She gave him a small controlled smile as she held out the PADD for his thumbprint.
The Captain considered for a moment, not putting his hand out to stamp the padd, but taking it from her instead. "I'm not sure I follow." He glanced over the padd. "I was under the impression that a whole team of engineers gave the ship an overhaul at spacedock? What exactly aren't they happy with?" She shrugged a fraction. “It’s different to what they are used to.” She paused a second, collecting her thoughts and what she wanted to say before continuing. “I’ve learnt, through a little experience, that if engineering is set up early the way that works for them, they will be far more efficient in the future.” She looked at him squarely in the face. “I can reject the request, if you prefer, Sir.” "If they give a proper reason, I'll consider it, but I expect my crew to be a little more flexible and adaptive." He handed the padd back.
“Very well, Sir. I’ll let them know.” She wrapped her arms around the PADD, holding it close to her body. “Might I also recommend some kind of social event for the senior crew..”She winced internally, as she heard herself say the words. “so that the crew can get to know each other and their new crew. It might grease the wheels a little. Make them feel more like a cohesive team?”
"Like a... party?" He hadn't considered this. When he took command of the Kharv, the crew had known each other for years, and most of the Zorya's crew had served together on previous assignments. "Very well, I'll leave the arrangements to you, and of course I expect it to be held outside of duty hours." He paused again, then, "Crew morale is something I expect my first officer to have in mind. Unless you have something bizzare in mind, feel free to organise these... social events... as and when you feel the crew require it." He hoped he wouldn't regret saying that. Jiang reached for his cup, realised it was empty, and walked over to the replicator. "Tieguanyin, hot. Anything for you, Commander?" “Raktajino, double sweet” She requested without even thinking. “I was thinking less party, more an informal setting for the senior crew to get to know their Captain and each other. A meet and greet. No one really knows who you are, Sir.” Including myself, she added, silently.
"Raktajino, double sweet," Jiang repeated to the replicator. He took the drink over to Feyna and gestured for her to take a seat. "Hmm, yes, well I suppose that is one of the down sides of inheriting a crew that has mostly served together in the past. I'm told it balances out, however, by the efficiency in which they work." He moved back around to his desk, sat down and took a sip of his drink. "Fine, go ahead, but in general I prefer to get to know a crew by the challenges they overcome while in the line of duty." He considered Feyna for a moment. She looked tense, uncomfortable, just as Jiang had noticed on the bridge when he first met her. Again, he decided not to prod. Not yet. He'd give her some time to settle in, see how things played out. She was clearly hesitant about something, probably her own capabilities. Not the best first impression, he thought, crew needed confident leaders, but she had a good record and the few people he'd spoken to about her seemed to think highly of her. She could feel him assessing, no, judging her with his glance, and she did her best not to flinch. A commanding officer was allowed to do that. Hell, she had done that. To the various ships she had served upon since the Hyperion, to Soule! Relax, she told herself, relax. It’ll be over soon, and then you can hide away in obscurity. He decided to move the conversation along. There was no point in delaying things, they may as well get right down to business, as Feyna seemed to prefer at the moment as well. "There are 461 crew members currently on board. My last ship had an average of 80." He paused momentarily. "I've been considering ways to get the crew as efficient as possible as quickly as possible, considering the immediate threat of the 'True' Federation. I'd like the shift rotations changed up for a while, a temporary measure, 4 shifts a day instead of the current 3." Jo nodded in agreement to the plan. “And shall we keep the shifts with the same people, or generate a movement of personnel, so that people don’t become so accustomed to certain teams that they struggle to work with others?” She tilted her head slightly to the side. “Actually Sir, I’ll leave that plan for a later date, to shake things up during a quiet period once things are established”. She gave him a rueful smile. “Assuming we ever get a quiet period.” Jiang gave a nod of agreement, "This is probably it, until we rendezvous with the Salk. Right... anything else on the agenda, Commander?" The smile still lingering on her face, she unwrapped her arms from around herself, realising the defensiveness of the position. “In all honesty Captain, I felt I needed to start a form of conversation with you, to assist our communication as a command group. The rest of this” She gestured to the PADD in one hand. “was pretext.”
The Captain sat back in his chair, watching her release the tension she'd been holding. About time. "Well, for starters I expect you to be open with me. There is no need for pretext, or skirting around issues. I want your opinion and thoughts, Commander, that's why you're here." He took another sip of his tea. She dropped the PADD on the desk between them, and picked up the sweet rich drink in front of her. She grimaced as she took a sip. Sugar and caffeine: Why did she do it to herself? She ignored her own question and instead focused on her new boss and decided that she was going to have to do it sooner or later, so she might as well do it now.
“ Captain, If you look at my recent history, from the last few years, you’ll note I haven’t been stationed anywhere for longer than a few months at a time. I was a troubleshooter officer, a gap-filler when someone had been lost and the position was waiting to be filled. I had assumed that was the case here as well, to be your XO until the person that was truly desired became available. I had assumed that until I saw the crew roster. I had been purposely avoiding serving with familiar crew, Captain.” She took another long draught of her coffee, using it as a physical shield between them. “ I feel as though I, I let them down by not saving everyone. By not successfully completing my mission. I am not comfortable serving with them. I am not the person they remember. But I am also a Starfleet officer. And I will perform my duties. And I will make it work. And, whilst I’m being honest, I will also tell you that, as my Captain, you are likely to be the only person I will be this open to, because you require it. It is not in my nature to show my true face to the universe.” Her mouth was dry by the end of her short monologue, and she lifted the mug again. "There's an old Chinese proverb that says it is easy to find a thousand soldiers, but it is hard to find one General. I didn't pick you at random. I had to read a lot of records and profiles and cover letters and recommendation letters. And I assure you, I hate paperwork. It isn't always easy to find good leaders, but I am confident I've made the right choice. I hope you'll come to that same conclusion soon and feel comfortable here, confident in your abilities." He went to take a sip of his drink, realised the cup was empty, and put it back down again. When he resumed speaking, his voice was warmer, less formal. "It is scary getting close to people in Starfleet. I've also learnt that lesson, Joanne. I've read your record, I know about the Hyperion... it's hard losing people, and more so when you feel responsible. It can destroy you. But that's also one reason I chose you for this assignment. You've been there. You'd had to make decisions, difficult decisions that didn't have the perfect outcome. But you made those calls when they had to be made, and the right calls at that. And look around. The crew you've served with in the past seem happy to see you again, and everyone you've ever known and lost knew the stakes and chose to be there, just as you do. The only person who feels uncomfortable is you. The people who stay around through those events are the ones you call family. It's up to you to be a part of that family, the family we're building here on the Zorya. I hope you'll stick around this time." He shook his head slightly, never too comfortable having these kind of talks. "Besides, I don't want to have to do all that paperwork of finding a new Executive Officer again."
She gave Jiang a small laugh. “Nothing wrong with a good proverb, Sir.” She stood from her seat to head to the replicator, and ordered another Tieguanyin. As she handed him the hot beverage she replied with a genuine smile. “And I wouldn’t wish more paperwork on anyone.” as she picked up her PADD with her free hand.
"An Executive Officer that brings me drinks... I could get used to this."

“So the Gorn were going to take advantage of the situation and try to reclaim territory? That’s what happens when a civil war takes place. Third parties try and grab what they can whilst the others are distracted. In some respects, it is sort of admirable. In a sleazy underhanded way. They saw an advantage, and they are taking it. A ballsy move.” Jo looked up from the console on her office desk, having been talking to the computer as she worked on all the schedules and reports and asssessments that Jiang had been diverting her way. He hadn’t been lying about disliking paperwork. “If this was a literary study, I would have been interested enough to keep reading, to find out their next move. But this is reality, and it is yet another wrinkle in our mission. Save a sickly planet. Save the federation. Stay alive.” She paused again, midway through adding the extra shift various department rotas. “Computer, end log. Assign as personal log, stardate 11704.03.” She sighed a little at the end of it, seeing another document suddenly appear for her attention. “And computer, set an alarm for 30 minutes. The Captain will want me back on the bridge.”

Stardate 11707.10
She wasn't on form. She had missed questions from the Captain, with him being right next to her. She had missed vital points. She had missed...her.
Jo gave herself a small smile, not knowing if the Rome of her memory would berate her or smirk at her. Probably smirk, now that the green skinned insane temptress was back. The Orion terrorist, she told herself. The Orion terrorist that worked with Dixon. As Feyna told herself that, the smile disappeared with no trace it had ever existed.
"Why the hell is she back?" She said aloud on the bridge, not expecting any answer.

Stardate 11707.24
Having the Zorya use QSD wasn't quite the experience I expected it to be. In fact, it was quite the anticlimax. Though I suppose that's what you would want of a fast moving subtle transporting device. Yet, I still expected more. I felt quite underwhelmed. That is probably a good thing, considering the work to be done at the starbase before we head onto DS9. It's been many years since I was last there. I suspect that too will be underwhelming. The same place, with mostly the same crew, but still not the same. But stepping forward is the way to go. Head to DS9, follow orders, be a shining example in a murky time. Yes....time to shine.

Log Stardate 11709.11
Jo sat in the command circle next to Jiang. He had called her over specifically but not to share information or request a task. Just to get her to move. She tapped her fingers lightly on the arm of the chair. He had called her over to move her away from the OPS station. Jo sighed inaudibly. Her subtlety needs working on.
The surge of anger she felt at herself remained contained, not showing on her face. She had made a mistake. It wasn't her first, and it wouldn't be her last, but it was something that she used to pride herself on. That anger can be used. It made her feel alive, like she was almost herself again.
She sat up straighter. Maybe anger, even at herself, is a good thing right now with the potential of battle against the Jem H'dar. The thought of battle. Maybe, at the end of shift, someone would fancy some training on the holodeck. Sparring with pretend opponents can only go so far....

Log Stardate 11709.25
The timelines they had decided on meant nothing, not in reality. It was great to have a theoretical plan, in fact, Joanne thought it was the right plan of action, but she also knew that things very rarely went to the schedule that Starfleet Command staff set for them. Jo moved from her spot in the Transporter room as she waited for the chief, and began pacing the short empty space in front of it. Their presence was not helping things. It may be seeming to have little impact in the immediate vicinity, but who knows what the wide reaching repercussions will be? Will the other faction see this as starfleet aligning themselves, especially considering we haven't? Have we made another enemy already? We already have more than our fair share. But how do we extricate ourselves without making these guys our enemy too. Maybe this 'feast' with the natives will help. Maybe we will just sink in deeper. No way of knowing until we get in there. She gave a quiet sigh, and moved back to the pad, giving the officer behind the console a tired smile.

She lounged there, watching the medical staff scurrying around like ants in a farm. Lazily, only her eyes moved, as they tended and cared and murmured their way from one patient to another. She knew, somewhere in the back, were Ethan and Rojer. She was supposed to be meeting up with them later, but she didn’t have the inclination to move. It was peaceful where she was, the scuffling of the shoes, the swishing of the uniforms, the quiet beeping of various equipment. These were the healers, and she was going to let them heal her soul. Well, a little bit at least. She knew the peace she felt inside wouldn’t last, not with the spikes of thoughts that kept trying to force their way to the front of her mind. If they survived, who else might have? No, she told herself. That would be greedy. Only one miracle at a time. And this miracle brought her a shining knight and a golden Lion. Wouldn’t it be nice if she could also bring back the Commanding King? Not if he is dead, Dreamer. She crossed her arms under her chest, feeling the inhale and exhale of her own breath. Peace, peace….breathe in………..breath out…………….. She just leant there a few minutes, focussing on her breathing. The laziness she felt before had vanished. The beeping was standing to lend an edge of irritation. It was time to move. Pushing herself off the wall, she straightened, pulling her jacket back into place. The doors opened for her as she moved towards them, but she stopped just outside their sensor range on the other side, standing in the empty corridor. What to do with herself now? Trying not to think about what she was doing, she let herself meander, heading towards the officer’s mess. One or two drinks before having to talk about the last five years to the boys might just take the edge off.
